Why not just buy a replacement part on Ebay? Did that for my old HP Pavilion dv6000 -- with tax less than $10. And, I don't need a microscope to repair the plug.
@@billweger133 Because he's in business offering a service I'd wager. Maybe repair, reconditioning, rebuilding, etc.. His expertise and /or talent is what a customer pays for. I say damn fine job, and I don't even like Mac's!
Louis Rossmann how do you reassemble the three wifi antenna connectors back to the motherboard ? I just can’t make it ...
I literally just had one of these break on a MacBook Air that I was testing. I'm going to just tuck this video into my will do list and keep it for reference. I didn't know the cable just slid in. I legit thought it was soldered.
Pretty sure the music was there just to cover up all the swearing during the tweezer work.
Darrell Johansen I was hissing and I only looked at the video.
I flipped my table 1 minute in.
If I was trying to reattach one of those on any computer there would be a blue streak high up in the atmosphere for a full week when I get done.
😂😂😂
Who is the music artist?
Storey Ayers? Biosphere? Deathprod
To be clear, we do not offer this as a service, it is far too much of a pain in the ass for the $$$, this was just for the lols. Please do not send us stuff for wifi wire repair.
Ok
Louis Rossmann, My wifi router would be proud.
Arokhantos no, because one would need to take the whole screen assembly apart.
but I have 20 of these to be fixed.. and since it's only just a connector.. I was hoping you would fix them for $1 each.
starshipeleven it wont work too much loss
When will Rossmann group start offering vasectomies?
As soon as Paul Daniels adds the schematic to his board repair software.
Don't delay, buy today!
Don't delay, snip today.
good. I am not the only one left fixing pointless bullshit in this world
I fixed some adidas samba shoes left in an alleyway the other day
Could we make a group for all of us that fix cheap ass shit?
^
I was just fixing an AC adapter cable for a 11 years old laptop.
Maybe we should start a contest.
piernov oh man you are right! Well at least I am not fixing desktop motherboa... oh...
:P kidding
I don't blame you for the music overlay.
I have a feeling if there were no music, it would sound like Morse Code on crack.
SunnyZ *had been no music
Either is fine, grammatically. One is more formal (and precise) than the other.
Paul is the master of patience and the soft touch as witnessed by this video. I hope he gets a raise soon.
Jesus - unless you have actually seen one of these connectors yourself you cannot understand from this video just how insanely difficult doing this is. Everything looks huge on videos through microscopes. The connector is only 1.5mm outer diameter and the micro-coax is insanely thin. Louis - your guys are incredible! Not surprised this was just a one off.
Damn, the steadiest hands in the universe
Paul is a monster.
I would have destroyed it. There is no way I could do that.
I bet Sharky could beat Paul when it comes to repair!
Wasn't he drunk filming this? :V
NLmitchieNL I always search if someone did it on UA-cam before even touching expensive stuff.
I appreciate your video, it helped me repair my MacBook. I used a piece of packing tape with the sticky side up and attached to the surface with 2 additional pieces of tape. This method held the wifi connector in place while I opened and inserted the cable. it also made it easy to crimp the tongs back down onto the connector. the sticky surface will also help if your connector comes lose while manipulation the wire into the connector. holding the connector at a fixed focal point, makes working under the microscope a more comfortable experience. thanks
"How to repair a wifi cable"
After watching this video i thought...With gasoline!!!
After this video, I might as well get a new computer. This is too much work for me.
Very inspiring video of this EVA operation at your national subspace station. Also inspiring to see that I'm not the only one suffering from components flying off my tweezers.
Well done man. I just started repairing 3 ufl connectors which are the same and saved lots of money as I race drones that use these to the vtx and take plenty of abuse. Great job 👍🏾
Louis Rossmann, Ive worked with so many of those in my WiFi business, and always wondered how they work! Thanks for the magnified video of that uFl WiFi connector!
I’m so grateful right now. I somehow did it without a microscope after literally praying and believing that I could do it. My connection part (the tiny little black thing inside the housing even came out at one point and I managed to fit it back in. Never fixed a computer before in my life until tonight. Thank you for the video.
"if we can fix it, we fix it, and if we cant, we send it to Paul so he can fix it"
-Louis Rossman, 2018
Best quote, second only to "last time I checked my watch it still said america."
I repeat, we bow to you Paul S.
