I bought Alpha 2 access last night because of this. I was going to wait, but decided to donate the extra money due to their heavy handed approach to cheaters.
I'm so glad they're backing up their words with action and banning these people. This should serve as a strong warning to any players thinking about cheating, which would ruin the game.
I do not know all of the factors surrounding every individuals' case of alleged and/or definite exploitation(s) in this matter (amount of/hand in the involvement, how much of the involvement was intentional and/or participated in knowingly, nor how so etc. etc.). If anyone did get reprimanded and/or punished while also possessing degrees of ignorance to their part in and/or of the very existence (etc.) of the matter I may to a degree feel bad for them. That being said, I don't know whether or not any of that has happened. Assuming there hasn't been any, or only to a small degree (all parties involved are capable of fallibility etc. as all human beings are capable of, have, and will make mistakes), my faith in/respect of Intrepid's principles (that I'm learning more about through Intrepid's responses to some matters like this) has grown. Thank you for posting, excellent points discussed/considered relating to the matter/conversations I think😄
@@danceplaylist3481 yeah the way it's worded it *looks* like they avoided the players that tested the dupe and didn't use it...and only got the ones that abused it. If that's the case then I don't feel bad. If their system caught some other people then yes absolutely agreed
Unfortunately, deleting the characters doesn't really do anything. If someone is willing to exploit this hardcore in an Alpha, then they have no interest in the game being successful. The accounts and the CC's that paid for them shoulda been blacklisted and thrown out. Letting these players stick around is a huge mistake, and they'll pop up again. A huge missed opportunity for AoC.
I think its a smart way to see if there are any hidden bugs during the alpha. These people will probably do it again. If they do exploit again then it will be found since they propbably have their accounts flagged during the whole alpha and will keep an eye on them. It will also show if someone was doing something stupid and learned, or if they will give into a bug again. It will also set them up to show people what happens to repeat offenders during the alpha.
@@HT-jj5sx I get that but at the same time these accounts are now permanently flagged. Any suspicious activity going forward will be treated more harshly and they'll have it coming
@@HT-jj5sx Don't get me wrong I hate cheaters and people who exploit as someone who is in alpha 2 currently (I'm having a blast). I also do think they deserve to get banned, but I think Intrepid can use these people to test how to deal with bad actors in an enviroment where if something does go wrong its not ruining the experiance on post launch servers. It will let them follow and see what these bad actors try to do to get around there systems in place to track bad actors. These people are now their own "testing group" that Intrepid can use for collecting data around bad actors.

We all know exploiting is bad, and we all know that games are better off without selfish exploiting scumbags. I think it's pretty simple.
Kinda grateful to all the people who are trying exploits. Allows for implementing and tesring anti-exploit systems during development. Edit: okay, so it's bad if it gets in the way of the testing focus of the devs
I think deletion of characters is appropiate for a first offense to show that they arent messing around, Id be dissapointed though if there arent permabans for repeat offenders.
It was said, since A1, that they monitor and tack ALL TRANSACTIONS on the servers. They are being very generous here. But know, if you duped more than once and *did not report it*, your account is Flagged Forever. Second time doing *anything wrong and not reporting it*, you are likely going to be perma-banned. There will not be any appeals. LOL
Most lame-braned response someone in discord had. "People who reported it still got punished" ... yeah but did they continue to do it after they report it? Recognizing it is an exploit means _not continuing to do the thing after you let the devs know_ .
Ignorant opponion here: I don't think these players should be banned. By all means take away their stuff, find ways to revert the changes, and reset their characters. I get that it makes it harder to test things, and fix things, but it's better to learn to struggle during the alpha then when people do this stuff for real during the live release. Then absolutely ban them during the live release if they do stuff like that
I agree. They didn’t get banned though. Some people lost gold and some people had characters deleted. Removing the stuff isn’t good enough because people were ganking using these items and leveling.
@TheCopiumClinic yeah I don't like the part about them directly hurting other players. Them financially or level wise outpacing other players I'm less concerned about because there are always going to be players that are higher level and more wealthy than others. But yeah give them level 3 corruption for the next 2 months.
Some people have too much time on their hands from Ddos attack to dupping items in an Alpha 2 video game. Maybe they should get a job or another hobby in life.
