Ive seen this happen quite often, especially in the club/rave scene. Even before i got into the VRC raves, trolls or regular folk who were scared of furries would sometimes stick around and just vibe with our friend groups. Some of them get involved in the fandom and delving in fully, some still sitting on the edge but atleast more accepting. Most folks need to understand that we are normal people, we just have hobbies you dont understand, and we wanna express ourselves in our own ways that may come off as weird or cringe.
I mean honestly most of it comes from a vast misunderstanding because of all the pornographic material out there, which there is only so much of because there are very few ways to communicate a thing that doesn't exist IRL in a consumable way. They just don't get that it's an entire culture; which encompasses everything in various ways for furries from music, video, art, dress, all the way to yeah, even adult material. Just like any culture really. Sadly some folks get hung up on that one thing and never look past it, and some just need some brief exposure to actually get that.
@@sociallyresponsiblexenomor7608 many seem keen on the 18+ stuff i play a ton of fortnite (where many sexualphobic and furry haters are) for some strange reason many people in party royale often ask me if im gay or a furry i ofcourse answer yes since im both (and yes im using a furry skin all i require is fishstick, demogorgon and xenomorph to complete my collection of owning all male furry skins) i had it that many furry haters (or gay haters or even both) were trying to be rude to me only for me to calmly show them that fortnite supports it and usally they stick around me see that im not doing 18+ stuff like furries are depicted and suddenly become chill with me or its straight up just people asking out of curiosity and being happy with finding someone who is gay/a furry
....happened to me too if I'm honest. Joined a furry world for a joke and out of curiosity, they were super wholesome and nice and... well... I kept coming back to it. Honestly? I don't regret it.
I don't mind going to Furry worlds either, but I legit don't have much interest in being one. VRChat is a place where anyone can be whatever they want to be. Don't see a problem with that in game. Even if I wanted to be a furry none of the avatars I've seen appeal to my taste. They all fall under very similar styles

Reminds me of a story one of my friends told me about when they met someone at a music festival. Them: "so are you a furry?" My friend: "I mean, yes, but why?" Them: "you said you played VRchat"
That's totally me back in 2021! At first i was like: "What are these fluffy creatures in every place i step my foot around?" and 1 month into VRchat i started "blend in" and, well..... Start to like this "Rexouium" avatar. Friends tried to pull me in into the typical "eboy/egirl" side, but i didn't liked how they looked so i stick with furry ones. No regrets, just thankful that i got accepted as an "normie" in the small groups between folks from "lgbtq" so big shoutout to them for helping me to open myself truly, haha.
I really tried to like human avatars, but I knew straight away I'm gonna go furry. I was not unfamiliar with the fandom, but never considered myself as one. I'm hanging with one hand at the edge of the rabbit hole. But in all seriousness I feel there are many weird ones, but also genuinely good people. Some of the most caring persons

i did that once to one of those annoying spammers you get in open furry worlds like furry talk and chill , came in using every insult in the book for me. some how got him into a normal conversation . then he added me. and within 3 weeks he had a furry avatar. fun stuff
I miss jumping into VRChat and VR in general, my controllers were heavily drifted and my VRHeadset strap broke (the piece holding the strap was literally a tiny hard plastic part), I wish I didn't bought the RIFT S, now I see why they where removed from the market... Can't wait to get a job and buy new ones...
I've been personally responsible for converting over 100 XD. It's always funny when they try to make excuses for themselves why it's cool while talking to me or others... some actually even became popifurs which they don't talk to me anymore. :(

Most of my life I always would flip-flop between saying whether or not I was a furry. 9/10 my closest friends were always furry (even though I never had anything related to furries on my profile, and never talked about them). However, there was enough distractions from playing a video game or something else for me to fully commit to being furry Then comes in VRC. Picked Midnight Lycanroc trying to be something recognizable, but kinda edgy because I was attempting to be edgy, and totally not a furry. Fooling absolutely nobody but myself. I would then get over anxiety from all the good experiences, and just had tons of furry friends that knew me well. Furries have always been the easiest to hangout with to do random fun & interesting things, and to have nice in-depth conversations about life to help solve the problems of life. I didn't choose the furry life, the furry life chose me =p
It's a good thing I don't have money for vrchat, because I won't be a furry which means I'll be straight and have no fetishes P. S. I know the game is free, I'm talking about expensive gaming equipment

It started with a furry friend seeing I was good at server moderation, I moderated a server on google+ (I’m 23 next week yes that’s old) and I started to talk to the furry mods and become friendly and make a fursona just to let them see my drawing skills… fast forward 10 years now I’m a fusky transforming kitsune god that can fit in with 1 tail but actually has 3 and can turn into a city and/or world devouring god… yes the v word furries enjoy

VRChat is fun, for so many wrong reason. I came back to see a how it had evolved and the first thing I run into was a Mickey Mouse with a gun saying "Fu**ing furry I will shoot you" and I had to explain that dressing up like a mouse walking as a human is almost same thing as use a furry avatar, they then say something like "but this is not a furry avatar". Then I try to say "it is so and once a furry always a furry, it is like you can not just test to have gay sex without being a little bit into it, and then you selected a mouse avatar, you are a little bit of furry". After that they often say something as "Ni***r" and run of, or just run off the troll someone else. Fun video btw, it is kinda cute.
