My father is a great fan of Alphaville, so I grew up listening to their songs. This one was one of my favourites when I was 8/9, very underrated.

Alphaville was at the peak of their powers with this track. Unless you came across this band somehow in the mid 80's, you really missed a great band. Steve Masters, the DJ of Live105 in San Francisco brought this band to light in Northern California in the mid to late eighties with his Saturday night "Master's Mix show. He had all of the extended mix's which were so great at the time. He would go on buying trips to Europe to find these great bands.
It is great that someone made them reach the US in the 80s. In the 90s and later, they already made live tours there.

@Neusa Paixão I think I read a comment from a Brasilian person that they came to Brasil but faced some issues at the hotel - were robbed and on top of that accused and arrested. They were left without any help. After that, they said they'd never go to Brasil anymore. But I don't know if this is a true or not, it was what I read.

The song is not underrated, it seems that back in those days Alphaville did not have the support from WEA or Atlantic to reach the same level as other artists did, back in the 80's the record labels were all about money and the next hit. Alphaville is about music and Marian wanted to record his music his way it seems the labels were not happy. Regardless of the charts he is a great singer and a talented composer.
Yea, its kind of weird that only their first album was a big shit commercially. Their subsequent records are great aswell.

Red Rose! One of Alphaville's all time great songs! I think I like the single-music video version of the song with the bluesy piano opening even better than the album version!
Agreed. The piano intro is a very nice touch. They should have used this mix on the album, rather than waiting to put it on "Dreamscapes."

But why didn't they do an afternoons in utopia live tour in 1986 or 1987?
It was an only a directed videoclip-recording in Budapest, without any audience. (Source: hungarian newspaper from 1987.)
:( be sure if they toured in time between 84-89 they could be one the big band like PSB and DM with their uniq energy. İ saw them first in 1995 with a line up not much synthpop but more rock'n roll..and after the concert, they played in a small live club and they played a rock'n roll set list with many covers..
