Great video, Matt! My wife & I started doing 30 day challenges back in 2017 as a fun way to improve both our lives and our relationship. Some of our monthly challenges included: paleo/Whole30, no TV, no alcohol, saying 3 things we are grateful for each day, reading out loud together every day, spending at least 10 minutes outside every day, etc. I highly recommend 30 day challenges to anyone who wants to learn self-discipline. Plus, that first real donut after 30 days of paleo is absolutely orgasmic.
@@klutz3955 We're not strict about all the habits after the 30 days, but we are now more mindful and aware after the challenges which helps us move toward better habits. For example, we still eat sugar but we do it sparingly after giving it up for 30 days. We still drink alcohol but we are intentional about how much & how frequently we consume it. We read more. We try to exercise more. So yes the challenges do end up being a habit, just not as strict as it was during the 30 days.

Hi, great habits you built here ! Just wanted to let you know, I used to love drinking fruit juice several times a day, but apparently they're too concentrated in sugar, so the recommended amount would only be 1 glass a day. Though you can eat more plain fruits ! Good luck on improving your English you're doing great x
I've picked up daily journaling to create more structure and awareness in my mind and thinking. I become so much more aware of things keeping my mind occupied. It also gets easier to focus on other goals and to decide if something is worth pursuing. I absolute encourage everyone who feels overwhelmed or lost to do the same. Thanks you Matt for your great content!
just made a list of 7 things to do for the rest of the year (already started my first thrity day challenge a month ago) 1. digital minimalsim 2. cold showers 3. exercising daily 4. quit all added sugars 5. digital minimalism (again so hopefully i get to focus more on school that month) 6. waking up at 6 am 7. meditating daily i tried to start with something easyier (i just finished digital minimalism but after that) and tried to build it up to things more difficult so i stay motivated trough out the process. wish me luck!
@@karinowens7750 it is completely up to you, if you feel like you want to go extreme and find your food in alternative ways, you can do that. But I think most people don't include groceries in this challenge. There's no "right" way to do this, it's up to you to decide what you won't buy.
@@karinowens7750 Simple answer, no. You need to eat obviously. But I would say a healthy habit to pick up would be to be more mindful about the foods you do buy. Like buying less snack foods or packaged beverages and only buying healthy foods for meals.
One year ago, I watched the first *helpful* video on UA-cam, it was yours. And I was thinking *like everyone else* to be a better person for myself and have a better life.. and I can say now that I did, you’re the first reason why I changed, I started being active, healthy, minimalist and organized person! Everything you say seems very important for me and I will always be grateful for you.
my habit started 2 years ago. I was 210lbs in 7th grade and extremely depressed. 2 years ago January 21st i said i want to make change. I didn’t know what change was, but i knew i wanted it. I started by cutting out all junk food, then i started walking 8,000 steps a day. I lost the weight but i wasn’t happy, i still had self image issues and i fell into anorexia. I was 120lbs, 20lbs under the normal. I kept on loosing weight and then i looked at myself in the mirror and saw my rib cage and once again i saw that i needed change. I started by adding a little bit of food. I got to a point where i was finally in a healthy area but i was still unconfident. And once again i strived for change. I then pushed my self to do some sort of exercise. I have been doing that for the past 9 months now and I am finally confident in my body. It’s been hell these past 2 years but they have been the best 2 years in my life. Showing myself that i can achieve anything if i wanted to make that change. And anyone can. You just need to be committed to this change. And like Matt said it’s hard, it’s really hard. But just do small intervals and build up from there. I promise you you will have a sense of achievements do fulfillment like no other. I’m going to stop where i am, and I hope all of you have an amazing day❤️
Hey! I just wanted to tell you that that was such an awesome thing to read! Keep the good work up! Also, I'd love to have the determination like you have to do what I really want with my life! Go! You can do it! I support you! :)
Great insights from someone so young :) I'm happy for you. I'm in my late 20s and still struggling with that sense of agency and self-discipline in my life.
I didn't use any form of Social media in November and I did drinking 2L of water challenge in December. This January I am doing no dwelling on negative thoughts challenge :)
Hi, can you share 'how no dwelling on negative thoughts' challenge? Because for some reason in life I had to avoiding myself priority for almost 12 years... and because of that I'm fall into depression, built up with bad habits and lost myself/confidence to live....
Hey! The challenge is that when a negative thought arises, you say to yourself that in the next 90 seconds I will dwell and try to eliminate the negative thought in 90 seconds only. And after that 90 seconds you should NOT even care about the negative thought! By doing this often you will develop resistance to negative thoughts :) Please be free to ask any questions :) @@flaxenRdn
I love that you said "Quit social media" on Jan 23, 2018, I deleted my Instagram for good. Prior to that, I had deleted (Not deacviated) facebook, snapchat, kik, and marco polo. As of Jan 23, 2019, I will be one-year social media. My life has honestly changed in ways that I can not describe. As of now, I think that the most useless thing that I have in my daily carry is my phone...I think that (And I am not kidding) a flip phone is in my future. We'll see.
Yep ur not the only one. The only thing I do is surf UA-cam watching vids but other than that I don't do facebook (I'll only use the messenger person), Snapchat, Instagram cuz I don't need so many apps/social media to distract and suck up all my time. I intentionally pick out what I find enjoyable and worth my time. If I catch myself doing my negative behavior of comparison like I did on Instagram or from my Facebook feed I get off of it but that's why I don't go on those specific apps anymore lol. The key is intentionality ;)
My progress(?) hahaha. - exercise everyday ( woah not daily but I do minimum 4x a week if I'm not sick) ✔️ eat more veggies ✔️ read everyday ( well actually not everyday, I read 1 book a month. Not self help books though) ✔️ drink lots of water ✔️ stop buying stuff - meditate (walking up. Used headspace) - morning/ night routine (this seems hard haha) - passion project (I'll definitely try this) ✔️de clutter (kinda started with wardrobe, then some of the cabinets but still needs work) - journal - wake up early ( it's hard waking up early when you have an irregular work sched and night shifts) ✔️ quit social media *ill update this if I can find this once I've built up a new habit that is on this list.
Nice! For the record I don't exercise everyday. I have in the past when building up the habit so that's just a suggestion for getting started. I usually take 1 or 2 days off a week.
Ky, I have also stopped buying stuff and decluttering for the 100th time. It's so freeing to know I'm not going to fill that space back up. I doing the One Year No Spend Challenge. So far, it's been a complete relief. I also gave up potato chips...that lasted until Jan 8th. Who knew that would be harder than not shopping? Great list and I'm going to add reading in am & pm and drinking lots of water.
Matt D'Avella not as fit as you though haha i mean no where near. Still have a lot of baby fats i just cant seem to get rid of them in my belly section hahaha.
Channel has been amazing! Started hitting the gym again, getting into reading, and eliminating all the extra distractions. My life feels much more satisfying as I progress through each day. I would recommend to all viewers who haven't to read 'The Miracle Morning,' as it is a great way to start your morning and feel productive from the time you wake up until your work day begins! Everyone deserves a happy and healthy life, why shouldn't we also deserve to be productive and learn while we do so? To all I wish the best of luck!
I developed a habbit of ironing a shirt every morning before work and really try put myself into while I am doing this. I wear only black shirts so I don't have to choose which one which is also cool. This really helps me to be more mindfull in morning and feels like I have a moment for myself. Just after girl leaves and before I leave I have this quiet morning me-only time when I play some morning jazz radio from UA-cam and say to myself - just chill it's - gonna be a great day - finish my tea and ready to face the day. And by the way I used to hate ironing, it's all programing your mind you know

