    man, i have the exact same archicad to illustrator workflow, and just like you said (i'm still at university) - most of the time, i just leave it at illustrator. I do know how to work with PS, but most of the time, i use it afterwards. That's why this was the perfect video for me, because i didn't know all your tricks for the perfect AI/PS combined workflow. Amazing video, as always!

    It would be nice to know if it's possible to re-draw part of the map to propose new city plan concepts. Could this be done by editing the map data files, or in illustrator?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Рік тому +3

      Thanks!!! And yes that's totally possible. In the example I did in the video, I didn't change anything and represented the urban environment as is.
      But this workflow is for a "re-draw" in mind.
      You get that base ready as linework and before exporting the PDF you would do all the changes.
      My approach would be to concentrate any re-draws to the CAD/BIM step, and only style in Illustrator and Photoshop.
      Also, I suggest adding any new proposals to a new layer, so that you can take advantage of this and style it as a category.

Or do you pass the model to sketchup for only lines then to illustrator? The file is so big that when using illustrator on the archicad image the program crashes. Thanks in advance. I am trying to create an urban walking park. I will submit it to the townhall as a proposition as we citizens do not have many choices to move around in our small town. After I make my site plan, the way you have shown. How can I proceed to make some of the surrounding buildings and the park certainly, in 3D? That way I can get print, or create a Presentation Board, where I can present areas of the park, from various viewing angles.

    Iwas wondering, if I want to make a map in Illustrator, that has a scale 1:200. And wish to add a building that has an area 20x30 meters. How can I go about it ?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  11 місяців тому +1

      Although you could draw up-to-scale elements directly in Illustrator, and "do the math" on your head to then input the correct dimension on screen. I always rely on a drafting software CAD or BIM to accurately draw, and then only import that element into Illustrator.
      But... if you need to do that in Illustrator, sometimes I used a real-life scale to confirm what that 20x30 meters building would equal to on paper. For example, draw a 30 meter line on 1:200 and then turn the scale to 1:1 (1:100) and measure that.

      Hey HKL! Have you double checked the line weight of your elements?
      Depending on what color you picked from the pen set, it will have a 0mm thickness.
      But regardless of that, you should be able to unmask all, and apply a new thickness in Illustrator.
      Even though the file might seem invisible, the line paths should still be there.

    Is it possible to just skip the Illustrator and just use Photoshop? Would it be too much work this way?

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Рік тому +1

      Yes, it’s possible! But you’d have to make some compromises and also extra steps:
      1. You’d have to export each category as an individual PDF. So that you could import one at a time into Photoshop to still have them divide into layers.
      2. All the linework would have to be done in your CAD/BIM software. That means that if you only had 1 combined PDF, you’d have a hard time.
      3. The extra creative freedom that Illustrator gives would now be limited to what you can accomplish with a technical software (cad/bim).
      But still that’s totally doable! Just make sure to have a high quality file to begin with. I hope that helps, Peter! 😁

    I don't like how it looks.On the other hand, why does someone always draw a master plan on youtube that has a large body of water? Almost never that I have had to draw one was there water.

    • @LearnUpstairs
      @LearnUpstairs  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for your input Antoniotobarra! That’s totally valid. We all have different tastes. But I was wondering, what would you make differently on the image?
      Personally if I were doing this for a competition, or a real project, I’d be a lot more minimal with the style intensity. Overall, I prefer cleaner and simpler drawings. (You might get a feel over my final thesis boards)
      But unfortunately since I’m posting this to UA-cam, I often make the images a lot more flashy.
      Now regarding the water, I don’t really get it. The method works with or without water. I usually try to include as to show an extra “feature”, and again… to draw more attention.
      As I mentioned during the video, this is just a base, but it should be adapted to each one’s specific needs.

    • @antoniotobarra
      @antoniotobarra Рік тому

      @@LearnUpstairs
      I agree with you. A more sober style is more attractive to me. Maybe it's because of the degree or because of working so many hours with qgis.
      I mention the water thing because the plan tends to be more attractive with it, but since I've seen it so little in practical cases, I find it curious to always see it in this type of video. I'm not just talking about what you do.
