Me and my wife decided to get rid of our car 4 years ago. We initially used car-sharing for grocery shopping. Later a bike trailer. Both did not integrate well with our daily bike mobility. Now a year ago we bought/built a (non electric) "Veloader" cargo-bike kit and it integrates perfectly into our everyday mobility and. Would not want to miss it!
We've been enjoying our LvH Bullitt E8000 cargo bike for over two years now and the front-loader bakfiets-style cargo bike and can say they are a blast to ride. The more weight it carries, the better it rides.
I bought a Haibike XDuro with the 120Nm Flyon motor, rack, integrated lights and GPS/GSM tracker for peace of mind. However, I did not anticipate that it would replace my car. I haven’t driven since January and I regularly commute and shop with loaded panniers plus cargo net and the thing pulls like a train!
as a bike mechanic fixing bike on the road in Paris with a cargo bike i can tell you we're the future we are cheaper, quicker and faster than other alternative when we need it we can also add a big trailer but dont be focused on this bike, there is a lot of different model for different use. My coworkers love the Bullitt for his aggressive or sportive position witch help to go faster, like faster than the 25km/h of the motor assist), my personal best is 43km/h on the champ Elysee I prefer the Douze for his steel frame witch give more compliance and his cable direction for manoeuvrability And don't be fixed on the bosch motor also, it's like other component sometime on paper one seems better than another but in feel you prefer the cheaper one, i personally prefer the fell of a back wheel motor than a crank motor and strangely my favourite assist come from the cheapest motor we have. and you can ride them quite easily without any motor assist on the flat or low gradients, that why some of them are not sold with motor assist btw riding them is easier than you think it's like 15 min of practice for low speed and that's it
Great video! More people need to realise that the bike is also a mode of transport! That Cago looks like a great bike. The name isn’t the best for Portugal but so isn’t Kona and we see them here. By the way, Lisbon’s city has a program to encourage people to buy cargo bikes. Not only they give you some money to help you with the hefty price, but they also have a few ones you can try for a month. They’re the future for urban mobility!!
but unfortunately we are not able to built the infrastructure for cyclists. In most german cities cars are still king and use most of the public space....so sad

The car of the future? :-) Love the powertrain. I assume you can get an insulated box for it or have one made special. Seems like a great option for long bike trips. I would definitely use this for shopping.
I know this is all about cargo bikes, but I have to give a shout out for helping with a food saving program. Up until the covid I used to volunteer regularly collecting, preparing and sharing food with those that are food insecure. We served in a large park at our city center so our efforts have been sidelined by public health measures. I like the idea of potentially delivering food via cycle though. Maybe something we can incorporate in the future. Anyone looking into it, this is a great way to feed those in need and increase the efficiency of our food supply chain.
Hard to accept that in the UK in 2020 we are in such need for charities to relieve food poverty. However, we'll done GCN for highlighting this great work in such an interesting way. Now that's GCN inspiration! 👍
With engineering technological improvement, all I can see with a bit of lateral thinking is how fantastic e endurance road bikes are going to be in a few year's time. Living in Yorkshire near to the Dales, plenty to look forward to.
This would be brilliant for the meals on wheels runs and food bank shopping deliveries I currently have to do in a car around South Manchester. Sadly I don't have the funds to ever buy one of these, but it looks amazing.
i can not think of a single better way to test a cargo bike, helping out others in need, not just loading up with groceries or weights, or not testing it at all just going for a joy ride
I'd love a cargo bike but we have so many of these "forward-reverse" cycle gates to go through on so many cycle lanes that they're actually preventing me from using them.
Now you gotta so a e-cargo challenge. Have two presenters tasked with buying supplies to build a large doghouse. First person to collect the wood and bring it back to the location wins. Maybe throw a couple obstacles into the mix. Please make this episode lol
Yes In Switzerland we have such a service and it's great. I wouldn't like to have to secure such an expensive bike outside as I don't have a way to store it inside.
Awesome video! I really liked that it featured a bike while also being able to feature an organization helping its community. Only thing I would have done differently would be to have convinced CaGo to donate the bike to their group ;)
About a year ago I bought an Andersen shopper for a little over 150€ (shopping bag with big wheels that will attach to and be pulled by just about any bike). 60 litters have been enough to eliminate almost all urban car trips for my wife and me. If we had had kids, we would have considered a cargo bike. This one looks really good but... it's not exactly cheap.
It's worth noting that the 85 Nm of torque is peak torque. You will only get that at the very beginning of your torque curve, i.e. starting from a standstill. At full speed it will be something more like 10-20, which is fine on flats, but might be a problem on hills. I've had issues with my Bosch CX on the grades of San Francisco when hauling more than 200 lbs. I highly doubt you would be able to haul 250 kg up a hill. I have essentially the same motor, on a much lighter bike, and it struggles with 90 kg on grades over 5%. Note also that a chain is capable of far more torque than a belt drive. I really don't understand all of these cargo bike manufacturers putting belt drives on their bikes lately. Sure, it's quiet and oil free, but you want maximum torque and strength for cargo applications.