@@calebharris4127 lol thanks for asking! I feel way better already and i sleep much better. Both have become a habit but not a routine, i don't force myself to excersise if i don't feel like it(i have bad allergy in springtime, almost impossible to be outside). Overall it was worth it, now i feel like i have the energy to get out of my bed in the morning.
i was dealing with really bad depression as well and making the routine of going for a long walk (10km) every morning in nature and a second one in the evening really pulled me out of my whole!!! (used to get up at 7pm, took a bath for hours and cried at night) so these walks basicially were saving me in the beginning😅
You are one of my favorite UA-camrs. I think it is because you enjoy to push yourself and that is something i strive to do. Thank you Matt D'Avella! You're great!
I love the way that you give advice, and completely dismiss the idea of inspiration, and completely overhauling your life. It’s near impossible. You have shown me that a step by step process is how you lead to concrete change in your daily life. And most of all, I appreciate that this advice is not coming from a mega successful entrepreneur that is 110% efficient, and instead from someone who was introduced to self improvement, of which i can really empathise more with your experiences.
The self-help dance sequence was the most relatable thing I’ve seen in my whole life, and I feel personally attacked. (Brilliant video as always! Can’t wait to see the 30 day challenges you have in store!)
"Inspiration does not correlate to change. Being inspired and motivated doesn't mean you'll actually gonna change your life." I LOVE THIS MAN. Subscribed!!!!
I gave up all my healthy habits after 1 week and honestly, I feel really happy. Not happy that I quit it, but I just feel happier because I feel like I’m being myself and I feel more comfortable and human. I still take cold showers everyday though because that started helping my skin really fast so I definitely suggest that. I don’t live super unhealthy or anything I’m just comfortable how I am.
I understand how u feel ..but it's actually good to work on improving yourself from time to time .. start by doing one habit..Only one habit at a time or maybe two.. When you feel like u got used to it ..you can start doing other habits .. Because doing them all at once .. You'll stop doing them all at once , too. Have a great day !
I picked up waking up early last year, and it is a game changer. I find I am over-all more pleasant because I give time, to give myself time. I usually use the early hours to drink coffee in silence, light a candle, and read/journal/pray etc. 10/10
Can you talk more about how early wake up changed your game? Also, how can you keep waking up early without skipping days? Do you get to work late at night?
@@AdrianDanielGuard Totally. For me, I work a full-time 9-5, and spend a lot of personal time volunteering with my local church. I choose to wake up at 5a each day so I have some time to myself. Typically that looks like making coffee, grabbing a blanket, and journaling, reading, or play video games. The motivator for me to wake up early is so I have time to do what I want, before I go out and give the better part of my day to my employer, wife, church, and friends. At first I started working out in the mornings, but was much less stressed throughout the day if I just spent the time in quiet, zoning out. (so I workout after work I do not skip a day M-F. I sleep-in till about 8 or 9 at the latest on weekends. Some great books on in the importance of slowing down life are out there too. I recommend The Little Book of Hyyge. It changed my life.
My 12 habits I plan on doing starting tomorrow 1. Quit social media 2. Quit caffeine and sugar 3. Wake up early 4. Cold showers 5. Cook meals 6. Workout 7. Stop buying stuff 8. Study a topic 9. Create art or something 10. Write down in journal feelings thoughts etc. 11. Be in the moment be myself 12. Read Bible before bed
@Marvin Hernandez Yea but this is good, finally a conversation without feelings on yt comments. As far as i know, are there really any good evidence for a existing god? Because i believe in science and i need proofs to believe in something :>