Much better with the music this time Louis :) Cheers.
I never attempted a U.fl connector repair but it doesn't seem that hard now. It's good to know they are only crimped and not soldered like a SMA or MMCX connector. Thanks for the video!
Thought about using a blob of blue tack to hold the part in one place?
I'd just like to add, when I was faced with this repair, I bought about 10 of the little buggers, and the final way i figured out how to do it, and it was very easy to do the second one, was to put down a bit of double sided foam tape and put the connector innards up on to the tape and then use a dental pick to open the latch and the little hands of the strain relief. then you can poke the bare wire into the latch and stick the wire down to the tape so it doesn't pull away, and you are free to push down the latch and do up the strain relief. I usually do those on most connectors by folding both side in and pressing down in the middle so it makes an "m" shape and then a squeeze on the sides.
this little connector cost 10???? what kind of magnifier you use to perform the task?
BRAVO PAUL 👏 Extreme dexterity and patience
Even though it doesn't say this anywhere in the video description, it turned up when searching for "u.fl connector repair". I had no idea that they hinged apart like that. Seeing it under a magnifying glass helped me fix my Caddx Vista antenna pigtail, so thanks for sharing! That being said - F u.fl connectors, they suck! Everything should be MMCX.
Hi, can you buy those connectors if they have been to badly damaged or lost? Thanks
A little trick I use, some double sided tape aa tape to workbench so doesn't move around. Makes it a tad easier reshaping, naturally can't do other side unless flip & retape, but get the idea. AND yeah, a pain is butt to do these & have lost tons of connectors from flying across the room😄
Cheers, A
Thanks for this. Just fixed mine for my drone antennas after being too rough on the landing. Your video helped me know how these come apart.
That really helped me! thanks Paul, thanks Louis.
Do you have any advice for getting the antenna leads onto the card? I'm trying to put a new airport card into an '09 Mac Pro and having some trouble getting it to stay.
Geez, UFL connectors are pretty dodgy (in terms of durability and insertion-cycles) right from the get-go so I wouldn't bet the house on the reliability of one after a fix like this ;-)
Blessings to you Louis!!!.... Patience like a rock! Keep up the great work!
with this music the louis rossmann ASMR experience is awesome! ;-)
Is it possible to resolder a broken wire if the connector is fine? I mean yes it's solderable but will it work for wifi?
Your patience is admirable! God bless you! But where do you get the parts from?
Magnet holds it down and stops it from flying away. I still haven't found a simple way to open them up except to mess around like you did. I took a file to the end of a fine pair of pliers and carved a triangle groove in each side with a file for re-clamping the tabs. It works well. This happens a lot on drones. It's like they use an inferior method to attach them.
I tried and miserably failed... Ended up applying to much pressure around the connector with tweezers and crushed the circle into an oval.... No more connection.
I opted to cut the cable down on the area where it is screwed into the hinge and then snipped the cables in the same place off a cracked display, then soldered them together, making new cables with working connections. Much less of a head ache. :)
But props to you for being able to pull this off!
Very helpful! Thank you, Sir
Hey dude :), nice video. Got a question. May be you can help me. Looking for the right kind of IPEX cable to use as a extension for Mac pro 2009. Want to connect the Bluetooth cable with broadcom WiFi card. Don't know the kind/size of the connector.
Greetings
Thank you so much. I had no idea how these connectors worked.
i actually had this happen recently, pram was on its way out, had a system error so thought id wipe and reflash, proceeds to no longer boot. take it to the store and they spend, and i quote, 1 hour 3 minutes to find out the wifi module was not operating correctly. when i asked why you need the wifi to function to boot he laughed with me.
I closed my eyes and was at a sub surface aquarium
baggins1 lmfaooo
I did this with a magnifying glass and it took me 6h! Well done!
I wish I was just a little bit younger! God Bless talented people and their patience with these tiny parts!
So my MacBook has 3 antenna connectors, what does each connector do? Specifically the far left one because that’s the one I broke by accident
It seems like your microscope focus is not the same as the cameras' focus. Would it be possible for you to change that? I think Louis' setup has the same problem.
It's got to be the same. He is looking between the binocular view and the TV screen while he is working. (The TV he is looking at to do his work has the same output that we see.) If it wasn't the same, he would have to adjust it every time he switches his view between the TV and the binocular views.
I am trying to re attach the connector too, .!
