For what it's worth when Liverpool signed Firmino based on advance data, espn pundits namely Burley and Moreno laughed at them. Their argument was if he was that good how come no one else signed him. But they praised United for signing Depay in the same window saying that's a future star because he looked very flashy and explosive compared to Firmino, especially after the first few games in which Firmino struggled. Well, we all know who had the better premier league career in the end. One of the reasons why Firmino struggled initially was because Rodgers couldn't find a place for him and preferred Benteke. But on the flip side, I did wonder why United signed him, given that they had already similar-ish profiles in Bruno and Mount. That money should have been spent on a left back or a veteran forward who could rotate with Hojlund and allow him to settle in. Signing two long term projects as strikers, both of whom had not shown genuine top level goal scoring form is puzzling. But then of course the guy who signed Zirkzee has been fired so it's impossible to know what the long term vision was. Maybe he wanted to sell Hojlund in the same way that Liverpool selling Benteke allowed Firmino to cement his position as Liverpool's main guy upfront. Our defenders even the reserved ones have dealt with EPL attackers like Haaland, Doku, De Bruyne, Saka, Harvertz etc fairly easily. As long as not give them much space, these guys pace or strength could do close to nothing except aimless shots or crosses. But against Zirkzee, it was totally another story. His performance vs Inter reminded me of the likes of a young Ibrahimovic, Mancini at Sampdoria/ Lazio, Firmino, Berbatov etc. Not the fastest player but highly intelligent and effective to draw defenders out of positions and create chaos against any top European side's defence. Of course United fans might not appreciate such attributes, as they will probably battle against the likes of Wolves , Everton or Ipwish etc to avoid relegation in next few years instead playing Champions League football,which top teams defence need a lot of more intelligence and finesse to break. As a football fan, what the fans did to him was absolutely shocking and brutal - especially considering the bare minimum time he has spent in this club which is in a turmoil of its own. fwiw im not a Man U fan, however, even when i did see some highlights of their games or chunks of matches - Zirkzee really looked slow. Yes he is young, but players never seem to add much pace or burst of acceleration if they dont have much to start off with. Our defenders even the reserved ones have dealt with EPL attackers like Haaland, Doku, De Bruyne, Saka, Harvertz etc fairly easily. As long as not give them much space, these guys pace or strength could do close to nothing except aimless shots or crosses. But against Zirkzee, it was totally another story. His performance vs Inter reminded me of the likes of a young Ibrahimovic, Mancini at Sampdoria/ Lazio, Firmino, Berbatov etc. Not the fastest player but highly intelligent and effective to draw defenders out of positions and create chaos against any top European side's defence. Of course United fans might not appreciate such attributes, as they will probably battle against the likes of Wolves , Everton or Ipwish etc to avoid relegation in next few years instead playing Champions League football,which top teams defence need a lot of more intelligence and finesse to break. fwiw im not a Man U fan, however, even when i did see some highlights of their games or chunks of matches - Zirkzee really looked slow. Yes he is young, but players never seem to add much pace or burst of acceleration if they dont have much to start off with. Maybe he looking promising in Serie A but it is a much slower league right?.

Man U has been playing so badly that a lot of these players, individually are probably too good for the team as seen by how well they start to play when they leave.
