I grew up using just one rod and reel for everything - Zebco 33 or whatever Zebco had. I'm still amazed that there are so many different rods for different fish. I enjoyed watching the video. In Oklahoma I've walked down similar creeks doing the same thing. Next best thing is to watch John walk these beautiful creeks and catch fish.
Zebco 33 is kind of underrated in my opinion. I have the combo from Walmart I use in creeks sometimes over my spinning rods. I’m accurate with it so I get hung up less in creeks and can skip it under low branches and logs in these creeks. It doesn’t cast light lures very well, when it’s time to respool it I may drop down to a lighter line and see if that helps. Of course if I was as accurate as John with a spinner I would just use that for everything 😂.
Man, you can tell John is excited about his new creek fishing rig.
Would love to see more doing micro lite fishing in the creeks it's amazing at the species you catch
I like mono for creek fishing. Sufix. No fussing with leaders. I just make sure I don't overfill the spool and always make sure to close my bail.
Since you are from TN , I’d love to see you do a Charlie Brewer day of fishing.
Only sliders, and you want an all around setup, the Charlie Brewer 4’10” Light rod and 1000 series reel is the do it all !!!
Let’s get a Charlie Brewer day going!!!!
Superb video brother. I like the talking points on the gear. 10 species just wow what a blessing. The BASS Dudes thought I was nuts in 2000 when I fished medium spinning gear only in the media classic and some braid.. Now everybody has a "finesse combo" and the young bucks are putting on clinics. I gave my cousin an older Shimano Clarus 6'3 medium light rod to fish with me in the creeks and he's loving it. Most of mine are 6', light and medium fast that feels more medium light. I took your advice and put leaders on a few with braided line. Found it helps to keep topwater lures from wrapping around the line. Keep exploring John we love it!
I've taken to doing this kinda fishing since finding your channel and I absolutely love it!!! Keep up the good work!!!
I was rooting for a shiner at the end when you only needed 1 more to make 10. John, you never disappoint. Keep these videos coming!
You are always a blessing to my day!
I've been working on my lightweight creek setup for a while now, and really like your approach, I am using 10 lb suffix 832 braid and 4 lb mono leader with a 1000 Okuma spinning reel and two different rods, an old light medium action Eagle claw 6 ft, and a 5'6" Okuma UL fast rod.
10 species, unbelievable!
I use a real compact creek setup. 5’6 light rod with the smallest Lews bait caster I could find. Creeks here in south Ms are pretty congested and u gotta pull off some trick casts at times. Especially in a kayak. Also the shorter rod don’t stick outta the front of my kayak to get hung on limbs and break when I have to set it tween my legs and do some evasive paddlin. Easy to skip under bushes and into tight holes with the low profile.
This is one of the best creek fishing vids I have ever seen. I like the idea of an exploring setup for new creeks. But best really is the amount of different species, that shows the productivity of these small creeks and their ecologic potential. Greets from germany
P.s.: might also be a nice idea for a tournament to get as many species as you can with one setup.
That's pretty much one of the most enjoyable videos I have seen in a long time, awesome set up.
I grew up and learned small water fishing with Ugly Sticks and Mitchell/Garcia 300 reels. I have found rods that I like better, but the new Mitchell 310 and 308 are still my go-tos. Most of my tackle is a result of your videos. Appreciate what you do.
Great creek to fish. Such a cool place. Congrats on 10 species!
I love the way you enjoy catching whatever is biting. Way to go. Ten species in a day is a lot in freshwater.
I love my Orange crush Lew's 3000 reel, but I wish I had one smaller to pair with a Ultra light rod. The Okuma Stratus VI 1000 I got for my UL setup is great but heavier. Great looking fishing Man! BTW I rode my Bicycle across TN 10 years ago, and remember coming down off the Plateau... What a long downhill!
Looks like a great combo on that new roof and reel. Many species today. That's awesome. Keep up the great vids and good luck on the next tourney you get in. God bless you and keep you safe.
