  • A set of turned doorstops. They are glued up from a few cherry and walnut leftovers.
    I turn them on the lathe and cut them up at the band saw. I've tested them out. They do in fact stop doors...

    They came out larger than I was at first expecting. I really like that. It would be perfect for the back door of my home which never stays open on its own. Currently a large rock is used.

    This seems like a good project to do as a gift for a wood working teacher at a school

    Watched for the Epoxy video. Subscribed for the woodworking. Great job, Peter.

    "Turn"ed out good.
    Next round, try offsetting the wood, so it runs at an angle. That puts the handles at more of an angle [up]. You get some nice effects. Test drive it with a 2x6 scrap first. You can also pre-cut the rough shape, which will, greatly, reduce the vibration.

    I like how when you speed up part of the video, you don't speed up the audio. It's a weird, but really cool effect!

      The turned handles really set the piece off. I have another question for you man. I live in Sonoma County so I am dying to know where to get those gun stock cut offs? Can you help a Wine Country brother out, LOL?

    Sorry to laugh at your misfortune, but when you were sanding then got your finger and said "don't do that" it made me chuckle but then I really lost it when you did it a second time and said the second time wasn't any better then the first. Been there, done that. Have a good one.

    They are the biggest door stops/wedges I've ever seen how big is the gap between the floor and the door to need such big ones there cool but a little bit over kill.

    There's practically no way to have this sort of thing taught to you outside of the internet these days.
    I say that after watching half your channel in 2 days ._.

    Zero exp. with a lathe - for a corner like that I'd use a sanding sponge but not sure it would be fool proof.

    why do you use the planes at an angle and not straight on. if you put a little table salt on glue it won't slide around

    • @peterbrownwastaken
      @peterbrownwastaken  8 років тому +5

      +August Wagner You get a better cut that way! I read an article a while back from a glue manufacture that this can mess with the bond. If I'm turning it at 1800RPM i want a tight bond! :)
