I am watching your videos backwards since a few days and I laughed so much when I realized how you met Jeremiah Bishop, the legend who is now inviting you to his events and personal projects. What a story!
hilarious that ya had no idea who Jeremiah Bishop is. he ain't just some Canyon rep. dude is one of the top pro mountain bikers in the USA. he probably loaned you his personal bike. total stand up guy.
Piling on here. VC comes to Boston and borrows a bike last minute from one of the biggest names on the east coast. The insanity of that is a story by itself.
I'm 38yo, 5'11" and 280 pounds. Just got my first xc bike last month and I've been loving it. But after binge watching your channel for a few days, I'm starting to think what I really wanted is a gravel bike. Anyway. Thanks for making this channel and being an inspiration. I'm not about to turn 40 whilst overweight. And your videos give me so much motivation to eat well and put down some miles. Who knows, maybe someday I'll find myself riding next to ya. lol that would be so wild.
Good for you dude. I have an XC, gravel and fat bike. Time and a place for each! I’m 45, lost 33 lbs and feel better than I did when I was 35. Keep riding, brotha and enjoy it! Sign up for something crazy and then tell everyone about it. It’ll force you to train and hold yourself accountable!
You want the XC bike with improved gearing, alternate bars, and gravel tires. An XC bike is the most versatile bike you can buy. How do I know? I built a gravel bike and realized what I need is an XC bike with the above. 😂
This post is a year old. I've since fallen in love with my local mtb trails. I even hit a lot of the jumps. So my xc bike is just fine. I've stuck with the flat bars, even raised them just a tad when I got my air fork. Also got to take it on a bike camping trip through joshua tree two months ago. Great times. Kept up with my buddy, who has a gravel bike, just fine.@@chadwells7562
Got to love the Quėbecois speaking English at 21:50. Vermont is just across the border from Quėbec and growing up in the Cantons de l’Est, we always had at least a half of our long ride loop in Vermont! It’s an amazing cycling destination ❤️.
I've been watching VC Adventures videos and all the impossible routes over the past year. Digging through the older videos and I was thrilled to see the initial meeting between Tyler & Jeremy Bishop. It's interesting seeing that, knowing what that friendship would turn into years down the road!
OMG, I went for a ride a couple months ago and i wore the thinnest damned gloves i own, and it was 39 degrees, and your comments on thawing out your hands PERFECTLY described my experience. I ended up lying on the carpet in my house with my hands tucked into my shirt for about 10 minutes just PRAYING they would unthaw because they hurt soooo bad. When you said "I walked around... trying to get away from my hands because my hands hurt so much", I laughed because I know the feeling. Ouch ouch ouch! That was the perfect description. Thank you!
Omg I totally laughed out loud BY MYSELF. You are hilarious. When you walk in after the race. I’ve watched almost all your videos this week and as a casual biker I’ve totally enjoyed them. Keep them coming.
Dude, everything you talk about when describing warming your cold hands is what I deal with all the time riding here in Canada during the winter/early spring. It's such an awful throbbing pain, and it never gets easier. Props to you for finishing so high despite that.
Kind of late to this vid, but couldn't resist the urge to inform you that you were undercooled. The fact that you start to shiver after warming up confirms that. It's a well known phenomonom known among the swimmers that cross the English/Belgian canal. Great content as always!
"I wanted it to snow more" Hahahahahahaha. Welcome to the Northeast VC! We've got some epic races and weather up here. Great video! (and you borrowed a bike from THE Jeremiah Bishop. What a story!)
Tyler, love your videos. They are the only ones I really watch that often tell a story instead of teaching. I am from upstate NY not so far south of Canada. One trick we use is to wear nitrile gloves (those purple/blue ones they use in hospitals) under winter gloves. It gets gross (they fill with sweat), but it keeps you warm. Thanks for the great videos!
I was there it was a real fight! Also love the coffee shot, same situation waiting for the podium I was spilling coffee everywhere! Congrats on finishing!
That race was so bad, it was fun. I had the same problems with my hands. I used my right hand to pull the left shifter, and could not grip a water bottle. Very painful, but a great character builder. I already signed up for more punishment next year. Change for next year: waterproof gloves.
Congrats! I think you'll find that most "Gravel" races are not particularly technical They're mostly just hard. If they do get more technical, they morph from a gravel race into a long distance XC are which is great but then the flat bar bikes tend to dominate. Every once in a while, a new gravel grinder will figure it out the hard way and a bunch of dudes on hard tail XC bikes win and tons of grumpy old dudes on Moots gravel bikes complain. Good luck at DK!
