I was always impressed by Armello. Every minor system in that game meshes and feeds into every other system in such a way that you actually feel that the sum of all the systems create a brand new "thing" that is cohesive and "living"--as all the best and well-designed board games do. I can see shades of that in this game as well.
As I write this, a day after release, there are currently zero channels on Twitch streaming this, and only 500 people playing on Steam. Seems to me they could have done better marketing for this game. I bought it on Das’ recommendation and I like it.
There are a number of sponsored youtube vids for the game if you search on youtube you should find quite a bit
Marketing is a real issue, I follow a dozen genres closely and yet 4 months later I'm hearing about it for the first time

I was gonna pass on this game since I own the original and I prefer the aesthetic in the old one, but this does look very good actually. Think I'll be grabbing a copy when it releases later today, thanks Das!

You should have gone after the Meketrix Seal. That Infernal Resonance adding half of a legion's Infernal damage rating would have meant that The Blood of Astaroth would gain an additional 2 points to both ranged and melee damage, leading to a total of 5 and 11 respectively, perfect for mitigating the ranged damage for attacking the Monument of Tyrants, and for taking it over the course of a few turns.
Plus if you had also moved your legion so that is was adjacent to both the Monument of Tyrants, and the face in the Sand, your legion would heal the one point of damage it would take from attacking the Monument!

I remember Diplomacy from Avalon Hill's version. A shame that company was bought out by Hasbro.

The art is quite amazing
It's pretty unique for a game. It's not really a 4x. It's more of a diplomacy game, plotting and scheming how to get yourself to the top. There are many different ways you can achieve this.
omg i forgot about this game. didn't it come out a lot longer ago than 2009? I had no one to even play with back then.
I don't think they limit order slots to 3 - at least in the beta I got up to 5 once
Yes you get an extra action for every 4 power levels. I'm not sure why Das didn't do it in this playthrough. Its a really powerful thing to have access to.

I doubt this will be the game of the year TBH. It leans more towards a board game then anything resembling a grand strategy game. I've only got 6 hours in the game, i tried to like it but its not my thing. The matches take way too long to complete, hours and hours. I think a lot of players will leave if halfway the game its clear they wont win.
Ok, am I understanding correctly that battle has no RNG? It's all math? That is a little disappointing for us. We like when you at least have a chance against a stronger looking opponent. No action or suspense, just all or nothing?
The games focus is on diplomacy and the "donkey space" produced when you know hypothetical outcomes
I owned the first version of Solium Infernum, more than 25 years ago. It was pretty good. THIS game is vastly overpriced..all it has is newer graphics.
I played original and demo and playtest as well much different of a game. I would pay more if it was priced higher. Try u won't be disappointed
Even if they just released the first game with asynchornous multiplayer it would be worth it, but this game has a lot going for it.
That's disingenuous, especially since they kept Vic Davis' design in place since it was genius.
They've done the backend stuff to get this working as a proper mp game, rather than the play by email of the original.
Updated UI, graphics and audio are not cheap and good on the devs for doing the heavy lifting here.
