@@londonlady227 We were talking about Betty in real life. She and the character shared their first name, hence the confusion. Betty Driver had been a successful singer before turning to acting. She was married only once, to a manipulative womaniser who squandered what was left of her earnings after her mother had squandered the rest. She divorced him in 1960 and had to borrow money from her sister to return home from South Africa where her husband had persuaded her to emigrate.
@@gilgameshofuruk4060 I realize that. And I was taking about the character. You forgot to mention about the actress that she was also a pub landlady....
Blooming heck, only Emily Bishop could break a window on someone elses' property and come out of it, maintaining she is the injured party as it was her actions which became corrupted due to the faults of others- Emily Bishop- who can do no wrong and will never be faulted, but would be the first to take up offence when it comes to others wrongdoing her.
Have to agree about Emily. Making out it was all Len’s fault-and that bit when she said about the badness of writing poison pen letters ( like she did to Ken about Val and Ray-even though nothing was really happening except they were friends! ) Wonder what Val’d say if she was still there and got wind of this...
I never liked characters like Emily and Mavis. I found them both prim and proper "clutch the pearls" kind of women who were far more annoying than amusing. The male equivalent would be Norris. And only Emily could commit an act of vandalism and then act like she's the victim in all of this? - What a foolish delusional woman.
He must have picked up some tips here as he was also a used car salesman in "Open all hours". He was in loads if things, even Cagney and Lacey, MASH and Magnum PI. He was also one of the villains in the final episode of The Avengers.
Don't quite get how the Howard's sold their house to the Wormholds incl furniture (Jan 74) - only for Elsie to return in 1976 and chuck the Barlows (Ken and Janet) out . . .
Another engagement ring that we have never seen! You would think that a jeweler or someone would loan them engagement rings, plus pay them, to advertise their jewelry!
Love Betty Driver's voice, so much warmth and wisdom!
She had a lovely singing voice and started out as first a singer of novelty sings, later ballads.
And yet she could be very forceful and cold too. Especially when she remarried Billy, I think it was, couldn't show emotion too much to him.

She almost made it to Hollywood.
Brilliant, thank you - especially the marvellous Albert and Minnie scene.
Loved Emily. So prim and proper on the surface, but a right rebel underneath. 😉
Betty’s lovely, but she says I mean a lot lol. Love how she tuts, rolls her eyes and sighs about the brick through the window incident lol.
Classic Betty.

@@alexanderjones9572 Poison pen letters are anonymous, Emily signed the letter she wrote Ken. Not that I agree she should have written it at all mind.
Hypocritical characters really.
At 22:32 when Billy tells Draper to "do us all a favour and go and join" his motor are the kinds of things I would love to say to certain people.
And yet Billy sold him a chop shop vehicle....Draper had every right to be angry. Personally I would've called the police.

Hey, I hope you're not suggesting we live over'd brush!🤣
Poor Betty. The shock and pain must be devastating.
I remember this from first time around.
"You got the keys to that car you got scammed into buying"
"Ye"
"Give the keys and the paper work to me, a random grandma"
"Ok"

How does buggernation work compared to coronation street
