Fam! Several people have commented (some rudely) saying they feel this style is more AI (Allen Iverson) inspired than Ja Morant. For clarification, AI’s hair was done with cornrows. At the time, they were called Fishbone braids! This style differs because it was made to mimic dreadlocks being put in barrel twists. Meaning no cornrows are in this style. Barrel twists are not new and I’ve seen many people with beautiful barrel twists in their locs. Also It was never stated that Ja Morant “invented” this style or anything. Yeah the style is fire. My only question is, I’ve heard that shine n jam leaves a lot of buildup. Was that not a concern doing his hair? And speaking from someone with locs , the best way to do a barrel roll is if you wrap the twists around each other in opposite directions , so the ones you pull from the right you wrap around the middle in that direction and the left going in the opposite direction

Lol those things don’t last they’re just a way to retwist dreadlocks while keeping your hair outta the way. Next time he should just do fishbone cornrows they’ll last a lot longer and they’re much more secure.

I have a quick question. I want dreads but currently and doing 2 strand twists. I don’t want to let my 2 strand twists to loc up so I take them out. The way you twisted his hair, is that the way you get dreads but waiting for it to lock up?
This twist technique could be used to Loc your hair but I wouldn’t use this style since your parts would be permanently in this style. I would suggest using finger/comb coils or 2 strand twists to start your locs. I also would recommend having a Loctician or stylist start your locs so that are done correctly.
