"Is this from Shrek?" had me absolutely dying 😂
Besides, that Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" song is from every gay bar... ever.
Obviously whoever chose these has a preference for particular artists. But these are ALL great
Definitely a personal preference list.
Although musical tastes are subjective, it's also a mistake to say that it's only a subjective and personal preference list.
They are important songs of their time that over the years have repeatedly appeared as great classics, supported by critics and the public. And they have become emblems or insignia.
You NEED to listen to the full versions of these songs, on your own time and then revisit this video with new opinions. These are INCREDIBLE songs.
Edit* I’m SORRY! You don’t know Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World?! Ohhhhh, you are missing OUT
Hurt was released in 1995. It was a Nine Inch Nails song. Johnny Cash covered it in 2002. He was an active artist from 1954-2003.
And because I’m sure it will come up lol Simon and Garfunkel’s Sound of Silence came out in 1964 and Disturbed’s cover came out in 2015.
You just need to listen to all of these!
He knows Fortunate Son, it is too many movies to have never heard it.
Well, that was subjective 😁😁😂😂🤣🤣
Nope its the definitive top 100 songs of all time. Everyone is just going to have to accept it.
@@ImOutOfMtDew 😂
Music is a form of art of course its subjective
No shit lol
@@ImOutOfMtDew how is it definitive? Like the Beatles were popular in 1960 when the world population was 3 billion. Now the world population is 8 billion. The only reason this list has so many ancient songs is because they were the first to do stuff. It's not because they were good.
I guess I am privileged to have listened to music from most genres and generations. I was born in the 70's and I can go all the way back to the 20's and know a lot of the songs. I started with your 90's reaction and went backwards. Out of the lot there was maybe 5 I di not completely know! I look forward to the next one!
Of all the songs they could pick for #1 they went with Yesterday? I wouldn’t even put it as a top 5 Beatles song much less top song of all time.
Of all the songs you didn;t know, Losing My Religion might be most surprising to me. Not in my playlists, but it was unavoidable all my life it feels like. Same with Satsifaction
I was playing heads up once and no one else knew the song 🤦
R.E.M. is legendary
Ive watched a bunch of these to try and expand my music taste, and i must say, you probably chose the most different and SUPER opinionated one I've ever seen 💀💀 Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven should be number 1 & 2 on a decent list. I LOVE Yesterday, but that isnt even the the best Beatles songs 💀
When bohemian rhapsody was number two I was like well stairway to heaven will be number one, boy was I wrong with this person's biased opinion lol
@@erinmineo830 so after seeing Stairway at #4 you still thought it would be #1
I can't wait for you to react to more songs Thurston! I will be screaming how do you not know this artist. Like CCR! :-) Whitney Houston released her version of "I will always love you" in 1992. Dolly Parton wrote the song and released her original in1974.
Jeff Buckley is definitely not an actor today. He passed away in 1997.
Wasn't this a cover of a Leonard Cohen song?
@@stillhuntre55 Correct.
The Beatles are my favorite musical act of all time but even I don’t agree with Yesterday being number one. A Day in the Life would make more sense.
Exactly.
My kids - 18, 20, 23 - know most of these songs. I was thinking, "How can this guy not know so many of these songs" (including 70a 80a 90z) and "Is he younger than I think he is?" But I've always got music going, and I listen to a little of everything, no matter the year or genre. My kids will randomly start singing 50s songs, lol
Whoever made this list definitely has some favorites. I don't know that I'd have more than 1 or 2 Beatles songs on my top 100 list of all time, definitely not close to my top 100 personal favorites
Yeah, too Beatles heavy, especially at the top end.
@@Fridge56Vet makes sense though after all they are the best band of all time
It isn't so much about how well the songs have lasted, as how much they influenced music and their times. In that light the Beatles are monsters, not just because of how many records they sold, but because they changed music forever. I'll agree that the sound of The Beatles is pretty tired these days, played out (though most of their lyrics remain good poetry), but you can still make a strong case for most of their included songs in this list as highly influential.
No, it would be utterly subjective and inaccurate if there was only one or two Beatles songs, as most of these wouldn’t exist without all or almost their songs.
@@willcool713 that’s your opinion that they’re “pretty tired, played out” because YOU are tired of the origins of almost all modern music but that’s not the case, and I’m hardly a major Beatles fan, just a fact
Purple Rain not being top 10 is criminal
Agreed
Guitar Hero helped repopularize it lol
Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" was a disco era anthem and while it may have been in a movie, was not originally.
Gay bars. Thurston needs to frequent more gay bars. There he would hear "I Will Survive" until he knows all the words by heart. :):)
Clearly any list like this is very subjective. For me, Bill Withers needed a spot on here somewhere. Ain't No Sunshine or Lean On Me could've been in a top 100.
Who compiled this?! 😂 I think we were all in the same boat by the end. Where's the girls? Where's ELO, where's Winehouse, where's ABBA, why Oasis?!? Where's The Bee Gees? So many questions. .. and so much BIG HAIR! 😂😅😂😅
Most people don't know that "Every Breath You Take" by the Police is not a love song, it is about a stalker.