Dude!! How have I NOT watched THIS vid before?!! AWESOME!! Of course, ALL your vids are fantastic. You're such a good story teller and so fun to watch. You are my absolute favorite UA-camr!! When I get an alert that you have a new vid up, I'm like, "YES!!"
Some of my winter riding is my favorite. Freezing but makes you feel like a badass! Used to love when the muscles in my eyes would go numb and couldn’t move them...and frozen hands are the ABSOLUTE WORST. No shame, I’ve cried dethawing my hands.
That hand de-thawing is called the “screaming barfies!!!” Bro... that was me in blue jacket and the Orange SuperX! Great riding. You should to The Overland. You’d love it. 🤘
I've been a long time subscriber and just did my first bike event (first non triathlon) it was a gravel ride in Vermont! I'm rewatching this video because you are definitely a big part of my gravel riding inspiration
I'm from Massachusetts, bruh, welcome to New England where if you don't like the weather wait a minute it will change *most likely not for the better 😂😂😂
My neck of the woods. A few hours from me in NY. My buddy Kevin Bouchard-Hall took 4th this year and won last year. Great racing out there VC ! Enjoyed the vlog !
Did a road ride like that once. Me & my riding buddy used to try to get in 25 miles at a 15-20mph pace a few times a week after work. One day, the skies just opened up and it didn't rain cats & dogs, but lions & wolves on us. I'm talking about pellets of water the size of grapes. It started after our first 6 mile loop. We stopped and said, whaddaya ya' wanna do? I said (expletive) it, let's keep goin'. He said, "yeah"? I said, hell yeah. He smiled, we clipped in and put in that work. I told him that if I was alone, I would've called it. He said the same thing, but we rode that ride out together, got in the full 25 miles for the day and went home feelin' like champs. That was our little epic ride. We didn't let each other down and every other ride has felt like a piece of cake compared to that one. When you ride with a good partner, it draws the best out of you. We fed off of each other.
Impressive coverage, I wish I had the clearance on my frame for real Gravel tires :) Congrats this is how I felt as a commuter during this winter, minus all the glory for finishing a race, the glory was for living to see an other day. We should never ride in the cold, it is so utter nonsense and you can yearn permanent damage on your joints. I feel for you.
You should check out the Rooted Vermont Gravel Race put on by Ted King and his wife Laura. 84 miles of roughly 75% gravel and 25% tarmac plus 2 sections of class 4 roads. 7800 feet of climbing. First week in August so the weather is beautiful. They also offer a 48 mile race which is what i did this year and it was awesome. 4300 feet of climbing. You should come next year and do a video on it. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
oddly, last year was much colder, which meant we stayed dry! but we had to ride through a lot more snow and mud than this year, wish I knew you were there, love your channel...take care...
Interesting that New England race got our russian word Распутица (rasputitsa) as its name. This means spring and autumn periods when rural dirt roads turn into mud. We have this very similar, and sometimes worse. Great video, thanks!
Bruhhhhh! AMazing story, congrats on Ras-poo-tit-sa! That painful feeling when you were thawing your hands is what I experience every time I ride in cold weather (45 degrees and lower). Thankful for indoor trainers!
Something I learned from cycling in Norway, always bring some nitrile gloves that are big enough to go over your gloves, they will save you butt in cold rain or harsh unexpected cold winds. Also, a toilet wax paper cover, is awesome on your chest to break the wind from chilling you, after you warm up, roll it up and put in in your pocket. Extremely light, and serve multiple uses. Like the toilet cover, it also serves as bib for eating messy pasta with frozen limbs.
Nice running into you in Vt.... funny, I consistently had to keep looking down to see where my numb hands were on my hoods to make sure I could actually use my brakes... fun time for sure! See you June 1st....
19:27 surely you mean 'thaw'. 'De-thaw' would mean you're re-freezing. Same at 19:47 That aside, it's a great video which I'm glad to be watching in the warmth!
On those harsh Canadian winter gravel rides, where less than -5deg Celsius (23 deg F) I'll ride with 'Hot Shot' hand warmers inside gloves and booties! Cold hands and feet = zero joy!
Hi Gortex mittens work great for me with super cold and wet. They make a lobster claw for more hand movement. You guys are tough congrats on a great race.
Brilliant effort, been there into that cold dark place in cyclocross.. great feeling after when in the car, with heater on full blast 🙏🙏🙏 I survived lol
Oh man, all about that solid glove choice. That and rainproof sleeves that you can tie down over the cuff of the glove. Glad Canyon came through for you though, that was super cool of them (and of course the guys at Clif who did their best to sort you out before that!) Shoulda put your velotoze on your hands!
Keep up the great vids,,, also you said you talked to Jeremiah Bishop Im assuming he was former Giant Factory racer great, if he's that one,, damm you should have gotten a signature.....

