When Sunny pushes nine-fingers out of the way, that look on her face makes me think she realizes that Sunny isn't limited by "do not hurt humans."

Episode 3 really kicked it for me. At the end I was so shocked, I saw suzie reaction to Hemmie or however you say her name enter her husbands funeral. Her face looked like she saw a ghost like a Oh shit, shit is about to hit the fan moment. I wonder if it's going down or if suzie can talk her out of what happened. She seems like a woman where you do what she says or bad things happen to you and suzie looking into her eyes and said no I wont let sunny be apart of this robot fighting made her mad. On top of her pinky falling off and getting stomped on. I love this show it's so wild and intriguing.

"Masa" rhymes with the Spanish "casa". "Hime" is pronounced "Hih-may". "Noriko" has the syllable stress on the first syllable, although the syllable stress is more even in Japanese than in English. The missing finger is an indication of yakuza membership, specifically payment for some failure in yakuza business or society. The mother-in-law is almost certainly tied up with the yakuza somehow. (I haven't read the book.) Thank you for the great reviews!

I've never been an anime fan. But btwn Shogun, Tokyo Vice and now Sunny this year. I'm really digging learning more and more about Japanese culture and it's humor. Definitely not as dark as Korean humor. That mother in-law is a scene stealer. And her friends are no slouches either.
It's also interesting how the Yakuza or their equivalent seem to be an ever-present danger for the otherwise peaceful and very elegant everday Japanese citizen. No matter what era or genre of Japanese shows I've been running across.

The actor for the mother in law is smashing it! You can tell that her Japanese is native. The actress for Sunny is clearly not a native Japanese speaker, but she's also doing great.

I think the opening scene happened chronologically after the robot fights. She was getting her finger replaced from what we saw later. Also wasn’t the guy getting tortured the same guy from the sex shop?

I don't have a subscription to watch this show legitimately. So I'll just watch your spoiler reviews for the time being. Dark Matter ended up being very disappointing for me.
