You can get a 12v to 110v converter and solar panel for what the ego converter cost. Then use your charger that came with the tools that you already have. Then keep the batteries charged without your power station going down.

That is my thought exactly, the rapid charger comes with a bunch of the tools and charges the 5AH batteries in like 25-30 minutes. OP says two batteries charged in a whole day... It almost seems counterintuitive to by the EGO solar charger when you could just power the rapid charger with the array and eliminate the need for pass through charging. Especially if you can get four batteries charging at the same time...

After I'd searched for a while this was the best value charger I found and it's new, boxed up well, and it's built as well as any charger I've had.
Get you some 10AH batteries for that thing! That's mostly why I bought the Z6 zero turn. It comes with 4 of them. That inverter runs quite a while with 40ah 56vdc.
What's also cool is the Z6 charges all SIX batteries at the same time in 2 hrs or less. I have 4x10ah+2x7.5ah. 7.5ah came with the 2 stage snowblower which works great.
We bought one for mostly the same reason. I brought the genny on my birthday camping trip this year and I ran my electric kettle, Costco Edison string lights, phone and laptop chargers, charged my Rockie Talkies 2x and used my instapot for 30 mins and it lasted 3.5 days. That was using the lights from dark until bed (2.5-4 hrs per night), the kettle for coffees for 4 every morning etc. It lasted substantially longer than just having the regular 7s. Pretty stoked about the the zero turn as well actually... But I for sure want to get a rig going that will power the rapid charger from a solar array to juice the batteries quickly and then have 8 10s that can rotate. If anyone has found such a rig, would love a link.
It's cool that Ego has released this power bar. I have a huge problem with the fact that this nexus takes soooooooo long to charge all four batteries using AC power (plugged into the wall). It seems like it would only take even longer with the solar charger (which sounds like a nightmare lol). Have you considered making a video comparing the EGO solar charger into the nexus vs just using a 120V inverter and using the rapid charger. I know for me, I just charge the batteries using the EGO Rapid chargers and then plug them into the Nexus when they're full. It seems like the solution to the pass through charge problem to me. Having not tried it myself, I don't know which is why I suggested you make a vid to compare. Seems like you could save yourself the cost of the EGO solar inverter and just use the rapid chargers with a regular solar array then plug them into the nexus when you have them fully charged... Just a thought. Thanks for the vid. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my Nexus aside from the slow charging of the batteries.
I was thinking the same. Just have a separate direct AC inverter to run a standard charger, and cycle batteries. It would be nice if passthrough was included with the power station though, but at least they have an option now for an easy... though limited solar option.
Ego needs to come out with a separate rapid charger or multi port charger that is compatible with the ch1800 so you can use the power station and hot swap the batteries as they discharge. Pull 1 or 2 batteries off and insert two fresh batteries while you recharge the discharged batteries via separate solar charger.
For all us Nexus Power Station owners, I'd love to extend the life of these units with a LiFePO4 battery, ideally a 5KWhr 48v Server Rack. If you take your EGO Link backpack adapter (BH1001), and remove the connection cable from the backpack (or simply buy a replacement cable ARC1500), can you connect the backpack adapter to the Nexus slot, and the other end of the Link cable directly to the + & - leads of the LiFeP04 battery. This would sort of give you pass through LiFePO4. This would be a great option for us in the EGO ecosystem. Thanks much.
I used a satellite dish mount and paired a 180w solar panel to the nexus. its a nice solution for a camp to run string lights at night and charge cellphones and charge tool battery for cutting up wood for the smoker. While the nexus does not offer pass through charging you can get the Ego escape mini inverter that's rated for 150w.
All I want to know is one very simple thing. How did you get your Wifi to work? Like the Wifi connection on your power station. I've followed the directions, and it will never connect. What did you do to get it to work?

A lot of people complain about not able to use a while charging. Solution is to buy another power station and have that as your dedicated charging station. Now you have backup and 2 to play with.

EGO said they will eventually release a firmware update) but apparently seem to also work for many people!
Great video, but Jackery power station / kit seems like better route if you plan to use it camping / glamping… Jackery can be in use and charged at same time.
Actually there are multiple better options. Folks who already own EGO gear are looking for a solution that interfaces with what they have. The power station is it, but unfortunately is still a beta. Seems EGO rushed to market.
Nice review. I do have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of this solar charger. It seems quite odd not to have pass through or rapid charging. When faced with outages and one needs power there is no time to stop everything and charge batteries. I like this power station and I have actually built my own solar charger which charges the batteries only. Hence I can use the generator and simply hot swap the batteries when needed.
What was your charge time with just one panel? The amperage went up on the reposition but if you didn’t run in parallel would the charge time still have been 30 minutes? On a new 7.5 battery down to 20% my charge time was just over 5 hours with one renogy panel in direct sun at noonish
Great video but the biggest problem with these that NO ONE is talking about is this is a very poor option for a power outages unless you remember to charge the batteries first, and no one ever knows when an outage will occur. Remember, Ego DOES NOT recommend keeping the batteries stored charged and in fact they automatically will discharge after 30 days. You could of course put the solar panels outside and wait a day or two for the batteries to charge :)

Do you know if it connects to mini fridge constantly, can it accept solar charge the same time. I saw somewhere says that it cannot be charged and discharging the same time. If so, when being charged by the solar, I have to disconnect everything, right?
It cannot do pass thru charging aka cannot be used as power source and charge at the same time. You can keep the fridge connected to the outlet while charging, it just will not be powered.