My question is.., that single cable..right??! There are no negativity /polarity..between the core and the casing body..??!
Thanks for inspiring video!!
Inspired by this video, I successfully repaired a damaged WIFI connector from an expensive recent DELL laptop under 5 minutes with just a pin head.
steps:
1) open up the holders of the connector head from the cable using a pin
2) pull the cable out of the connector
3) do the same thing if you have a spare connector from a unused antenna cable (outdated laptop or broken screen, etc)
4) use your hand to push the cable tip into the working connector head
5) use your finger/finger nail to close the opened holder metals.
Some people comment on why not just buy a cable, well for a recent DELL laptop, there is no part available, sometimes DELL doesn't have it.
can you tell me what the bottom connector is used for on this mac? i know the top one is wifi/ and bluetooth. I repaired the screen on my macbook air a1466 and i bent the connector to the bottom antenna when trying to reseat; but i can't figure out what the bottom antenna goes to as everything seems to be working on the laptop.? i appreciate your help
hey is it possible to re-attach the wifi antenna, and facetime connectors and also the two other connectors together?
Incredible.
so I know this is an old video but would this be the same connector and repair procedure as a U.fl antenna? Thanks!
So peaceful, such a contrast to how frustrating that surely was.
Hi, what is the part name of the connector and where to buy it? Thanks.
please can you help? Macbook pro A1398 mid 2015. Where do I get the connectors that you just fixed. All 3 were broken on my display and what is the part number?
My next door neighbor is a specialist in attaching severed limbs and nano vascular surgery. A basically lives with on microscope and micro wires and stitching. But This music would put him to sleep after 4 hours. Usually listens to the Die Antwood During surgery
Yeah, I've tried to do that before too. Try doing it without a microscope. Then try doing it after having cataract surgery. I just wiped the stupid connector off the board and terminated to it directly. It works.
Hmm yeah, no one is going to ever unplug it so, that actually sounds like a good plan.
How did the industry settle on this stupid connector? It was never made to replug reliably.
epic, this is a massive amount of patience
Unrelated to the video but thank you for teaching me that opening a device does not mean to break it. Will replace the audio jack on my phone soon which isn't a big operation but without your occasional pep talk I think I would have let a shop do it.
A wizard performing magic
Is there a down side (except it being permanent) to just soldering it on the board?
love the hipnotic music!!!
Just amazing work Im impressed! Thank you for posting your video's. I need to find out where to buy these tools.
Oh man, beautiful!
thanks for this, really a lifesaver, not sure why with just one antenna wifi is almost non existent, by the way those who dont know, middle antenna is bluetooth, first and third r wifi....
Can you find and buy the metal connectors separately?
I like this video, it's not about money but only for fun and consentrated
How do you SPLICE this kind of wire? Am I right that its basically micro-mini coaxial cable, so the inner copper has to be electrically isolated from the outer aluminum (?) silver colored shielding? My three wires running from my Macbook pro base to the display were severed. A new display is almost $400. Would love to splice these three wires again and save the moolah.
Best regards from Poland, nice job I mad that same in my case
he louis been watching you working with tweesers on pritty smal components all the time but is this guy on a coffee bender;) shaky man but he does an exelent job keep it up guys love your videos greetss from the netherlands
your the best brother. I wish I have the patience for that
Can you fix rich rebuilds Tesla motor power inverter controller board that got flooded?
I can try
Louis Rossmann That's the spirit!
The only reason to buy Apple products is so Louis can fix it and we can watch it.
What is the tool called that's used to help connect those plugs ? Thanks
Nicely done, Paul !
But I will never can do this, because of my patience.... :D
I repaired a cable like this once, I soldered the loose wires and reclamped it. Though it was a slightly different shape. (Cellular repairs)
I need this done!! Just replaced the screen assembly on a MacBook Air, all smooth and easy til the very end, when attaching the 2 WiFi antenna cables back to the card, that little gold connector on one of them popped off from the wire. Now what!? Don’t know if I am capable of doing what was done in this video, but it’s exactly what I need to be able to reconnect the WiFi antenna wire to the WiFi card. I finally have a nice, new, working screen and new life in my MacBook, except that now one of the WiFi antenna wires inside isn’t connected... Grrrrrrrrr.......
Same here, did you find a place to buy one?
@@crispfayrouz4936 nope!