My goal by the end of the year: implement all 12 changes into my life slowly for the next year. FYI cold showers are AMAZING!! ive been doing them for the past month and a half and its an amazing goal for everybody!
@@raelindashoates975 Some benefits that i have noticed are MUCH better focus, more self determination as it takes a lot of balls to wake up every morning jump into a freezing cold shower, but the second you step out you feel amazing and warm which is kinda weird. There are many health benefits as well as u can see by watching videos or looking at studies. honestly try taking one for 30 sec just being in the cold water, ur gonna breathe super fast which is ok as it wakes me up but then step out and you will know what i mean. Just Trust Me...
The most influential audio series i have EVER listened to is “The psychology of Achievement”n by Brian Tracy. Got me through some pretty rough times in my life!
Thanks Matt, this is really helpful. For this past one year I have been so engrossed with my work until up to the point that I never talk to my old friends, family, going out, have time for myself and got a proper sleep. I used to run but I stop because 1 hour of sleep is so valuable to me. I got caught up with projects, deadlines, demanding clients and it’s painful for me to say that I pretty much married to my job. At just 23, I felt ancient. Your video helps me a lot!
Think of a habit you want to create, and write it down. Next, think of your cue. Now, think of your reward. Finally, remember to make sure the reward is something you’ll be able to crave or anticipate as you create this new habit.
Cold showers are the best, I'm probably one of the few people I know who would happily exchange a warm shower for a cold one. In my opinion as a specialist, baths should be for those longs sessions of pampering, with warm water with all those fancy things to massage, soothe and such, while showering should be quick, efficient and refreshingly cold, to get you going through the day and then when back home, quickly ready to sleep at night. Few things are better than taking a freezing shower, putting on your most comfortable pjs, then cuddling under some warm blankets... oh, and this waking up early + morning routine thing would CHANGE MY LIFE if I actually got to stick with those habits... Why is it so hard!!! I need more tips (just realized it's 3am rn, that's probably why it's hard to wake up at 5 :v)
Hahaha yeah that might be your problem. You might need to start with a night time routine. After being in Sydney over New Years I can confirm it's very hard to shift your schedule & wake up early. I've been snoozing in the mornings for an hour from 6 to 7am. Eventually I'll work my way to 6am but I'm like a zombie when the alarm rings.
@@kathleen6288 Warm showers are great if you're feeling tense or sore, but cold showers actually pump up your immune system (even preventing colds), make you more energetic, speed up your metabolism, and much more. Where I live we have both really hot and really cold days, and I actually found easier to take the cold showers during colder days, specially in the beginning, because you feel less of a temperature shock!! Hope I helped :)
I have mixed feelings about cold showers. I took cold showers every day for about 20 days a couple years ago. I noticed my skin and hair was much smoother and more hydrated, which was good, and I also felt warmer than I normally would, like I had a little glow from within going on. But as a woman, I question whether it's the best idea to take cold showers before/during menstruation. When I was younger I wouldn't pay attention enough and would forget to keep warm in the days before my period. If I had to be stuck in a cold classroom or cold weather before my period, BAM. First day or two of my period would be living hell--cramps so bad I couldn't move, fainting, vomiting, so much pain I literally could not even bear to sit up in bed to take a painkiller. I would get up to go to the bathroom and then just lay there on the floor until I gathered the energy to crawl back to my bed. Now I make sure to wrap up, wear thick socks, carry a jacket and all that as preventative measures. So I'm wondering, would cold showers be a threat to my ovaries or nah? 😂
I don't mind the corniness of self help content. It serves as a hope to me when another person tells me there are simple things and changes in life that can help me. The hope is everything.