New rod...
My all around favorite setup for wading creeks is a 13 fishing Defy Silver Light weight fast action 6 1/2 ft . I paired that with a Pflueger President Spinning reel 25 size. 6 lb test Mr. Crappie in camo color. Gotta love catching numbers like this. 👊👍
These are the best days. Love the rod also. Gj brother.
Great video with all the different fish. nice discussion of the new rod and reel. thanks for the video John.
Those bellows worms look like total fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥
What a variety. Another awesome video buddy. Keep up all the good work 👍🏼👍🏼
What a day! Home court advantage and it looks like you choose a rod and reel combo that works well for your kayak fishing. Thanks for the adventure.
Perfect video as I LOVE the small creek wade style fishing!!
With just a flick of your wrist you set the hook on those fish with your new rod setup great multi species video can't wait for your next video
I always love your content, and the verses at the ends of all your videos are great.
Looks like a good place for crappie nibbles Jon!!!!
I think this is the first time I’ve seen you use a Joe’s fly. In my opinion, one the greatest lures for small fish. And dynamite for trout! Loved seeing you back in a creek! That’s for the video.
yeah i need to use it more
The rod setup looks fresh 😎
My guess as to why you caught a lot on your way back was moving upstream typically gives you more of a sneak attack approach than moving downstream. Idk maybe that helped “wake the fish up” because they hadn’t noticed the water disturbance of you headed their way.
That was very cool. You did a great job catching all those different fish. Enjoy your channel.
Pretty fish John. Its hard to beat the varity of fish in creeks. God bless you and your family....🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀
That's what I call a fishing day 10 species felt like I was there with you your hook settings are unbelievable you don't miss many I know myself 🤠 I probably would have missed half of them That's the kind of fishing I love just small streams and never know what you going to catch Great video John
We're going to get some 80°, weather up here next week hopefully it won't rain for a while Crick's in pretty good shape Hope I can catch 10 species
plenty of misses got cut out, haha
I love my tackle bag I bought from Academy last year. That is another nice clear creek your fishing.
It seems to be loaded with different fish. That is a nice custom rod.
What a great way to test out the new rod combo.
I don't think it could have gone any better for you on the rod's maiden voyage.
It looked like it loaded up really well on the slightly bigger fish, and had no problem handling multiple fish for the day.
The size and weight of your new setup seemed very comfortable and you would have no problem throwing it all day.
Can't wait to see how it holds up on your next Kayak tournament.
Your a expert caster my brother. Never disappointed in your videos.
I used to hook into 4-6 pound drum all the time when I was fishing White Oak Creek in Houston county. Very fun. If you haven't fished White Oak I highly recommend it
just been there once, plan to go back
Have you tried out any Tennessee Handle rods? The kind with no preset place for the reel. Just a solid handle. You tape the reel on to the rod. If you haven't, I suggest trying them out. You place the reel where it feels best for you. The sensitivity and comfort go up 10 fold. No one makes them anymore that I could find. Had to buy mine on marketplace. So it's either have one custom made or buy an older one. The older ones are amazing. I have a 5 and half foot med lite that was made by Browning. It's the best all purpose rod I have ever used. Just wanted to suggest trying that type of handle. I enjoy your videos. Great job.
Didn't there used to be a straight cork handled rod with two loose metal rings to seat your reel wherever?
i have seen them but havent tried yet
@@tenncutt Yes. They did make those too. Take the two rings off and you have yourself a TN style rod. I had a couple of those tho and really liked them as well.
@@CreekFishingAdventures pick one up when you see them again. We'll worth it. Just a suggestion for ya.
Nice combo setup for exploring! Interesting creek walk for 10 (could have been 13) species. That rod handled all lure sizes that you used really well. New favorite setup for multiple situations !?! I always enjoy your adventures. Always be safe. Randy B.
