The cover is not needed...just the prism (the oblique piece) just like on a windshield car display...just a reflection, not a hologram, only visible from 1 angle, not if you move to a side 20°...

You put your smartphone up to the lid and a hologram would project on phone screen of a violin or cello player playing classical music. When the song is over the timing is that the ice-cream is soft and ready to scoop. Novel idea! Too bad it was only a limited time.

In fact, if you were to lay the iPhone (or iPad) on the dash of your car, it would be reflected on your car’s windshield. It works for images but any lettering would need to be reversed to be seen correctly. Many years ago (before GPS Maps) I would print out the directions to the location I was traveling to in reversed text on a piece of paper then just lay it on the dash. I could see where to go without looking down at a map!

    Uh-oh, I think I found a new obsession. LOL
As if I need another one although, to be fair, at least many of your projects have value in this consumerist society. Now I can make my own things. kekekeke

By definition, a hologram looks different from different angles. This is a simple reflection, as was done in videogame arcade machines ~40 years ago, and is currently used in heads up displays. Interesting implementation, but nothing new. You seem like a creative however, so keep at it!

@@creativefest - I Co-Invented patent #US8704879, for viewing 3D on a 2D screen, done while I worked for Nintendo. It led me to this idea, which in turn led the 3DS:

If you find yourself with something killer, let me know, and I'll try and hook you up with the team I used to work for over at NTD.
