Welcome to the Battle of Tarawa, one of the most iconic battles in the Pacific during WW2! United States Marines are about to assault heavily fortified Japanese defenses on the Tarawa atoll. This particular beach invasion and amphibious landing uses the Pacific mod for Men of War Assault Squad 2 - Ігри

Tarawa is definitely one of the most noteworthy and bloody battles of the war, but whenever I mention it to most people, they reply: "Tar-a-what-now?", "Tara, who?" In all likelihood, I had family who fought there with the 2nd Marines (or at least stepped onto the island), but my family did not bother to ask them about it--neither would they probably have wanted to say much about it.

Same here! That first mission threw me off as it was my first MOH game.
Now I'm using Dev console commands (mostly just God mode: Dog) to get through cause good gosh it is hard to see them most of the time! But they can see you! And it's way more fun now! Feels like Doom almost going around, blowing foes away with a shotgun and bayonetting them.
The Higgins boats were used in the battle. They miscalculated the tide and the Higgins got stuck on the reef. So the Marines had to wade 100+ yards are were just massacred. The high command actually thought they were going to lose this battle. The water buffaloes were the only ones to clear the reef and make it decently there to the beach but started to get picked off by artillery. The saving grace was the marines lucky enough to land by that bridge who used it for cover to stage the attack. Very bloody and the first introduction to amphibious invasion to the Americans. It’s why the started to utilize Amtracs more in the next invasion

It's also the big reason for UDT's (aka SeAL) to come into their own as hydrographic recon for shore invasions

Battles had lulls, wouldn't worry too much about it getting a bit quiet from time to time.

6:30 Higgins boats were used on the first day of the battle but the problem was that because of the reef miles off shore the boats couldn't get over them forcing the Marines to disembark and walk through waist deep water to make it to shore.

Hey Diplex, I just Men of War: Assault Squad 2 and I was wondering how to use skirmish mode on singleplayer?
If you're wondering how to use the editor you have to select the GEM editor when you launch it or right click and launch it that way if you have it on steam. (also you can get mods on the workshop by just subscribing to them it's real simple starting out, and to turn the mods on you have to go into single player> options >mods and enable them..then launch the editor)
And if you mean the skirmish mode with AI then you need one of the DLC, can't remember which one, maybe Airborne?

@@joeschantz295 editor especially can keep you playing the game for countless hours, I have almost 2500 hours in the game and more than 99.9% are in the editor only.

COOL MISSION
Extending the shallow tide was a good idea. The marines had to cover about 500 yards in the surf due to the low tide.
Higgins were used as the main assault landing craft. Didn't have enough LVT (alligators) for the landing. The tide had not risen enough and the Higgins were stranded on the reef and the Marines had to wade some 600 yards onto the beach....bloodbath. In 76 Hours: 1,000 Marines K.I.A. 2,100 Wounded. The Japanese :4,700 KIA, less than 20 were captured.
As I remember from the book several destroyers ended up beaching themselves on sand bars and provided support throughout all 3 days until they ran out of main gun ammunition.

Hey diplex how do you "cut" maps? and what weather you use looks very nice, Love uur vidz keep up the good work
In the editor ,In f2 mode, click on clip, there will be one preset called auto, so u can change it or create a new one by right clicking below auto and adding a new one. Then to change the map clip first tick on the checkbox which says show map borders. Then some coloured lines will appear then u have to drag those line as far as u want the map. Then after doing it right click on the same preset u selected and set for all players.That will cut the map.

I wish someone would come up with a mod to fix the leaning over death animation, the one where a soldier dies hanging over the top of a trench, so that the body stays there leaning against the wall and not hanging in mid air.
Higgins boats were used in the first waves my uncle was in the navy coxswain of one.He suffered Ptsd to the day he died.

I was wondering if you could do a quick video on how to get planes and helicopters to fly and how to set them up for men of war, I have been looking all over but none of the videos have worked for me and I couldn't find anything on helicopters

Marines on Tarawa had camouflage. Of course it wasn't everyone but there are photos of some Marines wear full uniforms and some only certain uniform pieces with the camouflage. It was like that for most of WW2 supply lines were messy.
Hey Diplex. I've been playing a lot of call to arms and dont know much about the mod community but I would love to see some first person action from both sides. Give it a new look at the battle

Bro i need a mod list for the updated gore, graphics, voicelines, sounds, models you name it.
I thought the majority of Marines there were camo ones. I know there were a lot of regulars, I’ve seen pictures, but the camo ones played a big deal also. That was the only time beach-side was used.

This was not taken from any COD or whatever other shooter game. I never even played any of those games, and the map was certainly not based off of the layout of the map in MOH.