Notorious B.I. G. made it but no Otis Redding? Where is Louis Armstrong? Etta James? John Denver? And the entire Country genre was omitted (I don’t think Johnny Cash covering a non-country song counts) along with anything outside mainstream like Enya (as an example). This was definitely a list of great songs but I can’t agree it’s top 100 of all time. It was quite biased to certain groups.
Even so, please do more music! ❤
Louis Armstrong was on 36. Johnny Cash's Walk The Line was on 59.
Oasis in the top 10? 🙄 Oh my days!
Dolly Parton wrote "I Will Always Love You" in 1973 and she also recorded it that year. Her version will break your heart.
I don’t agree with the list but there’s definitely some really good ones on there
Please do more reactions like this, Thurston. This was really interesting.
Comfortably Numb at #12 was a crime against mankind
"Do I know any Metallica songs?" You made my heart ache with that.
I Will Always Love You was written and performed by Dolly Parton in 1974. Whitney Houston did a cover of it in 1992.
I love most of these songs. Others not so much.
Yesterday is a great song but by NO MEANS is it the greatest song of all time
That is your opinion. To each his/her own
Right?! I was baffled that it was #1..
@@yespls4184 Are you all joking? It is an AMAZING song
It’s obviously Eleanor Rigby.
I'm equally baffled and impressed by the knowledge lol... I took notes, first time ever here doing that:
- (ccr) how doesn't he know this one?
- okay, his musician pop's influence is showing! ohhhmyygod I'm his dad's age
- jfc.... he kNoWs ThEm FrOm AdS 😐😂
- wait... OASIS IS BRITISH?
- Dylan: a poetic genius with the voice of a quiet weedwhacker
- love the U2 reaction, it was exactly as it should be
- radiohead = banger. Agreed.
- give Marvin Gaye a shot
- Bowie fans know/adore him, Beatles fans are pretty much the same. The rest of the population is right there with you
- Please give Pink Floyd and Bob Marley a genuine chance. If you'd like to give them both a chance at the same time, listen to the album "Dub Side of the Moon" by Easy Star All-Stars❤
Lol same. I was like "What! Oasis is British!?"
"Bowie fans know/adore him, Beatles fans are pretty much the same. The rest of the population is right there with you" This is the most ignorant and incorrect statement I've seen in this comment section. Most people in the UK and US know a lot of Beatles songs even if they don't think they do. You and Thurston are in the minority, for sure.
@@voodoosleeper i wouldn't call that part of my comment ignorant, but rather, misunderstood by the reader. I meant that if you know and love a ton of Bowie/Beatles pieces, you're probably a fan. If you don't know a lot, you're probably not a fan. And there (in my experience) is nearly always that linear separation of people. I say this as both a Bowie AND Beatles fan.
Maybe the compiler of this list should have qualified it as something other than an all-time list. Maybe in their lifetime? There's at least a half dozen songs from the 30s and 40s that would make an all-time list.
It sounds like you have a whole list of songs to react to now :)
I like these kind of reactions. You should react to a video of American top 100 billboard pop songs :)
When I watched the top I was thinking: In the top 10 will be "Starway To Heaven" and "Bohemian Rhapsody", and number one will be "Yesterday". I'm surprised of myself for knew it, I got the taste of great music 😂
I'd definitely enjoy music reactions, love music so much.
Most of these bands and songs were very influential in their time.
Rolling Stone has a decent list of the Top 500, too.
That Unchained Melody song is amazing. For a song suggestion you should react to Elvis live 1977 singing it, he did amazing :)
I feel you actually coz I only know many Queen songs since their songs are played by people a lot, and some Michael Jackson songs. That's all I'm sorry TT_TT
Use this list as a guide to classic rock. There's a lot of great stuff out there.
Needs more Fleetwood Mac.
What’s your favorite genre of music
Incredible music. Maybe use this list as a list of song you should react to?
Johnny Cash and his daugter Roseanne Cash both did their version of Tennesee Flat-Top Box and it sounds really good especially hers. he did a song called I Have A Thing About Trains.
In my life one of my favorites
Finally a video about music, The United Kingdom 🇬🇧 is a powerhouse in contemporary music 🎸
You knew A Lot more of them than I thought you would! 😂
You should do a Johnny Cash first time listen and do a few, including Hurt which is a remake from NIN.
The song from Shrek you're thinking of is probably Holding out for a Hero
Jo Nunya Yeah they sound fairly similar lol
There’s also an old animation at the same time as Shrek of an alien who sings it and gets crushed by the disco ball. The alien is green as well.
@@dracomaster4 What's it called now I'm curious xD
@@neonmajora8454 It's this one: ua-cam.com/video/RGg_d9Yhw2Q/v-deo.html
Love the mutton chops lol
Sweet Home Alabama is from 1974. All of Nirvana is from the early 1990s.
8 of them were Beatles!
I will survive was in the movie the Replacements.
Bohemian Rhapsody is generally considered the best rock song of all time, if you look at sales, longevity, recognizability, innovation, etc, by the industry, media, and fellow musicians.
And you called it, saying that was what you expected to be #1.
