I did 5 hours on my r1 yesterday.
Needed to clear my head so I just headed north. I met a few Harley bros along the way. I road with them and they were cool dudes. Almost made it to Georgia before I turned around.
That is a good way to ride.

No, but it was freaky. It went completely black and an awesome clear view of the eclipse. Did you?
Yo it was so beautiful cruising in nc. Didn't go full but the Temp was 72 and the light level was about 40%
@@CycleCruza I still had my glasses from the 2017 eclipse & watched it. We weren’t in the path of total darkness in St. Louis, but it did look slightly darker & there was a strange calmness. When I saw Cleveland Ohio was right in the path, I though of Cyclecruza.
I have a KLX 300sm and love it. But I can see myself moving to this bike in a year or 2.
Love your videos man, I grew up in Rocky River and started riding in Glenwood springs CO. I’m returning back to Cleveland in September, looking forward to see you on the road on my MT-07!!

Wish KTM made a 390 supermoto or Yamaha mt-07 supermoto even a KLX400 would be awesome with the ninja 400 engine ,wish we had more options but I’m getting a KLX300sm
KLX300sm is really nice, enjoy!
It tops out at around 90mph depending on your weight. But it is like a scalpel in tight curves. That is where the KLX shines.
I almost got a klx300sm but decided to go with a new DRZ400SM, very happy with it!

I got a 2024. Probably would have got a drz 400 because it's so much cheaper. That way I wouldn't be afraid of abusing it.

Great stater bike! I don’t believe in wasting money, buy what you want. JUST RESPECT THE POWER!I STARTED ON A 2002 Yamaha R1 supermoto’s are easy AF. Dirt bikes are torque BEASTS
leaving tc and abs on would be ok for a novice but probably not a beginner. seat hight would definitely be intimidating to anyone under 6ft or no dirt background. so tempted to pick one up on sale from 2023 so i can do more dirt than my 990. the ducati seems pretty sweet but not at AU prices.

There is no perfect tire for everything but the Shinko are bulletproof and I love them.
So basically, if you’re new and you’re trying to start on one of these, you gotta exercise some discipline with the throttle, right? At least while you’re learning and getting use to the bike.
Yeah but a new rider is not too skilled at throttle control yet. It really pays to start small and work your way up.
@@CycleCruza I gotcha. You gotta start on something smaller and less powerful to learn those skills safely before going to the bikes with more power.
Any bike should be respected as a new rider . Now myself I learned on a 2001 Super Glide . Anyone can learn if you take your time . And yes, Cycle Cruza, you're right on relearning how to ride off rode . Bike leans, but we stay somewhat vertical while the bike dances underneath ya ! That was the hardest thing for me to overcome . Now I'm wheeling over higher obstacles jumping logs . Just learn how to power slide through your turns . Learn to pop your front up so your flow is better over objects . I only have a 1990 DR350s, and I can keep up with the 400s all day long . The bike is only 20% of the ride . It's the rider that takes the other 80% of the ride .

Cycle Cruza. Be real careful going off road with that. I had the 701sm. I rolled over a rock in my yard and cracked the motor. Insurance covered it but I had to learn the hard way to get a skid plate. Get a skid plate man!!
Dang! I have a skid plate to put on it. Also, I'm waiting for my shinko 705 tires before I mess around off-road. Tons of mods coming...stay tuned for the new build series.
That new Ducati 690 looks so nice, but I noticed the seat height is very tall. Also it is a new model and I understand there are some part issues too.
35 inch seat height. I love this bike...so far...
If you're thinking about going on a cross country trip on this bike, be careful about parking it outside. Lightweight bikes are easy for two men to pick up and put in the back of truck. This scenario happened at some apartments I lived at, where the dude always parked it in open parking. I saw the police come out to get the report from the victim and his look of sadness/frustration. The stolen bike was a Honda CBR600RR, so actually heavier than your KTM. So, for the long cross country rides, there's an argument to be made for heavier touring bikes, which would take more ppl to lift and steal (lowering the odds of it being stolen).

