About 8 years as I recall Häagen-Dazs had a QR code on lid of their pints of ice cream. You put your smartphone up to the lid and a hologram would project on phone screen of a violin or cello player playing classical music. When the song is over the timing is that the ice-cream is soft and ready to scoop. Novel idea! Too bad it was only a limited time.

In fact, if you were to lay the iPhone (or iPad) on the dash of your car, it would be reflected on your car’s windshield. It works for images but any lettering would need to be reversed to be seen correctly. Many years ago (before GPS Maps) I would print out the directions to the location I was traveling to in reversed text on a piece of paper then just lay it on the dash. I could see where to go without looking down at a map!
this is a version of 'Peppers ghost' a trick used by magicians on stage to produce ephemeral 3d images, also a similar technique is used in film and tv, called front axial projection, so the idea is not new but the application is.