John, you got me back into fishing last year with your videos. I'm always waiting on the next vid and hope to catch you on one of these Chatt creeks one day. Keep it up
I really enjoy your video. So relax and realistic. I also love your scripture sharing. Great help! Thanks.
I love these, I appreciate the lite fishing
1500 Johnny Morris carbonlite has been my work horse for my crappie rod, smooth smooth drag, and very light
Amazing looking creek 👌 😍
The Daiwa BG 1500 is an excellent reel in that size! Have been using/abusing mine so much and I love it (Plus it looks really pretty)
I use a Calcutta conquest bfs with a 6ft medium light kast king perigee II.....it came with a medium and a medium light. But the conquest bfs reel is capable of throwing pretty much a fly to medium/large baits. It’s an incredible reel. And these kast king perigee II rods are the best value for the money
I love my carbonlite reel on a medium to light even for black bass fishing. Cannot beat the finesse lures sometimes
I have a 6’5 g loomis med light and I have caught 4 pounds bass on it! It’s great for creeks! It will become your favorite creek rod for sure, I use Shimano Ci4+ 1000 size on mine
Love spotted sunfish. I have them in the 2 streams that cross my property and I catch them out of most of the streams I fish here in NW Georgia. Probably the least common sunfish I see right after the longear sunfish. When I find them they tend to be clustered in small pockets but fairly feisty for their size.
its interesting to me how some streams have mainly 1 type of sunfish and another can have a different but be very close
Definitely my kinda fish'n. Great video.
Another great video!
I am really starting to get jealous of where you live, the fishing here in Northern Va is just awful in general.
You seem to have dozens of places crawling with fish, most of our waters are polluted and heavily pressured with few catchable fish.
I need to drive out an hour+ to rural areas to find fishing like you seem to have everywhere.
I spent all day Tuesday on a super pressured local lake in my OT 120 and got zero bites.
That lake has LM, Walleye, sunfish, catfish, and Snakeheads.
I will keep at it though!
Great looking set up for sure for that type of fishing. Great video sir 🤝🏼
Definitely one of the things I love about fishing some of these small streams here in NW Georgia. Never know what you are going to catch. I have caught 16 different species out of 1 of the 2 streams that cross my property.
thats crazy
Great video man I fish in a little creek that is a little bit smaller than the one that you were fishing in and it has green sunfish, hybrid sunfish, bluegills, orange spotted sunfish and spotted bass and smallmouth bass and I have caught them all
Awesome adventure with a lot of species.
Apartment living no boats aloud. So I bank fish most of the time. Using 8 to 12 lb test. Works for me.
I got to fish one the creeks I've been looking at. Didn't have much time but I did catch some Rock Bass. Really enjoyed your video and I liked your set up
You are awesome dude! Would love to hit a new fishing spot with you in our Old Towns. I'm in Southern Missouri (New to the area) and always looking for someone to fish with.
Hey John , Lovin' the videos ! keep up the good work, they're very inspirational ...
Nothing wrong with showing how with right combo of better rod and reel success improves but for new fans with limited funds could you make a retro video using cheaper equipment combo adventure? I love All your content!! Learning a lot, especially Scripture!! Just suggestion not critical honestly!! God Bless!!!
My setup is a size 25 pflueger president XT on a 5’6” eagle claw featherlite pole with 4lb SOS trout line and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It’s a cheap pole but I’m telling y’all, it is an AMAZING ultralight. That pflueger/EC featherlight is pure love. Pole is $25 at my local hardware store and I’d pay 4x that for another one if I had too.
Well this is another one for the books books, you are doing a great job and you never disappoint in your videos. I'm using a medium light Abu Garcia rod with a 2000 series gander Gander Mountain real( Before they came gander outdoors).
That's wild all those types in creeks...