Getting my bike license this summer. I plan to start on a super moto or dual sport.
This one was on my radar.
We get trained on 500cc bike since you have to do the road and closed course circuit on a 401cc or more.
Just pulled the trigger a month ago. I've learned a few things. First bike; go used. Something cheap. Then in 6 months go get a 650. If you're older then go get the bike you drool over. Please please please start on a 450 or less.
@thefallen7273 gotta do the exam on a bike over 400. (Not usa). The bike my school uses are rebel 500 and cbr 500.
So ill probly get a bike in the 600cc range.
(Did the smaller deal thing with my euc and e-skateboard and i want to avoid that. Just gonna buy a bike i want. I dont mind about dropping etc and ill be used to 500cc)

@pucknhusker9426 I just bought a center stand,but i currently have 2 bad knees,I wanted to service the chain ended up using my sportbike stand on the axel sliders,Hopefully my knees will be better in the future
@@skatman3872 I feel ya with the knee pain, ive a bad neck off and on and when i do i cant manage my center stand. Seems a lot of people are selling there road bikes for sumos. Ive thought about up sizing but my DRZ does me well and has for many years. Would love a 690 for the longer trips but the DR takes it like a champ. My only vehicle and im 45yo lol. @pucknhusker9426 I was going to get the 690 but too expensive, im thinking of 890 superduke, i have an aprilia rf, bmws1000rr, gsxr1000, can't really ride the aprilia now knee wont bend that far,im glad i got the drz400sm, im thinking pipe and jet kit supposed to run better
Ok, CC I get why you got this bike I'm sold on it.
I had to for a number of reasons, it serves so many purposes and is a sick bike. Tonos of mods coming, all new black plastics with custom decals, new handguards with integrated turn signals, TST Industries fender eliminator with intergrated turn signals, FULL leo Vince black exhaust, PC6, LE headlight, COmfort seat, new tires and muc much more, build series is coming!
Please do a video on single cylinders with high cc eg 640cc vs multiple cylinders with low cc eg v twin 250cc or honda cb400
Only supermoto eperience I have is on the Zero Fxe loaner i had. Talk about fast 😮. No offroad though. Used to mountain bike a bit, trailing on quad once.
How did you like that Zero?
@@CycleCruza The Fxe was awesome. Smaller of their battery packs, but largest that bike can take 7.2 though. Range real riding probably only get 70 miles. For someone riding only hour or short commute it is plenty. Longer rides have to knock on a friendly door ask to borrow a plug lol. It was real comfortable and handled great. The Fx is taller more off road. Dsx now supposed to be the dual sport. Dsx can get big battery. Dont quote me but Fx is about 11k Fxe 12 or 13, Dsx like 15+. I have some videos if look in playlist. May be in Zero S playlist too.
I'm glad you like it, I have a 21 smcr. I would recommend a Graves slipon muffler, rotweiler airfilter ,power comander and a fuel dongle.....you will thank me later😊....
Did you mess with the airbox? I hear it is not worth it. I have a full leo vince exhaust coming and will get a fuel dongle and PC6. All new plastics and custom decals, luthoum battery, new tires and much much more. This bike will be fire when I'm done.
@@CycleCruza yes, I bought the Rottweiler air intake. Much better air flow and it's an oil bath type. I purchased it from Rottweiler performance.....excellent service too

Ive owned 5 bikes and had the chance to drive 12 bikes long term(not mine). The most fun i had on a supermoto. Im going to sell my MT-09 SP for a KTM 690. Cheers !
Best bike for everyone (or a 701, Gas Gas, Beta or whatever else it's branded as) But perhaps the Enduro is better.
That KTM is a beast. Definitely not for a noob. Like you said dual sport or super moto makes a good starter bike. Dirt bikes are a good place to start too. I started on a Suzuki RM125 bored out to 150cc. That was plenty of bike for me when I was 13 at 5’3 then. I started using one foot with that bike.
interesting. guess it depends on the country. I learned and did the first motorcycle exam on a yamaha fz6n. Then my first bike was a 1200 bandit. That was the cheapest available option for me. I'm 6'2 and 110kg. It was a terrible bike for riding to work in traffic jams, so I switched to a fz6n, but I'm looking for something lighter and nicer :)
@@marcellsimon2129 I wanted a Yamaha FZ6, but never bought one. A Bandit 1200 is a hefty bike to start on. You did well though. You’re still here. To get my Cycle endorsement I took my test on a 1987 Honda Rebel 250.

I have Mutants on my 390 Duke and love them. Great in wet conditions.

@@CycleCruza I don’t ride off road but as an all weather tire, I like them more than the Pirelli Corso tires I had before the Mutants. I was stuck riding last week in the snow and I was confident in the Mutants for sure.
@CycleCruza ya you are correct. For the tat the shinkos would probably give you a bit more confidence in the mud. But any review I've seen of the mutants from forums and UA-cam has been awesome. Fortnine features them in a couple of their tire vids.

My 701 was my second bike after 3 years on my starter (CBR500R). I would agree the 690/701 is not a starter. Great as a second bike or later though.