Larry vs Harry eBullitt for the win, been around for years, handle daily life no problem and if the front doesn't have enough space, the motor helps pull a trailer too.
Cargobikes are the most important thing for a car-free-city. There are so much services that don't need a big car or truck. We do have a delivery-service in my service based on cargo bikes and they work pretty well and went up from 1 to 4 or 5 cargo bikes in 2 years now. Nevertheless the bikelanes here in Germany are often nearly impossible to use by cargobikes because they are too narrow. And if you ride on the car lanes you get noisy complaints by car-drivers. Still a lot to do.
I like it, when you showcase special bike categories. (Am more of a special bike fan, than a road racing bike fan.) I would have liked it a bit broader, showing some different types, but I guess you are a bit bound by your sponsors.
For me the biggest worry with ebikes is making sure that I could get replacement parts 5, 10, or more years from now. With this big an investment and with many new players in the space, I'd worry about a company going bust and no longer making replacements available.
that's why building your own, with an existing bike and an ebike kit, is probably the best in terms of longevity (more difficult up front obviously), as all the normal bike parts are just standard, and if your battery, motor etc. needs replacing you can add in any brand you want that's currently available

I think they are awesome mobility...great video love what the people do there..thumbs up 👍😎😍
These should be subsidized the same amount as an electric car. That's $3000 here, that would get a lot more people on ebikes
Yeah, I'm sending a link to this to my dad and my daughter. This is fantastic. And what a great cause you helped out too.
Awesome vid, great to have a vid that's not just about a "road" bike and talks about the community too.
I haven’t driven since January and I regularly commute and shop with loaded panniers plus cargo net and the thing pulls like a train!
as a bike mechanic fixing bike on the road in Paris with a cargo bike i can tell you we're the future
we are cheaper, quicker and faster than other alternative
when we need it we can also add a big trailer
but dont be focused on this bike, there is a lot of different model for different use.
My coworkers love the Bullitt for his aggressive or sportive position witch help to go faster, like faster than the 25km/h of the motor assist), my personal best is 43km/h on the champ Elysee
I prefer the Douze for his steel frame witch give more compliance and his cable direction for manoeuvrability
And don't be fixed on the bosch motor also, it's like other component sometime on paper one seems better than another but in feel you prefer the cheaper one, i personally prefer the fell of a back wheel motor than a crank motor and strangely my favourite assist come from the cheapest motor we have.
and you can ride them quite easily without any motor assist on the flat or low gradients, that why some of them are not sold with motor assist
btw riding them is easier than you think it's like 15 min of practice for low speed and that's it
Amazing machine and worthy charity. Good one, Hank!!
Looks like a great bike! As a bike courier I would love to have one of these bikes, E-bikes pass me all the time when I'm working. :'( Oh well.
E-Bikes are getting really popular - imagine how many more parcels you could carry
I love German products. Facts and figures instead of 20 minutes of marketing BS.
As a german, i appreciate your comment ;)
but unfortunately we are not able to built the infrastructure for cyclists. In most german cities cars are still king and use most of the public space....so sad
@@johannesfranck1770 It varies across the country doesn't it? I've found it's generally better than the UK. Cologne is pretty much as bad as any city over here, though.
@@liamness yeah cologne is known for its cars first approach. They have converted a ton of car lanes to bike lanes in the last few months in berlin though! They even have bollards so people dont park on them
Dear GCN team,
thank you so much for providing an insight into solving daily COVID 19
troubles ...
Brave job and stay well and fit!
Thanks for highlighting FoodCycle. I think I'm going to volunteer this summer - will help me t shift some of my Covid excess.
Amazing to hear!
The car of the future? :-)
Love the powertrain.
If cycle delivery can be incorporated it could be a fantastic combination. Thanks for everything you do Mark
Hard to accept that in the UK in 2020 we are in such need for charities to relieve food poverty. However, we'll done GCN for highlighting this great work in such an interesting way. Now that's GCN inspiration! 👍
Wow that CaGo is an unfortunate name for Italy! Thumbs up for cargo bikes though
Exactly the same thing I thought as soon as I heard the name...
Not going to sell many in Spain, either!
Or in portuguese speaking countries
Similar to why the Chevy Nova didn't sell well in Mexico. :)
What does it mean in Italy/Spain/Portugal?
With engineering technological improvement, all I can see with a bit of lateral thinking is how fantastic e endurance road bikes are going to be in a few year's time. Living in Yorkshire near to the Dales, plenty to look forward to.
This would be brilliant for the meals on wheels runs and food bank shopping deliveries I currently have to do in a car around South Manchester. Sadly I don't have the funds to ever buy one of these, but it looks amazing.
Amazing! at excactley 8:00 there was a brit, riding on the propper side of the road.
Great bike, great review and great work by the volunteers. Fantastic stuff, well done.
That is an amazing bike!!! Need one for my weekly shopping!!!!!!!
i can not think of a single better way to test a cargo bike, helping out others in need, not just loading up with groceries or weights, or not testing it at all just going for a joy ride
I'd love a cargo bike but we have so many of these "forward-reverse" cycle gates to go through on so many cycle lanes that they're actually preventing me from using them.