Nice! I caught 6 species in my local creek today.
thats solid
Wow 10 species is a lot good job
So you have the John Dalton Creek Fishing Combo. Good job
i really like acc crappie stick this last month ive caught 2 big carp a 20 inch hybrid stripper and a channle cat on it no problem with 6lb nano braid and the 1000 vanford reel
I’ve always waded up stream .. interesting
i cant get access to start from downstream
U called it, could be 10 species day !!! Nice job !!!!
Man, great video..I felt like a kid again
Hey John. Love your vids!!!!!!
I was watching that rod and how it loaded, it looked really good for an all around creak rod. I’ll be waiting for your further reviews on it. Maybe you could start marketing them if it continues to work well for you. I’d be interested in it.
Stump Knocker. Now that's something I haven't even heard of.
You are mastering your craft John, fun to watch! This was a GREAT video. 2 questions - how do you so quickly differentiate between a Spotted Bass vs. a Largemouth, AND... what's your 'go to' knot when going braid to fluoro?
i see them a lot and can tell, i use the uni knot for joining line
Spotted bass have a line of spots in their middle and spotted basses jaw lines line up with their eye
Largies don’t have a line and they are dark and their jaw goes past their eye
I got all of the species in my local lake yesterday. Different size gulp minnows.
Awesome video!
Careful with the carbon lites there's a lip on the inside spool that line loves to get caught up on. I personally would go up to the signature series, they don't have that lip. I have two of them and love them.
Great thanks 👌
One of my favorite fish to catch are warmouths unfortunately where I live they don't get very big
Wow wasn’t expecting a crappie either
Creeks are on fire right now in KY as well.
here we go back to kids again...lol... i love it...
I’ve got the same bag I use for creek wading.
I just got the new light weight fast 6'4" panfish series from st croix. I feel like it's going to be my new creek rod. You might give it a try.
oh that sounds good
Great informative video. If you carried a rod and reel combo for every situation you'd probably need around 15 different combos...LOL. Are you using the E-bike very much? If not and ya wanna make a little extra cash....I could be interested. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day.
not too much, might want to sell it in the future
try that Joes Fly next time you hit Tellico. Its money there
13th!! lol........Now thats a good fishing trip!!!
I use that same bag.
Can you explain the best way to rig the hellgrammite?
Just found your channel. Great videos. I love those Uncle Joe's flies. Can't beat them. Do you use any weight with yours? Keep the great videos coming.
no just as they are
That was kinda nuts how many species you caught ha.
I just bought a Piscifun Serpent 6'8'' medium light with a Viper X and I can't wait to try it out Friday! Anyone know what line I should get? Also, do you use swivels?
thats a great set up, i like using 10 lb braid or 6 lb flourocorbon
@@CreekFishingAdventures I ended up getting 8 lb fluorocarbon but braid is next
How does it compare to the Lew’s Xfinity XJ combo from Walmart for $50? 6.2 ratio, XSJ-10 reel and 6’ medium light-fast IM7 pole? I fish very similar to you and like good combos like you for catching 10-12 species on. Good video
yeah thats a good setup, but the quality of this is much more noticeable
Great creek video! What hook so you usually use for hellgrammite?
zman bulet z hook
Man, I fish a 6’6” ML in my videos but a 6’3” ML is what I’m going to try next, I feel like that’d be the perfect size. 2000 size reel and 10lb braid or 6-8lb mono.
I need someone to talk me out of getting a 6’3” ML St. Croix Avid and a 2000 Shimano Vanford 😂
any recommendations on how to retrieve the bobby garlands
slow with slight twitches like a darting minnow
2:22 if you think this is a good bluegill then you should see the bluegill in my granny's pond they get to where you can barely wrap a hand around them and they've been reproducing there for like idk 20 maybe more years since my granny and pepau dug the pond
3:21 is what i meant
Sweet day! How many hrs did u fish?
3 or 4 i think
My 11 year old caught his PB Largemouth today at a local park lake, 4.5 pounds
nice