Wow! That was better than Ocean's 8! It had drama, adversity, and finally, the hero perseveres! The cameraman needs more training, but overall, Great job!
Racist!!!!1111
Haha, I guess I wasn't very clear. The camera on the Tech's equipment (his 'scope?) was often blurry. No, you captured the working tech quite beautifully.
I somehow managed to use a tiny dot of solder instead of cursing this piece back together. I imagine I will not see peak connectivity now but wonder if this issue or any other will be noticeable?
Thanks
UFL jack is possible to terminate by hand?
Where did you find the MHF4 connector? I need to replace mine and I can't find any online store that sells that connector!
Hi Louis, my name is Hemanth. I'm from Hyderabad, India. Of late, I've been watching a lot of your training (and Apple-Bashing!) videos and I like most (must admit all) of them! Well, coming to my problem. I had WiFi connectivity issue with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100. I tried a workaround - to overlay a thin wafer of eraser on top of the WiFi chip so that it sits tightly against the PCB. I know this isn't a decent approach but it never failed thereafter, in that, my phone always lists the WiFi devices, which it wouldn't earlier. So, I'm quite Okay with it since I lack the finesse of the craft of micro-soldering. Alongside this "workaround", I was also trying to fix the antenna, where it was oxidized so badly that it wouldn't pick signal if I move away from the WiFi router. So, I started tweaking around with the Antenna Pin (the spring like pin - the ones made by Harwin, I suppose); this pin comes in contact with the WiFi antenna. In the process, the pin got broken. So, I de-soldered its remaining piece from the PCB and attempted to solder back a similar Harwin Pin in its place several times but with no luck. It got to a point where I lost the entire pad ( I doubt If there was any Or maybe two tiny little "solder blobs" to rest on, Or I may have damaged it by applying the soldering Iron too many times! Don't actually recollect.). Again, as a workaround, I placed a small solder blob (somehow it managed to "stick" to the board) in place of the Harwin pin so that it presses snugly against the WiFi antenna . Now, I also get a decent signal. But I'm not happy with this work because the solder blob a little larger ( a millimeter or 2) causing the back panel from closing properly. My query to you is - Will it be okay to scrape the board in order to solder the antenna pin? I don't know if there's a conducting material beneath that substrate. I thank you for taking your time to read this rather long NOT-STRAIGHT-TO-THE-POINT query!
Can I get your socials by any chance? I need to ask you one question about this.
Does it matter which connector goes where? I see the J0/J1/J2 but the cables are not identified.. any help?
Paul with the clutch!
Help... My laptop antenna connectors are not broken but the thing on the motherboard that they snap on has come out of the motherboard... I'm currently using electric tape to keep it in place... But how to I repair it or fix it?
Could this be done by just soldering a spliced cable that already has the connector on it, to the old broken cable and cover it up with heatshrink sleeve? Or would that affect the signal?
I doubt you can solder a coax that small. It is a center lead, insulator, and then outer conductive sheath. Basically a wire inside a wire. You normally use crimp connectors. As far as I can tell, no inline splice crimp exists for 1.13mm coax cable. Just end connectors. The only real option is to install a new connector because there is no way to join the existing cable to a cable with a connector on it that will fit inside a laptop.
Seems like you could make it easier by gluing a small bit of rubber to the inside of the tweezers.
The Patience of a saint because I will know done it.
where can I get those pins-connector? mine is missing :(
where to find such strong tweezers
Can I ask you something?
Where can I buy the U.FL female connector ?
Thanks allot for your video.
Oh God... What type/size of tweezers do I need? I have an iPad Mini 4 with a broken antenna conector.
The most subtle mockery of Apple hardware quality. Simply, gorgeous.
PS: I realized that Xiaomi pays more to Foxconn than Apple in Quality Control process (honestly, the internal parts of every Xiaomi smartphone is much better built than Apple).
this is performance art louis...
Yea I did this once in my repair shop. Once. Was easier to take a wire from another junk machine and solder that one in place.
Even with the music I can hear the cursing. Epic job.
@Louis Rossmann, care to share the track's title? :)
Nice music fits well
How to fix an Apple product, don’t buy it in the first place lololololol
A nice relaxing vid mate... hahaha
What is the antenna connector called? I need to fix one, but can not find it.
Its called IPEX (I-PEX) pretty common micro coax connector
Can connectors be bought?