That will not work. If you look at the manual it states the input voltage is between 12-22 Volts. 27 is too high. In the odd case it does work I would be more concerned with it adversely affecting the power station or the charger in the long run.

hmm hard to say. bc if you're going to do that, why not just get one that has pass through charging? anything small that has ability to charge the ego batteries from solar would do good. something like a jackery explorer, or even the new klien tools power station. but at that cost it would be hard to justify.

We currently use Mr Blue, as we affectionately call it lol, to charge our Ego battery using a regular Ego charger. I’ve been looking at this system and wondering about setting up Mr Blue to charge via solar panel, and then pass-through charge to this system by simply plugging this system into one of Mr Blue’s AC outlets. Skip the solar panel “upgrade.” I’m probably not going to invest in this, though. At least not right now. I love me some Ego, but this feels slapped together AF. I think I’ll wait for the second generation before plunking down my hard-earned money. Which is disappointing, bc I expect more out of Ego. I hope this isn’t indicative of a downward slide of quality from them. 🥺
180W Solar would be painful, as you couldn't even charge the full system with in a normal 5-6hr of peak sun per day. Since there is plenty of time in the "day" that you wouldn't really get much solar energy. I think systems like this are great if you have a bunch of spare (charged) batteries that you can bring with you, but not very useful if you actually want to keep the system charged when you have no access to AC power (so you can use the quick charger).
Well I noticed that costs can be cut by looking up off brand stuff. Such as battery for the Ego batteries. Some of the 12ah one I seen maybe under $250 or under $200. With being able to hook up multiple solar panels to the Power station. You can really reduce changing time. From EGO website you should be able to add as many solar panels you want if you have enough MC4 splitters. If it's at 12v and under 180watt each panel. You might be able to charge some batteries in less than 30 minutes. Might even get a 12ah one down to that much. I'm starting to develop a plan for this kind of thing.
I'm looking for a power station and you gave me some great information. Do you have any idea if the Ego power company has plans to allow charging and discharging at the same time in the near future. That's more ideal for me. Also, if I'm running a 100 W fan for my wood burning insert, how long will that power station last before needing to be recharged?
I dont' know of any plans from EGO since i;ve not been in contact with them, but everyone wants pass through charging so i wouldn't be surprised if they released a new model that supported it. This first gen model cannot be updated with software to enable pass through charging so it will have to be a new model. ROUGH math says.... with 1x 7.5 ah battery = 54v*7.5ah = 405 watt hours - 20% (405*.8=324). so 324 / 100 = ~ 3.24 hours; probably more.
I’m an idiot when it comes to this stuff. Could you use one of the plugs to charge another battery while the inverter is on? So use two plugs for whatever you are needing, and the third one plug in a rapid charger, that way you can rotate and always have a full battery, or would charging one, drain the other 4 too quickly?

Im not sure if i get the scenario you are pointing out but if im understanding what you're saying it seems like you're just using moving the charge from one battery to another through the inverter and the charger. Which is incredibly inefficient. You have to keep efficiency involved. Remember the batteries are powering the inverter so you are converting DC to AC, then you're using the rapid charger to convert AC to DC. what are you gaining? where is the power being injected into this loop? in a perfect world where the conversion were 100% efficient, you would still lose bc of the resistance of the wires. you would be better served, by plugging in the rapid charger to charge a battery into a wall and walking over to hotswap the lower batteries in the inverter.
Thats so bad about their solar max input... 180Watts... come on, wtf ?! At least 350-450W or even up to 1000W will be so nice. Plus the pass thru charging not working. If they want to sell more units they should listen to the market. Think about RV customer, it could be pretty nice for them especially if they already have tools or mower/equipments back at home! Lmao Hextronic XT60s have gone stupidly far. I remember when I was showing them to my friends at the flying field as a great replacement for the old Deans connector.
Too much money and undependable, I came out yesterday and one of my brand new batteries was flashing red and super hot just sitting there not hooked to anything, this was used one time and recharged after ego replaced it, I've had nothing but bad luck with ego batteries and have probably been through eight of them. I'll stick with my honda generator, it has never failed and cost half what this setup did.
Why not just use a 110 ac outlet off your inverter fed by the solar panels? you eliminate the whole need for the ego limited accesory at 180w which to me is ridiculous and with all that money I can buy more 40v ryobi batteries with they all the same lithium is lithium. I built a simple 12v system where I charge all my lithium tool batteries by solar for lights, fans, ope etc I really think the ryobi 40 volt inverter is much more useful and easily portable and at 300w its capable of running any small appliance at a much lower cost. Just with my ryobi 18 volt inverter I can run a fan for 12 hours and have 2 bars left on a 4ah battery, a 18v 4ah will run a light for 5 days continuous you dont need these huge power stations
If you have to use solar panels for this inverter it defeats the purpose ,solar system off the grid : roof solar panels>tracking controller>12 volt batteries array in parallel >power inverter voila you have power off the grid,of course this is not a portable solution ,you make it sound very complicated sorry ,I understand solar and for this expensive power solution I would rather have a gas generator that runs for hours on a full tank and then you just fill it again

180 watts is a no go with all the panels out these days you need a higher input voltage
I have the Nexus, and a Generac battery thing with it's solar panels. I wonder if they would now also work with the Ego?