Nice looking bike, Gates and IGH with the Bosch motor.
That's a greater bike to cross country camping. Lots of storage for camping supplies, or a family picnic ride
Can't wait for the GCN Italia review of a bike called CA GO.
I like the look of that. There is a Bike43 coming to my family soon. It’s not a box cargo bike, but more of a mid-tail family/cargo bike.
This is a really excellent video . Great video and audio and presented in a coherent non
rambling fashion.
Thanks very much
This video has made me happy for so many reasons. The future is here
Take the lid off that box, toss in a big pillow, add that fox Mannon, an ice bucket of Dom Perignon, and take it to the seashore.
This is incredible. This is the future.
Now you gotta so a e-cargo challenge. Have two presenters tasked with buying supplies to build a large doghouse. First person to collect the wood and bring it back to the location wins. Maybe throw a couple obstacles into the mix. Please make this episode lol
I wanted to see both the normal cargo and the trailer combined and see how it would handle all the total weight
Great idea if not for the 6600EUR price tag. Would probably work better with a rental service than actually owning one.
Yes
In Switzerland we have such a service and it's great. I wouldn't like to have to secure such an expensive bike outside as I don't have a way to store it inside.
Great use of a bicycle! GCN should get an award as some areas of Bath and Bristol look pretty ok...
Cheers Lee, we're very lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world
Lots of areas of Bath and Bristol are great!
When I rode a bike in Bristol as a child I dreamed of a button I could press just to get me up the hills. Now it's here!
Cargo bikes for business and cycling commuters is what cycling needs in the UK, it’s the future hopefully
I'm looking forward to the new GCN Channel!
*As in Global Cargo Network*
5:50 I know that City! That's Münster (Germany), where I grew up! :D
Awesome video! I really liked that it featured a bike while also being able to feature an organization helping its community. Only thing I would have done differently would be to have convinced CaGo to donate the bike to their group ;)
Cheers Alexander, that would have been a great way to end the video :)
This is how ads should be done.
10 minutes long? No thanks.
Yeah, better than that Easyjet bit GCN did.
Very nice segment, GCN!
Oh damn. Cago literally means "I shit" in Portuguese.
If parking space for your cargo bike is an issue, check out longtail cargo bikes. They can be parked standing vertically on their rear wheel.
Larry vs Harry eBullitt for the win, been around for years, handle daily life no problem and if the front doesn't have enough space, the motor helps pull a trailer too.
Global Cargobike Network ... seriously, this was a cool and unexpected episode. Well done Hank!
Cheers Gordon!
I love this channel so much. Keep up the good work guys!
Image all the bags of ice and cold beers you could fit in there.
The ultimate long distance, high tech wheelbarrow
7:58 yeah how nice would it be if roundabouts would have arrows which show you the correct driving direction.😂😂😂 And yeah, cargo bikes are awesome.
Superb video. Well done, James. If you'd included one of Sy's missing gardening vignettes it would've been perfect. Or perhaps Nigel adapting one into a lawnmower.
We'll have to get James to learn some more about plants and gardening ;)
@@gcn Perhaps a little removed from gardening, but I remember that during the 60s, Japanese track riders (and track was massive in Japan) were sent to an academy to attain fitness, culture, mediation, tactics etc. And FLOWER ARRANGING was part of the curriculum.
If this still obtains, perhaps you could send a presenter over to attend a course.
Now, which lucky one...........?
I would love one, brilliant for Fishing gear, I've got liars of the stuff to take to the bank
It would be fun to see a cargo bike with a trailer also.
I wish when someone talks about the Bosh motors if they would describe the internal components. Are the gears in the motor plastic or steel? Nice folks delivering the food. Peace, Mo
I’m wondering if I can use one of these to attach my wingfoiling boards to so I can peddle to wing and then back again?
0:19 "perhaps it's an E-cargo bike like this, that's used to transport kids to school" while we view a bike with a large, black, sealed black box glide by. 🤣
you can put two child seats in the box!
kudos on the food effort, that is one of my pet peeves in america
Wheely God level:
An E- cargo bike
Check Ginkgo Bikes' Instagram account! 💪😎🤘
Should do a race where you have to collect certain number of unique items around the city in a time limit using cargo bikes! (like what they do in the Apprentice)
7:58 The workmen are thinking "why is that idiot going the wrong way around the roundabout?"
Good to have a vid where a bike is not whatever percent stiffer and more aero than the previous model. These should get postmen cycling again rather than pushing those trolleys 😂
It might be stiffer and lighter than the previous model Tony 😉 But yes we like the change as well, it's a great bike. Some postal services are using them as well which is fantastic to see.
How weird is this...this came out a minute ago and there’s already a dislike! They haven’t even seen the video!!!! Well... I haven’t seen the video and I’ve liked. It soooo.......
I know, plenty of trolls on here.
Too many KOM hunter MAMILs on this channel.
We shall see if GCN can diversify long term, having failed to pivot to lower tier bike boom during 3 months of work from home during the racing suspension. Hank seems to be the only one that has tried anything bikes for utility during lockdown.