Uh, no it's not.
sales? Lol. Beatles and MJ way before Queen. For me Imagine is the most famous song, I always thougth We Will Rock You is the most famous Queen song.
I feel so old right now....
This is soooo hard to watch, with Thurston not knowing some of the classics.
Although I love the song Yesterday, I'd have to put Bohemian Rhapsody as #1. The song Yesterday came to McCartney in a dream. He woke up knowing the tune and immediately rolled out of bed and started playing it on the piano next to his bed. The working title was "Scrambled Eggs". He took it to all of his friends asking if they had ever heard the tune, thinking he had subconsciously plagiarized it. Similarly, he had a dream about his mother, Mary, telling him to not worry and to just "Let It Be". Yesterday is the most covered song in history.
The Elvis songs were used in Lilo & Stitch
Anyone reading this watch Bob Marley live in Santa Barbara the concert is usually on UA-cam. Chefs kiss.
At your age I use to hear music at venues like the music machine, electric ballroom, the rainbow, you reference Shrek!! Jesus times have changed 😂
Sweet Home Alabama is from the mid 70s...if your girlfriend's dad loves Bob Dylan then he probably has loads of music that he could play for you from the old days...omg there is SO much awesome music you could be loving.
Into the Beatles' rabbit hole you go, my guy
Lynryrd Skynrd is the best. Gimme' Three Steps, Free Bird, I Ain't The One, and What's Your Name and Simple Man. these are classics.
Yeah, I’m shocked Free Bird and Simple Man didn’t make the list…
There's one great song I don't remember seeing in this slightly odd list. It's by Bachman Turner Overdrive, it's called 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet', and one of its lines is 'You need educatin'. Gotta go to school'!
I don't think it was in Shrek . . . 😉
And I'm only kidding, very entertaining video, especially I suspect for we oldies.
I only didn't know 12 songs. I'm quite happy with that. Lol
This is just someone's favorite songs list nothing more. Plenty of good and bad songs. It's all subjective.
If this was a real list, The Beatles would take up every spot...
Wrong!!!! You probably mean if this was your personal opinionated list.
Homework: Listen to all 100 songs. 🤘
I think some ol’ school music reactions are due 😊
I think “I will survive” came out in Chicken little
I think the Shrek song you mean is "I need a Hero" by Bonnie Tyler. It sounds a little like "I will survive"
Classics
When he didn't know the Louis Armstrong song I knew there was a problem.
i wonder if this was someone's personal top 100 or if it was rolling stone magazines top 100? i agree that if you heard most of the songs chorus parts youd be like OOOH, ITS THAT SONG?!?! it seems like around half the bands on this list are british and to hear you say you dont know a good chunk of them saddens me and im an american
Personal Top 100 of what they consider the greatest songs, but not necessarily their favorites.
It's not Rolling Stone's list. Must be a personal thing.
Stayin alive was in Madagascar
A lot of these I'm not sure how you managed to not hear them but maybe it's just a difference of what was mostly being played on the radio when you were growing up.
Im a Eric Burdon Fan
You could try listening to your parents or perhaps your grandparents radio stations.
i’d like to know who made this list. They are all great songs but I can’t say they are all in the top 100 songs of all time .Doesn’t look like a very scientific list. I don’t think they took into account sales or how long they were at the top of the charts.
The list maker states in the notes to the video that it was just a personal list. Nothing scientific at all.
Not gonna lie, I was half expecting #1 to be Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up"🤣
Do a reaction to buddy Holley & the surf ball room the day the music died
I could easily edit this to at least 50 deserving to be on this list,
I think you should react to both Louis Armstrong and Bruddah Iz version of what a wonderful world
It honestly breaks my heart u don’t know Imagine
Sweet Home Alabama released in the 70's im pretty sure
Shrek is single handedly responsible for keeping a lot of songs alive 😂
Try listening to One Ok Rock - One Way Ticket, make sure it is the copy on the One Ok Rock_Topic channel. Its a live performance.
Sound of Silence - first react to original by Simon and Garfunkel, then by Disturbed, then by Pentatonix.
The Metallica One video will blow your mind.
I worry that all these young reactors honestly believe all these massively popular classic hits "are from Shrek."
Who compiled this list. Guess I need to refer to the original video to learn more.
I guarantee if you heard all 100 songs at least half way through, you would know probably 80 to 90 of them.
Creedence Clearwater Rivival- Have you ever seen the rain being list at 100 signaled to me that the list was going to be kind of bs.
The who song is baywatch theme song
Never heard beatles. Must been in another planet
If you want a more consensus take, there's Rolling Stone magazine's top 500. People disagree with exact placements, but very few disagree with the quality on the list.
I will always love you done by Dolly Parton in 1973 whitney redid it in 2012
i love me some CCR
I didn't know 2 of them. Three biggest shock was you don't know Imagine???
I cannot believe Kanye is ahead of Whitney WTF.
is this a list from the top 100 from the music billboard? or is this list from a fan of music
Lol, I will survive from The Replacements with Keanu Reeves is the best use in a movie, lol
So far there are so many I would never rank in the Top 100. Besides, 100 is far too little to encompass any song from any genre at any time in pop history. Needs to be narrowed down to a genre or decade or region.