Sean Chisham Hell yeah!!!
Hot damn, I had no idea who he was.
I came here to say this! Jeremiah is a beast on the bike and is one heck of a great guy
Piling on here. VC comes to Boston and borrows a bike last minute from one of the biggest names on the east coast. The insanity of that is a story by itself.
Yup.. Mind blowing. LOL
Ghost baby! ;) Luv it. Such a ridiculous race! I also was just trying to survive hypothermia! Glad you enjoyed that Grail!
Dude.. The one time you can legally be a flannel lumber jack cyclist and you wear lycra.
I'm 38yo, 5'11" and 280 pounds. Just got my first xc bike last month and I've been loving it. But after binge watching your channel for a few days, I'm starting to think what I really wanted is a gravel bike.

Totally Hilarious! Walking to get away from my hands! Love that line.
my wife went into hysterics!
‘Running from the pain’ used to be a regular segment on Ridiculousness. Lol
Man, that line was so goood LMAO
“I’m gonna send myself into fucksville” 😆

Your perpetual north eastern US culture shock cracks me up. Big buildings and tons of people in NYC death basement in VT. I love it
"Uh.. Jeremiah Bishop? I believe is his name?.." DUDE! Jeremiah Bishop is legend!
what you experienced was a normal training week in new england !!!
15:28 Tyler complaining about how it’s colder than the white walkers, cuts to guy riding without knee warmers, lol. Strong work, looks fun.
I love all the "dude" and "bro" transports me back to the 80's. As in the decade VC was born
Cool race. Fun to see the start of you and Jeremiah's relationship!
Got to love the Quėbecois speaking English at 21:50. Vermont is just across the border from Quėbec and growing up in the Cantons de l’Est, we always had at least a half of our long ride loop in Vermont! It’s an amazing cycling destination ❤️.

What, no flannel shirt this time? And socks for gloves?
Ras-pu-ti-tsa, bro, is a Russian word, meaning the time when gravel roads become IMPASSABLE. Great video, great story! Thanks for sharing!!!

I'm re-watching this as I'm pondering registering for the 2023 ride! Awesome vid!
I would've moved that crib back while everyone was sleeping. 😂
imagine the reaction when they woke up and see the crib
"Walking away to escape my hands". Don't do drugs, kids!
I laughed so hard at that... because it's totally how it feels... you're so numb from the cold and your body doesn't feel like it's yours.
😆🤣
Going back in time and enjoying your earlier work. Made me laugh out loud as well as so enjoyable.
Great effort, difference between 26th and 1500th is that willingness to push beyond your limits, the cold, the pain.. Great effort
When people ask you what happened here, tell them the northeast remembers. Tell them winter came for House Vegan.
Omg I totally laughed out loud BY MYSELF. You are hilarious. When you walk in after the race. I’ve watched almost all your videos this week and as a casual biker I’ve totally enjoyed them. Keep them coming.

