This is the instrument that people wanted the Jupiter-80 to be--a full panel of analog controls and all of Roland's vintage sounds, but with digital reliability and some sampled sounds (like pianos) available. It doesn't have the layering or some of the power of the Jupiter-80, but if you want a virtual analog poly synth with new and vintage sounds, it's probably the best choice. And the price is not out of line--especially compared to a Moog One or Solaris.
The only reason I didn't buy this is the constant complaints I read about the UI, being more difficult than the new Fantom series (which I own, and find absolutely ridiculous.)
I love the old Jup8 but some people have gone beyond insane, asking the price of a Tesla for them and if you run out of luck, by the time you get home, the 40 year old electronics break and you're done. This new digital Jup sounds awesome imo. It looks awesome too. I'd rather have the new one please. Thanks for the demo.
This is without question for me, one of the best sounding synths I have ever played. A bit of a learning curve when learning the structuring of scenes but well worth a few hours of prodding around and a bit of manual thumbing. The biggest problem I have is, which synths to sell to make space because it's bloomin' massive!
Ha, firstly, thanks my DD for the kind comment and for watching mate. Secondly, you're so right, I didn't play anywhere near enough dank minor Trap/Drill riffs....next time my G!! X
My goodness, Jack. You really nailed patch 2! Did you listen to the patches before you made the video, or is this the first time you've heard them? Because it seems you always pick the right playing style for the tone. Either way, well done!
Kwaping, thanks so much for the kind comment, very much appreciated. I really am flying by the seat of my pants in these videos and make sure that I don't play or the keyboards until the camera is rolling. That first second is risky business when flicking to a new patch for suret. It's in an effort to give the perspective what it would be like to walk up to one in the shop and flick through some presets, means I don't have to fake any reactions too. Thanks again for stopping by, wishing you all the bestest X
FANTOM doesn't yet support Models/ABM synths, but underlying ZEN-Core engine is the same. JUPITER has i-arpeggio that is not on FANTOM. FANTOM has V-Piano and SuperNATURAL sounds that JUPITER does not have.
@@BrandonRyan That was to the point, thank you very much. ABM is a new term for me, but that was what I was mainly interested in. I have checked Roland's official page, and they confirm your statements. If I want to use sounds of Roland analog synths such as the 80s Jupiter and Junos on Fantom, is it reproduced using Supernatural technology? If so, do you see that ABM does a better job with it? I understand that ABM emulates all kinds of aspect of an analog circuit, but do you see it as an major advantage over Fantom and worth of a price? I would like to get a keyboard that is a workstation as Fantom is, but am mainly interested in sound of the Roland 80s keyboards (without buying analog). I am sorry if this was too long, thank you.
Is It easy to shape your own near analog sounds? I’m more on the Detroit Techno side of things musically, but I like to inject the classic synth sounds with a bit of wonky ness.
Beautiful sounds and play ! Is it possible to change the records in front of Jack please. Change the Rick Astley by "Aliens ate my Buick" by Thomas Dolby for example ! :-)
Some have hated on the heavy aftertouch, and I have a very good feeling about it, as I am a ham-fisted ape who hates how easy most are to accidentally trigger. Different strokes.
That's about my only complaint. Sure the parameters can be set from 0-100 but the biggest jump in sensitivity is from 0 to 1, and then it's marginal from 1-100. Overall this packs a huge punch for the price.
Three years on, and I'm still overall happy with it, with a few complaints. The overall ease of "nearly immediately being able to find very thick, useable sounds in a live setting or just to try out a new idea in my head" is VERY much the strong suit of this board. The only issues I've had have been the analog pots becoming unstable and which after cleaning, are the typical modern pots which even fader safe deoxit strips the grease out and they feel like they're worth 0.01 cents. I don't appreciate that kind of cost cutting on a piece of gear in this price range. The clicky buttons to navigate the menus and shift octaves have to be pressed harder and harder to get a response now. No excuse for that in only 3 years on a nearly $3K instrument. I still am overall happy with it, and won't be selling it, but I still feel like it's an overpriced modern Roland.@@BinuralOdyssey
Forgive my ignorance first!!!! I have a Roland Fa-06 with over 3000 or more sounds with all the expansion packs etc so I have lots of those sounds already. Also the Fa has the dials as well for live control and costs a whole lot less.... But having said that, I suppose there is a huge advantage in this Jupiter as you have all those from the Fa and all the live controls as well.... And there are more things as well... What in you opinion are the differences and advantages of each one and the Roland System 8 etc?
i'm a little lost in the sauce: i've watched all the andertons vids where Jack plays the Jupiter X. in this vid, he seems to enjoy playing it and likes the overall synth. in that unboxing vid, it seemed like he hated it for it's style of dialing/programming
Ok here’s my question. I see all of the records you got on the table but why oh WHY do you now have Duran Duran’s RIO album there? Nick Rhodes practically used the the Jupiter 8 on the whole album.
no its not wavestate is better it depends on what you want really if you like 90s analog and a fight trying to get anything that resembles a modern 21st century synth then i would get one if ya want something that rocks and inspire you to play and make some music rather then having a fight with ya gear then get a wavestate its a lot more in depth but the results are top notch theres a few things that are annoying about the wavestate and wave sequencing can be and is confusing and a couple of other annoyances but its the best synth of 2020 the wavestate hydra did win but thats only because the analog guys are still in a small majority but for 2500 i'd steer clear mate if ya got that kind of money get a kronos or a montage and ave yaself the dissapointment of having this

The soundtrack to the 80’s. Brings back memories of when i had a Jupiter 8.

Gosh. Ever owned a JP80? Killer keyboard well worthy of the Jupiter name.
Holy shit, the patches gave me GOOSEBUMPS. I NEED THIS SYNTH
What a great sounding Synth, and Jack’s reviews just keep getting better. :)
My life would be empty without this synth.
I Like how the oscillators stay defined and un-muddied when chords are played.

Good to see they found some NOS of the vintage Roland AT sensor
AK, the buggers that needs the weight of 4 landwhales to get some expression going 😆
I really enjoy the emotions when you play lol I wish more guys involved in music were just as fun, makes it wayyy less intimidating.

Very nice genX... Enjoy it!
Same here. It sounds great to me. I see comments saying it sounds awful and I'm like what are you smoking lol
Mrs won't allow purchase and neither will bank balance 😅
Did I tell you I hate you?
Beautiful instrument!Amazing possibilities
Sounds great!
Patch 5 in the key of F sounded lush
It sounds amazing but there again, Jack could make an out-of-tune brick sound good! I wish I had the spare cash to buy one.
i paid extra to have my house built with tuned bricks. my chimney absolutely sings!
Jon man, thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to watch and commemt mate. Me too (cash that is)!! Xx
@@notarealperson87 tsaid type to it rr
the only thing I don't love about mine is how hard I have to press for after touch.. I feel like im going to bust the keys. (its set to 100%)
What’s the synth age/temp settings you have on the JP?

Patch 2- every 80s movie love theme ever..., Patch 3 "With a little heart and soul....."

Is this running through an external effects unit applying additional reverb? Doesn't sound as thin as some of the other reviews of factory presets.
#3 is the vibe
I’ve been kinda disappointed with Roland recently, but this synth seems pretty awesome tbh.
Some of these presets have a lot of delay. Without delay it sounds quite analog. This and a v synth will be an amazing combo ...
Sounds very "Roland"... Like it
A question - is Fantom capable of producing every sound Jupiter X is? Sonic vise, is there a point of getting both of them?
