    You did it again! You are in my head LOL I actually bought two of these, I basically rescued them because they were falling apart. Like you said the leaves were just falling off worse than a donkey's tail. So I actually bought them maybe a month apart and I ended up potting them together in one very wide butt not so deep pot. So after they got strong they started growing a lot of offsets so I trimmed the longer branches, a couple of them. I noticed yesterday that they were taking so long to root up! Like a couple of them were starting to really get desiccated LOL but the original plants were pupping like crazy! I gave the cuttings a tug yesterday I even dug some of them up and they are finally starting to root so because they were so desiccated I did give them a little bit of water. But fingers crossed that they aren't rotting right now. I'm going to check them as soon as I have my coffee. But thank you for showing us the difference between the two different plants 😎 now I'm going to go see which one I have.

    Wow, all this time I thought I had the Clavatum but it’s definitely the Spathulifolium now that I’ve watched this video. Mine is more the blue- green coloured one. I’ve noticed that it definitely does not like lots of water as mine got mushy leaves recently with weekly watering so now I know to water it maybe every 2-3 weeks. Thanks so much Liz, really appreciate your videos. 🙏🏽

    So when potting up those freshly rooted cuttings, do you prick off the tiny rosettes with a chunk of stem first to try to get them rooted? Rooting powder and cactus/succulent soil ok for both? In the potting example you seemed to have waited a fee months longer for the babies to get larger.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому

      When taking cuttings or plucking leaves, I always leave the cuttings to dry off(callous) w/o nothing. The leaves of sedum clavatum will take a while to germinate. Their growth is very much depending on the weather.

    • @JulieMikalson
      @JulieMikalson 3 роки тому

      I know about letting fresh cuttings heal over/ dry before sticking - and waiting at least a couple weeks for succulent leaves - my Wn is abt the TINY rosette appearing BELOW the new roots - as pictured early in the Vid. Did u just leave that one flat to develop roots for each baby? I have some forming rosettes at leaf tips
      ...i assume you don't cut them off unless clear roots at each site the leaf is feeding? Misting daily and getting faster results than i expected! TYVM for the Vids. I spent a couple hundred on plants, and wanna do weird details right!

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  4 роки тому

      Hi Farah, I don't use any fungicide since I only had one encounter with powdery mildew when we had too much rain. It was a tray of plants that has grown and did not have space between the plants. All I did was remove some plants in between giving them space and took it out of the rain for a few days. All the plants are now doing fine and have never encountered that again. Sorry that I can't help you with that. Cheers

      Never had a sedum clavatum rot on me yet but I've seen the pinkish red inside the stem on old plants. Just keep it air dry and wait for the roots to form. They will continue to grow and have pups even when not planted in soil.

    • @lyeonjin_

    @microneee 3 роки тому +2

    dear Liz, your Sedums are all Clavatums! I'd love to send you Spathulifolium (but not sure it's allowed to send plants from Europe to Australia), so you would see the huge difference between these species' exterior. S. Spathulifolium is more carpet-like plant and has way smaller rosettes than Clavatums. Even though S. Spathulifolium has four subspecies - no one looks like S. Clavatum. Mine is ssp. pruinosum 'Purpureum', you can check the pictures and descriptions here: www.crassulaceae.ch/de/artikel?akID=182&aaID=2&aiID=S&aID=2927
    Have a wonderful day!

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому +3

      Thank you sooo much for this info Masha. You are absolutely correct. My Spathulifoliums are growing and looking more and more like Clavatum. They still don't have any scents and maybe that comes with age.
      I do have the SPATHULIFOLIUM ssp. PRUINOSUM but it has a different label/name. Thanks for the kind offer.
      I believe that these nurseries who sells these mislabeled plants do so because they don't want to pay for the PBR to sell these plants under the correct ID and we poor succulent addicts/collectors have to buy the same plants twice or thrice with different names. Thank you once again and wishing you all the very best.

    • @microneee
      @microneee 3 роки тому +1

      @@GrowingSucculentswithLizK dear Liz, here in Europe we have a different problem with names: almost every nursery orders dutch succulents with the name "succulent mix", and then sell them with the same name, which is in fact no name at all :) And we collectors/addicts have to dig deep to understand what we've just bought. I, personally, pay a lot of attention to correct names, because, as a passionate researcher, behind the plants I see the people who discovered them or hybridized. Most of them have passed away, but they left us (both people and science) a generous legacy, an immense gift, that I take with sincere care and respect. Every plant we have has a story, and these stories are the part of my life now. I don't know why and how it happened, but there's no way I can have a "succulent mix" in my collection :))
      I wish you all the best and thank you for sharing your passion ❤️

    • @debtfreecharts
      @debtfreecharts 3 роки тому +1

      Agreed Marsha, Sedum "Cape Blanco" is a tiny rosette compared to Clavatum, more on the scale of Sedum dasphyllum, about 1.5-2cm across for the largest rosettes, nothing at all like Sedum Clavatum whose rosettes are 3-4cm across. Looks like that nursery has confused the Australian succulent market by mislabeling it.

    Hi Liz. I hope you could read this. I have been trying to grow sedum clavatum for like 5 times now. Sadly, most didn't survive. The one I am growing right now is still thriving but its leaves are showing with burst cells inside. Very much like what happened to the first 4 plants that I had. Much like mushy but I have not watered it. I live in Singapore and my plants are all growing under grow light since my place has no access to direct sunlight. Do you have any tips on how to prevent the leaves from having burst cells?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому

      I have a few sedum clavatum that was taken as cuttings a year ago. I still haven't planted them and they are basically living on air. They have flowered and even grown pups. I find they don't need that much water. I often say that water heavy but less. That means let the soil dry in between watering and soak the pot overnight when you do need to water. Best of luck.

    I received some Sedum Clavatum in the mail and the bottom third (5 cm or so) was so wilted the leaves fell off when touched. Now they look like I'm umbrellas. Should I buy the whole stem or just the roots? Or something else. Looks awful.

      Sedum clavatum cuttings can survive without being planted for a long time. But once they are planted, they basically grow prolifically on their own.

    Sedums are the only succulent I can't keep alive! I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  4 роки тому

      Maybe too much watering at the wrong time? They have a dormancy period and if kept wet at this time can lead to rot.

    Why do my leaves from this succulent never produce babies and just go soggy or shrivel like prunes and die?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому

      The leaves I find have to be pluck at the right time(autumn) to grow. They go dormant when the temperature is high. Best to propagate from cuttings.

      Doesn't matter which one you get, they are both equally beautiful plants. Best bet also is to buy mature plants. At least you can see what you're getting. Good luck.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  2 роки тому

      I use SEAMUNGUS by Neutrog in my soil mix, Seaweed liquid fertilizer for watering plus many others depending on the plants and how I want the plants to grow.