I think I'm addicted to your videos and podcasts, and I don't want to quit this addiction.
just made a list of 7 things to do for the rest of the year (already started my first thrity day challenge a month ago)
1. digital minimalsim
2. cold showers
3. exercising daily
4. quit all added sugars
5. digital minimalism (again so hopefully i get to focus more on school that month)
6. waking up at 6 am
7. meditating daily
i tried to start with something easyier (i just finished digital minimalism but after that) and tried to build it up to things more difficult so i stay motivated trough out the process.
wish me luck!

Wow I'd be out running in the rain all the time if I knew I'd get a drive-by compliment from Matt!
my habit started 2 years ago.

We'll see.
Cool! I wish i can do like you
Yep ur not the only one. ✔️ read everyday ( well actually not everyday, I read 1 book a month. Not self help books though)
✔️ drink lots of water

- morning/ night routine (this seems hard haha)
- passion project (I'll definitely try this)
✔️de clutter (kinda started with wardrobe, then some of the cabinets but still needs work)
- journal
- wake up early ( it's hard waking up early when you have an irregular work sched and night shifts)
✔️ quit social media

I love the way that you give advice, and completely dismiss the idea of inspiration, and completely overhauling your life. It’s near impossible. You have shown me that a step by step process is how you lead to concrete change in your daily life. And most of all, I appreciate that this advice is not coming from a mega successful entrepreneur that is 110% efficient, and instead from someone who was introduced to self improvement, of which i can really empathise more with your experiences.

One quote that stuck with me from one of your podcasts.. "make it so easy, it's embarrassing, ei: working out"
I gave up all my healthy habits after 1 week and honestly, I feel really happy.

Thrilled to see you here Justine. I am an your avid "watcher" 😂
I need more tips
(just realized it's 3am rn, that's probably why it's hard to wake up at 5 :v)
Hahaha yeah that might be your problem. You might need to start with a night time routine.
After being in Sydney over New Years I can confirm it's very hard to shift your schedule & wake up early. I've been snoozing in the mornings for an hour from 6 to 7am. Eventually I'll work my way to 6am but I'm like a zombie when the alarm rings.
Reggie K,
Please tell me what is so great about cold showers. Do you live in a place with warm weather all year?
@@kathleen6288 Warm showers are great if you're feeling tense or sore, but cold showers actually pump up your immune system (even preventing colds), make you more energetic, speed up your metabolism, and much more.
Where I live we have both really hot and really cold days, and I actually found easier to take the cold showers during colder days, specially in the beginning, because you feel less of a temperature shock!!
Hope I helped :)
They're also great for your hair and skin.

Dude you should put ads,you make great quality content, it's not that bad actually to watch a 5-10 seconds ad before watching a video
I discover your channel yesterday, and I already love it. The photography, the visuals are just perfect, and over all the content is really interesting and useful. Keep on doing it please.
