my GF was born in the US. just as she was about to start going to elementary school there was a shooting in the same county she was in. her parents then immediately moved her here to the UK. it's nice to know that some people wont gamble with these kinds of what-if's.
Micheal Ryan.. The start of the end.. I used to be a junior gun club member, as a junior I couldn't own my own guns but could use other members at the club or the club's own stock.. Thanks to the twat in Scotland that rampaged in Dunblaine me and millions of others lost a recreational pastime in a safe environment. It's not the gun, it's the human holding it yet it's always the gun that's blamed...!!! No disrespect to anyone who's lost a loved one to some knobhead with a gun. But it's the knobhead you should be blaming.!!!
Micheal Ryan... I use to be a junior gun club member, as a junior gun club member I couldn't own my own guns, but could use other members guns, or the club's own stock. And all because of two twats millions of others lost a recreational pastime in a safe environment, it's not the gun that's the problem, it's the human holding it.!!! Guns don't kill people, human's do..!!!! Just the same as knives don't kill, it's always some human holding it.!!!
Most Americans care more about guns than children it makes me sick and I used to love Charlton Hestons movies until he said what he said I will never watch another movie with him in Guns should only be held by the army and police and farmers they are not toys Thanks for reacting to this Love from the UK
Believe it or not we love our children and believe we should be able to protect them! There are many things we protect our children from wild animals, people, government, etc! Our children follow the laws and have never used a weapon to harm anything other than a threat (animal) or food! That’s why my family as an American believes we all have the right to bare arms!!
The irony with your statement is that gun people typically aren't pro abortion. Abortion is killing the innocent primarily for reasons of convenience - not medical need. There are far more abortions carried out for reasons of convenience than criminal uses of firearms.
Same in New Zealand. After the Christchurch mosque shooting where an Australian white nationalist, Brenton Tarrant, on 15 March 2019, attacked the Al Noor Mosque in Riccarton, at 1:40 p.m. and almost immediately afterwards at the Linwood Islamic Centre at 1:52 p.m. Altogether, 51 people were killed and 89 others were injured; including 40 by gunfire from Tarrant's AR 15 style rifle. On the day of the attack, the Prime Minister, Jacinta Ardern, announced that gun laws would change. The Arms (Prohibited Firearms, Magazines, and Parts) Amendment Act 2019 was passed on April 10 and was made law by the end of the week. All legally owned semi automatic rifles had to be surrendered under a buy back scheme. (with the exception of .22 rimfire rifles with a magazine of 10 rounds or less.) By 21 December that year 56,250 firearms had been collected by police.
It will be very difficult now in the USA ,due to the general culture being that of accepting handguns for the general public Even then in the UK guns were not a part of the ordinary life of the general public. I remember being asked what my view was at that time ,by someone who was used to guns and owned them. I replied " How one feels depends on which end of the gun you are and I never will be on the trigger end".
American culture is completely different than British Culture! I guess we can really thank the Britain for that difference! The following has absolutely nothing to do with school shooting or mass murder in general! It’s just a little fun to brighten a sad topic but is completely true and was during a war! The Brits learned fairly quickly that their High Vis Red Coats were the stupidest thing their Kingdom ever had the wear!! I mean, most days I’d bet on the 700 highly trained soldiers against 77 farmers! Those 77 farmers are what made the colonies…The United States of America! With one shot heard around the world in 1776, those 700 soldiers with High Vis Red Coats retreated and every American from the bridge in Concord to Boston was picking them off one by one from the tree line (well except Samuel Whittemore, who fought for the British for 20+ years just for the British to tax stamps, so now not only did he fight the French for the British but now they were going to charge him money for doing it! Then they tried to tax tea which went over as the biggest success in history 🙄 but then they tried to march to Concord to take out all of what the Americans had worked so hard for…nah! At this point he’s 78 years old and he saw the red coats coming and when the 500, that were left, were right in front of him he stepped out took out 1 redcoat with his musket, pulled his fancy French dueling pistols he got fighting for the British took out 2 more redcoats & then pulled his fancy French sword he got while fighting for the British, took out several more redcoats before he was shot in the head, stabbed 6-13 times, & hit in the head with the butt of a rifle and left for dead! However, the townspeople saw his body moving after 4 hours and took him to the town doctor who had no clue what to do! He did his best and sent him home! Samuel Whittemore lived another 18 years before passing away at the age 96 with 185 living descendants!) That’s how most Americans I know are! They will befriend you, help you, be loyal to you, however if you turn on them, prove to be dangerous or manipulative we’re not going to trust you!!! So, I think I’d still take those 77 farmers today!
I was finishing my degree in education when it happened. Never thought before that I could be expected to protect pupils at primary school from guns. All schools now have locked fences around their grounds and restricted access procedures. From Yorkshire
I think it helped that we haven't got a written constitution. Things change, progress can be good and bad so it's easier to be more flexible with laws. Imho
My Dad put it as 'Well, amend it, then, if it's an amendment' when talking about the 2nd amendment to an American, there's no reason why a 3rd amendment, or the 2nd amendment being altered, couldn't happen.
I’ll never forget dunblane, I was no where near there but I was 10 years old, and I think it was the first time empathy was instilled into me, my friends mother was an absolute saint, she refused any Mother’s Day gifts from her children , she said because those mothers wouldn’t get a card so she didn’t want one, she wanted us all to write a card to send up to them… at 10 I went home and cried my little eyes out, without realising it, she gave me a conscience that day!!! If not for that I might not have gave a crap about peoples feelings as much as I do now… glad we don’t have guns in this country now, there is some absolute lunatics around …
Just so you know, there isnt an outright ban on guns in the uk as most people believe, its just alot harder to get a licence to have a gun. The licence is given by the police and they can even go to your doctor during the prcess to see of there is any medical reason not to allow you to own a gun
I had guns at this time i did go hunting. The next day i sold them all i did not want to be associated with guns i was a hairdresser with my own business. I am a country man . But i was sickened with this mad man .
My dad was a hunter and he had a load of guns and he did the same well in fact he didn’t even sell them he went to the local police station and handed them over the next day my dad was a very strong minded person but seeing that on the news brought him to floods of tears
The irony with the argument that weapons are too easy to come by still doesn't mean that people's children can't be killed with legally obtained firearms in the U.K.. A ban on short barreled handguns doesn't affect people willing to use long barreled handguns or other long arms.

Dunblane wasn't the start of gun reform in the UK.
It started with the Firearms (Amendment)Act 1988 after the Hungerford massacre in '87.

What people don't understand is that even before Dunblane we still measured mass shootings over decades and not week by week like America.
The tennis star, Andy Murray went to Dunblane primary school and was there on that day.
