Just love this man. People should learn to stand up for themselves otherwise, this slavery would just continue. Well done, interviewer and interviewee!
This is another wonderful interview from this Uncle Sikiru Adepoju. I could vividly observe that the from the beginning of his life, he has a great vision of what he wants to do. He had experienced poverty from the great grandfather who was a talking drummer to the level of his father. He had spoken on how his mother treated his father as a lazy man but his grandmother fought his mother standstill. He didn't take nonsense from the beginning and with prayers, he is worldwidely recognized with the Grammy award twice. Thank you so much Mr Adeyanju and your team. There is a lesson needs to be learned. I will suggest that Mr Agbaletu should also create an avenue to put the name of your crews on every of your production as a sort of honor and recognition. The elderly says "Ile law ti may n Kom eso low sode". God bless you richly and your crews. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
What he's saying makes a lot of sense. Some here believe he's arrogant, but he's been very real & honest. His exposure & stay abroad completely changed his perspectives. Abroad musicians work as independent contractors (freelancers) and are free to work with anyone as pleases.
He's actually a very modest man. He hardly speaks but very thoughtful. I know him very well and I know his kids. He is one of the most compassionate person I've dealt with. I first met him in Oakland CA.
Thanks for interviewing Baba Adepoju again.I took special interest to talking drummers influence in bands after the first interview you had with him. This is another great expository....E ma pe fun wa Baba.
@agbaletu Kindly do an interview with Baba David Olaleye mentioned in the interview.(same process like this). He spent a long time with the Inter Reformers band. Thanks
Sikiru Adepoju may not be highly lettered but he is highly intelligent, highly diplomatic and of an amiable personality. I respect his conversational skills.
@ SK gave arguably the best and the most candid / eye opening interview of all former band partners of any Juju musician bar none that have been interviewed by Agbaletu. Alhaji Raski Aladokun follows him closely. He told everything as he experienced them without denigrating, or doing a campaign of calumny against anyone. His understanding of his role as a professional drummer / artiste and his laser focus on what he desired to achieve all those years ago (and even now) is what ALL drummers and band partners in NGR need to emulate, if they want to free themselves from subjugation and enslavement by their so called band leaders. SK gave so many nuggets of wisdom and clues to any of them who cares to listen and take heed. As I always say, "Success leaves clues". SK has certainly left notable clues here. It is for them to mirro and model, if they too want to be free and successful. I love SK's laser focus. Bless you, Mr SK Adepoju. More grease to your elbow, Odidi Omo. Or should I say, Odidi Baba! Iro ni Elegan npa, on your matter.
Just a correction. The song you're referencing in "mo ti ki eniyan titi, mo ki ....." is Motewo mi soke. Then , It wasn't about people spraying Obey too much money, it is because they accused Obey of stealing the star of anybody he praising. Rumour had it that if he praises you in his songs, a disaster is going to happen to your finances. That's why he came out with that record to dispute the rumour
This is the way things should go now in the music industry. Any show should write the cheques in the name of all the members not in the name of band leaders because it is a collective work. I agree with this man in its entirety.
Good job once again Agbaman. Kudos to you. Your genuine dedication, hardwork and determination is paying off and it’ll generally liberate people. You are the voice for the voiceless. I love Mr. Sikiru Adepoju for his straight forwardness and honesty. He’s a direct straight shooter and a goal getter. I’m in total support of his suggestions to better the percussionist situations. Professionals must be treated as professionals irrespective of our cultural beliefs and practices. “Working for”, is different from “Working with”…. The Singers are working “with” the Drummers to produce music. Professionals working with professionals, not the other way round. Keep up the good work Àgbàlẹtù. Baba, Im a diehard KSA fan till tomorrow. He wasnt saying that KSA party are not rocky. HE said Obey was making more money from parties in the 70s and maybe early 80s than KSA, cos Obey focus more on the ijinle people. Talking about abroad concerts, KSA made more money than any musician of his generation in Nigeria on abroad concerts, cos KSA was doing very big shows and was using more of white promoters, not local based. He wasnt talking about concerts, he was talking about regular Yoruba owambe. KSA ruled Nigeria music scene from late 70s till mid 1990s as the no1 artist, and nobody came close, not even Fela. It was after Fela died in 1997, that he got his own recognition. Till tomorrow, KSA had the most participated music album in Nigeria history when he did 'Nigeria yii ti gbogbo wa ni' in 1995. More than 30 wellknown artists participated in that album accross the entire country. Nobidy has broken that record yet in Nigeria.
@@blessingajisafe6915 you are absolutely accurate, KSA have distance himself from others when it comes to music, many people never understood what music entails, stage performance alone took forty percent, beats took thirty percent, song took twenty percentage, while outfit took ten percent, KSA used stage, beats, and outfit to outline Ebenezer obey completely, KSA continue to move ahead in music,

Does anybody know the worth of N150 every month in 1983? With N500 on every record given to you as a drummer, I don't think this man is fair enough. What was the salary of a junior lecturer then? How I wish to hear from his band members how he treats them. More often than not, this armchair critic could be worse than the people they critized. I value his achievement as a Nigerian, but his attitude left a lot to be imagined. I am sure he can't take what he is dishing out to Chief (Prof) Ebenezer Obey.
By 1983, N150 for an average Nigerian wasn't a big deal because of hyperinflation. As a 22 years old young man and a bachelor, I was paying N40 per month as rent for a room at Ketu-Alapere then. Take that from N150, and other costs of living to it, even without been a family man then, you couldn't get to save anything from that N150 as an income per month.
This fellow is just too arrogant, for what? so because you won a fucking Grammy? Look at Obey, as wealthy as he is and all his reservations about Fatai Rolling Dollar, he always refer back to Rolling Dollar with a lot of respect. Look at Sunny, Sunny will respect a day old child. This bush one is just fucking rude.

Hello Agba'man,
try to make use of the word 'contemporary' rather than rival; so not to sound as though you promote rivary.

In 1983, i was earning ₦300 Naira a month. It is poverty salary. As a woman, i live from hand to mouth
But he didn’t play his dues. He only spent 3 years. That means he was a junior staff. He is so biased. He deserved guys like kwam 1