'I'm willing to cause permanent damage to my hands to stay with the group' 😂bloody amazing, I want to do a gravel race now
Killer job with this video man. Love your race review videos. Also the drone shots at 14:11.. epic!
*When the streets in your city are so damaged that everyday commute is a gravel race.*

Snow, rain, mud, wind - welcome to spring/fall racing in New England!
Your videos are always so well done, interesting, informative and a joy to watch. Thanks VC
Now you add gravel racing, doing it all! You ought to check out the gravel scene next time you are in Dallas 😉.
"I wanted it to snow more" Hahahahahahaha. Welcome to the Northeast VC! We've got some epic races and weather up here. Great video! (and you borrowed a bike from THE Jeremiah Bishop. What a story!)

Great story! Your cold hands - welcome to my world for every winter ride. I find the hands thawing out is worse than them being frozen 😂
That race was so bad, it was fun. I had the same problems with my hands. I used my right hand to pull the left shifter, and could not grip a water bottle. Very painful, but a great character builder. I already signed up for more punishment next year. Change for next year: waterproof gloves.
Glacier Gloves worked a charm, duct taped to arms. Classic spring race set-up out here in the east of N.Am.

My neck of the woods. A few hours from me in NY. My buddy Kevin Bouchard-Hall took 4th this year and won last year. Great racing out there VC ! Enjoyed the vlog !
Dude, you have a very funny way of telling stories. And that one with the haunted house, it was awesome! 😂
5 people told me to check out this video since I was the guy that nipped you there at the line haha, fun times!
Man...25th would have been so much cooler than 26th LOL. Great riding with you Mike.
There is no bad weather - only bad gear.

For some reason im always more excited when VC uploads a Riding video than a new episode of GOT. And i love GOT
Looking forward to see you on a Fixed Gear Bike Race too!
Great video, Reminds me of going to school in winter with cold hands, never run them under water, that is so painful.
Love the channel! Great story telling! Makes me want to ride!
Hej dude really like your videos... Started cycling 4 months ago loving your advices. Regards from Slovenia👏👏👏👋👋👋

Great video, love this kinda stuff. If your shivering uncontrollably then you are suffering from hypothermia.
bro your story telling skills are da bomb diggity. thank you for your videos.
19:27 surely you mean 'thaw'. 'De-thaw' would mean you're re-freezing. Same at 19:47

awesome video !! i really enjoy watching them from the other side of the pond! greetings from the Netherlands,......Jaspers home land haha
On those harsh Canadian winter gravel rides, where less than -5deg Celsius (23 deg F) I'll ride with 'Hot Shot' hand warmers inside gloves and booties! Cold hands and feet = zero joy!
Great video and that event/race was awesome.
You should come out to Barry Roubaix in MI next year, always a good time and always unknown conditions.
Very entertaining and funny man(winter in coming) lol. Great video!👍
Hi Gortex mittens work great for me with super cold and wet. They make a lobster claw for more hand movement. You guys are tough congrats on a great race.

Awesome looking race, and you're right, great story

Love how you guys think a 200 year old house is so old and creepy! Awesome vid as always VC!
These are really high quality videos for bike fanatics - 🙏 for the distraction in 🦠 times
🤙 keep the fire burning 🔥 🚴💦
So funny to see how you stombled on Canyon and JB so randomly haha
Awesome video. Very engaging. Watched every minute!
Keep up the great vids,,, also you said you talked to Jeremiah Bishop Im assuming he was former Giant Factory racer great, if he's that one,, damm you should have gotten a signature.....
I was with you all the way, sitting and watching from the comfort of my sofa.
Oh dude we used to go for a forest ride every week during winter. 40k in forest, plus 20k paved to get there and home. Oh it was soooo cool, with conditions different every time - water, snow, ice, its so much fun. One time I been literally SCATING on my CX bike almost the entire day, there was no grip on the whatsoever, fallen probably half a dozen times. BUT, it's so much fun, can totally recommend.
Great job. Cycling is for warriors, you know!
Thanks. That looks fun.
You rode JB’s bike! That’s the coolest part of the whole story.
Awesome vid! Super fun to watch! Neoprene is your friends for cold and wet. P.S. de-thaw = freeze ;)
Awesome video! Got to be one of your best!
Man binge watching ur vids after my first century ride of the year.😂
Awesome race, awesome video, as always! By the way, Rasputitsa is Russian for the mud season, I just googled it.