It does not. Not sure if dc charge input is even available for the unit. They need to make a new versions addressing all the short comings.

I think systems like this are great if you have a bunch of spare (charged) batteries that you can bring with you, but not very useful if you actually want to keep the system charged when you have no access to AC power (so you can use the quick charger).

Well I noticed that costs can be cut by looking up off brand stuff. Such as battery for the Ego batteries. Some of the 12ah one I seen maybe under $250 or under $200. With being able to hook up multiple solar panels to the Power station. You can really reduce changing time. From EGO website you should be able to add as many solar panels you want if you have enough MC4 splitters. If it's at 12v and under 180watt each panel. You might be able to charge some batteries in less than 30 minutes. Might even get a 12ah one down to that much. I'm starting to develop a plan for this kind of thing.

Not with power tool batteries. There are other “solar generators” that will allow pass through charging like eco flow delta, inergy, bluetti
I'm looking for a power station and you gave me some great information.
Do you have any idea if the Ego power company has plans to allow charging and discharging at the same time in the near future. That's more ideal for me.
Also, if I'm running a 100 W fan for my wood burning insert, how long will that power station last before needing to be recharged?
I dont' know of any plans from EGO since i;ve not been in contact with them, but everyone wants pass through charging so i wouldn't be surprised if they released a new model that supported it. This first gen model cannot be updated with software to enable pass through charging so it will have to be a new model. ROUGH math says.... with 1x 7.5 ah battery = 54v*7.5ah = 405 watt hours - 20% (405*.8=324). so 324 / 100 = ~ 3.24 hours; probably more.

I’m an idiot when it comes to this stuff. Could you use one of the plugs to charge another battery while the inverter is on? So use two plugs for whatever you are needing, and the third one plug in a rapid charger, that way you can rotate and always have a full battery, or would charging one, drain the other 4 too quickly?

@@urbangame16 thanks for the response. As long as it doesn’t drain all the batteries faster than it can charge one, it seems to me like you’ll have 100% uptime so long as you keep switching the batteries.
Im not sure if i get the scenario you are pointing out but if im understanding what you're saying it seems like you're just using moving the charge from one battery to another through the inverter and the charger. Which is incredibly inefficient. You have to keep efficiency involved. Remember the batteries are powering the inverter so you are converting DC to AC, then you're using the rapid charger to convert AC to DC. what are you gaining? where is the power being injected into this loop? in a perfect world where the conversion were 100% efficient, you would still lose bc of the resistance of the wires.
you would be better served, by plugging in the rapid charger to charge a battery into a wall and walking over to hotswap the lower batteries in the inverter.

Thats so bad about their solar max input... 180Watts... come on, wtf ?! At least 350-450W or even up to 1000W will be so nice. Plus the pass thru charging not working. If they want to sell more units they should listen to the market. Think about RV customer, it could be pretty nice for them especially if they already have tools or mower/equipments back at home!

I remember when I was showing them to my friends at the flying field as a great replacement for the old Deans connector.
Too much money and undependable, I came out yesterday and one of my brand new batteries was flashing red and super hot just sitting there not hooked to anything, this was used one time and recharged after ego replaced it, I've had nothing but bad luck with ego batteries and have probably been through eight of them. I'll stick with my honda generator, it has never failed and cost half what this setup did.

Why not just use a 110 ac outlet off your inverter fed by the solar panels? you eliminate the whole need for the ego limited accesory at 180w which to me is ridiculous and with all that money I can buy more 40v ryobi batteries with they all the same lithium is lithium. I built a simple 12v system where I charge all my lithium tool batteries by solar for lights, fans, ope etc I really think the ryobi 40 volt inverter is much more useful and easily portable and at 300w its capable of running any small appliance at a much lower cost. Just with my ryobi 18 volt inverter I can run a fan for 12 hours and have 2 bars left on a 4ah battery, a 18v 4ah will run a light for 5 days continuous you dont need these huge power stations

If you have to use solar panels for this inverter it defeats the purpose ,solar system off the grid : roof solar panels>tracking controller>12 volt batteries array in parallel >power inverter voila you have power off the grid,of course this is not a portable solution ,you make it sound very complicated sorry ,I understand solar and for this expensive power solution I would rather have a gas generator that runs for hours on a full tank and then you just fill it again
