I have been contemplating buying a Mariposa 60L pack and a Vagabond 23L pack from Gossamer Gear as I continue to search for the best kit. I have lots and lots of gear, only some of which I have reviewed on my new and growing UA-cam Channel. Bungzy's Ultralight channel really loves Gossamer Gear products so I am thinking of giving you guys a go. A very useful and incredibly practical gear load out video, but for the love of trail Glen... don’t you have enough industry connections to score a discounted 3/4 length neoair??? 😂 That Benadryl dehydrates your body making it that much more difficult to remain hydrated. Love the vid and GG!
You're the first person I've seen mention the blue shop towels! If you don't use them for T.P., but as a napkin, sweat wipe, hanky, or something else, they can be washed out and reused many times. They even go through the washer and dryer very well at home. You haven't lived until you've used a machine washed and dried shop towel as T.P. or a hanky!! They are super-soft after being laundered. I keep at least three in my pack at all times (or one per day if I'm going out more than three days). They are a very useful item that doesn't get very many mentions on UA-cam. If you're the type of person that cuts a bandana in half, then I'd forego the bandana and just take an extra shop towel to wipe down your face, tent, or tarp or do other small bandana-y things with. This isn't the type of gear review you'd want to do on a windy day! If you did, your pack would weigh even less after you repacked what didn't blow away. 🤣 Nice setup. I like a lot of the things you've packed in there. There are definitely a few new ideas I might end up adopting. I was adding up my sleep system weight alone and it came to about five and a half pounds for a hammock and bugnet with quilts to get me to 20°F very comfortably under a lightweight tarp. I figure if I can stay under ten pounds and be good to 20° then I'm doing okay. I need to weigh all my non-shelter stuff and see where that stands. I know I need a lighter bag, but I'm waiting to see what the final size of my kit is before I decide on the appropriate bag. Just two winters ago I couldn't fit a 20° setup into my one big winter bag. I spent over a month out in the snow at 9000 feet in the early spring because I lived in a ski town that was horribly affected by the lack of housing due to online short-term rentals by homeowners. There was nowhere affordable to stay anymore so I went into the woods. I stayed warm, but I was using two cheap sleeping bags and a sleep pad inside my hammock all underneath a cheap, heavy tarp. I have learned a lot about going lighter and less bulky since then. My whole new setup is less than a month's rent in a ski town. There's a certain amount of freedom knowing I can comfortably sleep anywhere almost any time of year. ...I'm working my way to a -40°F comfort rating! 😁 Then I'll be set year-round!! 🥶
I love the sleep bag with the fabric bottom, always wanted one like that- my synthetic bag is huge and dreadfully heavy, the size of your whole pack,( very wet heavy storms here)
Check out the brand Timmermade! It is a small one-man-show cottage company that makes some incredible gear. And will do just about any custom item possible! He was one of the first major false-bottom bag makers and really knows what he is doing. I have a quilt from him and absolutely love it! I def recommend checking that out if you are still interested!
We actually sold them briefly, many many years ago. We paid Nunatak $390 and sold them for $400... not a sustainable business model! But we're finally looking into it, and may be close to bringing them back.
Wonder if that is still the sleeping bag we made for you some 15 years ago? We called it the Catabatic, before that name got trademarked by a newcomer on the scene, lol.
as a Canadian I am trying to imagine the mild dry calm warm weather and stable ground conditions that would allow this and I have a hard time imagining it
He obviously has much more experience than me, but my father taught mountain climbing in the army in WW II. Extreme minimalism can bite you if something goes wrong.

You've got much more experience than I do in the outdoors it sounds like! I like the pre-used and washed shop towel idea, I'll use that!

Tom made me two custom bags, a 30 deg and 20 deg version. You later had a model that was close, but not exactly the same. Still using those bags!
