  • Prudent mariners take nothing for granted. They prepare for emergencies by conducting frequent emergency drills.
Beating the Odds: Onboard Emergency Drills demonstrates not only what is required for U.S. commercial fishing vessel drills, but also how to conduct drills and what to look for in post-drill debriefings.
This video is divided into sections. It can be stopped and each drill conducted before going on to the next section:
    1. Introduction
    2. Safety Orientation & Instructions
    3. How to Conduct an Effective Drill
    4. Fire Drill
    5. Man Overboard Drill
    6. Flooding Drill
    7. Abandon Ship Drill
    8. Summary
This video is useful for experienced drill conductors seeking to reinforce or refresh their skills, as well as those inexperienced in conducting drills aboard fishing vessels. It is also useful in other maritime industries. This video does not take the place of an actual drill.
Produced by Ellen Frankenstein for Alaska Marine Safety Education Association with funding provided by the U.S. Coast Guard.