This (well the 701 enduro) was my idea for a first bike. Got a Ducati 848 instead then traded that in for a Hypermotard 1100SP and finally got the 701 and it's perfect. In hindsight I would have chosen a 250 dual sport for a first bike, but listened to the idiots telling me to get a liter bike and "grow into it"

It’s hard to say since I’ve never ridden the 690. Guys would talk about the KTM 500 like it was going to yank my arms out of the sockets so I was a little concerned about that. It wasn’t the case though. The power is there but with a little respect to the throttle I find it to be pretty forgiving. There’s one thing about these premium bikes though. If you start out on one it’s really hard to appreciate how much nicer it is to have features like a buttery soft hydraulic clutch, drive by wire throttle (you may disagree), good disc brakes, better/adjustable suspension, etc…
Any bike I ride for the first time, I start off slow till I get a feel for the bike and get used to the cockpit and go home in one piece ?
have you checked for any choke points in the exhaust or carbs. Might be wise to delete some of those restrictions if you can. I know the gasgas has one.

My first bike was a 2016 KTM 690 Enduro R. To be honest, it was a great choice.

Welcome to an exclusive "club"! Was waiting at a corner Sheetz store to check the air in my tires and, when it was my turn, I was halfway off the bike before realizing that I had forgotten to put my kickstand down. At that point, the bike had just moved past the balance point but I was not in a position to stop it, only slow it down. Slowest fall EVER and I was laughing as I realized what was coming! Naturally, it was super crowded but I was able to wiggle out and get the bike back up without too much embarrassment... 🤣🤣🤣

I'm a 100% streets. I will never be oof road cuz it'll lead to riding in the woods where the werewolves home base are. I rode on a street that was backwoods surrounding at night one time and was chased down with a pack of werewolves on my little 300cc cb300f. I like werewolf and didn't mind to become of the pack, but that night seeing how there's a pack looking like their more hungry. I think my 380Ib fat arse wouldn't survive the werewolves attack so I decided to gun it and try to outrun the pack of werewolves. Barely made it and survived. That's why meow I don't ride at night and oof roading.

No, this 690 is for everything....supermoto, dualsport riding, touring, ADV , cruising, it can do a little bit of everything. Tons of mods coming,,,you will see and huge transformation.

It's not a good beginners bike, throttle response is too snappy.
Beginners should ride something with a little bit more forgiving clutch and brakes.
Sure a beginner could ride it, but it's far from optimal.
Also it might be a bit tall. Unless you are very talented and/or tall you should stay away from this bike as a beginner.
For a new rider with 0 experience and has never taken a MSF course then I'd say no way I'd recommend someone start on this bike. Having no throttle control, I'd guarantee you with the first 10 mins on a bike like this a noob rider would hit whiskey throttle and wheelie right into a car, tree, power pole or just bout anything. If you rode dirt bikes growing up and you've taken the MSF course you should be able to skip to something like a 650cc bike. As long as you don't go crazy street Rossi on your first time riding on the streets you'll be fine. But for most beginners I'd say start on a Ninja 400, Z400, MT03, CBR400/500 as their proven reliable and cheap to own and fix.
I agree 💯 KLX300sm (or ds) and DRZ400sm (or ds) and WR250R are great options too. I think the supermotos and dual sports are the best to start on because they can take a beating from a new rider and they are super cheap to fix and insure.
Wait until you uncork it. I've been yelling at you for years to buy this bike. My liter bike has been collecting dust since I got my 701. My wife has an Aprilia Dorsoduro... looks like Ducati just stole the Dorsoduro and threw a single cylinder in it. The plagerism couldn't be more obvious.

Sorry to keep being the negative guy. This bike isn't very interesting at all. It's not fun to look at. The sound is pretty dull and the performance is meh. I think this was an impulse purchase you will get bored with. I bet you have twice the fun on your YZ. You should just unload it before it depreciates too much. I don't see how you can justify dumping even more cash into that expensive bike. Glad you didn't get a cruiser or a Harley though.
This bike is fun as heck, faster than my YZ BUT my YZ has better bottom end grunt but this 690 smokes it on the top end. The YZ is just a different animal, these are two very different supermotos, great in different ways. You ain't seen nothing yet tho. I got fire mods coming up fro the 690. Full leo Vince exhaust, all new black pastics with sick custom decal set, PC6, handguards with integrated turn signals and mirrors, etc, etc. trust me, I love this bike no bs. I feel invigorated with this bike and impressed with KTM performance. This is a unicorn bike.
@@CycleCruza one of the best things i love about is that supermotos aren't head turners at all cuz most people just think their dirtbikes lol. but the fun on them is through the roof. Love my 690 enduro with 17 inch sumo slicks!!!
