- The University of Illinois College of Medicine celebrated Match Day on March 17, matching medical students with residencies at hospitals and institutions across the Unites States. Match Day is a coordinated national event in which students are notified of their placement in a residency program, where they will receive anywhere from three to seven years of specialty training following their graduation from medical school. Of the 276 College of Medicine students placed in residencies, 166 were from the Chicago campus, 54 from Peoria and 56 from Rockford.
At the Match Day event in Chicago, Dr. Robert Barish, UIC vice chancellor for health affairs, emphasized the significance of the event in 2023. “As the class most deeply impacted by the evolving environment of the COVID-19 pandemic, you've certainly learned about the important roles that physicians, researchers and health professionals play in helping to support our communities,” he said. “During this time, I am certain that each of you have learned and grown into your role as healthcare leaders for the future, and I hope that each of you will take this learning with you throughout your career.”
