Madonna, only female in the Top 5 and the "newest" artist to appear within the top spots, ie. less time to sell records as the others. Very impressive stats.
And, that's just The Beatles' album sales, they have well over a billion and a 1/2 in sales for combined units: singles, albums, cassettes, 8-tracks, and cds. And, they usually sell more units per year even now than anyone else. Amazing! As for Bee Gees, they were NOT simply a Disco band, like a lot of people think. They were big in the '60s, before Disco was a thing, and through the '70s into the '80s, and produced some incredible songs. You should definitely react to Bee Gees! Starting with "Too Much Heaven," which is a classic and showcases the Brothers Gibb's voices in spectacular fashion. You'll be stunned!!
I think it says a lot that the three biggest selling artists in this list were all popular in the 60s (Michael Jackson with the Jackson 5). The 1960s really was a transformative decade for music.
Elvis dominated from some time in the 1950s to the early 1960s. The Beatles dominated from about the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. There was overlap, too. MJ was early 1970s to 1980s, I think. .o0
So proud of BTS, from debuting in 2013 in an industry which relie on alot of expectation's and doing nightclub performance's for 200 and even free performance's to selling 100k stadium's, so proud to be an Army 💜
Bee Gees are the best, they wrote 1000+ songs for themselves and other famous artists like Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and they would write still iff Mo and Robin were alive. Guinness World Records lists Barry as the second most successful songwriter in history, behind Paul McCartney!
If you don't think that Pink should be on there where she is, then you should definitely react to her. She has such a rockin voice and can sing her a** off!!
Supertramp, Sting, Journey, Police, Van Halen, Wham!, Genesis, Doors, David Bowie, Prince, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Eagles, Rod Stewart, AC/DC, U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Queen, Michael Jackson, Beatles.
LOL... where are the women? You didn't mention one of them (unless you count Stevie and Christine from a mixed group, Fleetwood Mac). Madonna is #5 in this list. Pretty impressive career, mate.
One Direction isn't Irish, they have one Irish member, Niall, and the other four are English. Phil Collins is English too, who compiled this list don't they know the nationalities of the artists?
The Beatles also had many millions in sales as individuals. The only thing that surprised me is that the Bee Gees were not a little higher since they had such a long career and so many hits. I strongly recommend you doing some Bee Gees. Start with Jive Talking.
Always knew the Beatles were at number one. Think it would be interesting to see the most successful song writers by team or individual. Not really sure why Phil Collins shows up under USA though - he will always be British to me. And the Bee Gees were born in the Isle of Man and lived in Manchester before moving to Oz in 55 - so I tend to think of them that way too!
RIAA has them at 21 million albums sold in the US. Never the mega album selling band like some of their peers The Beatles. Zeppelin, Floyd, Eagles, AC/DC etc. They had one 3X platinum, four 2Xplatinum, and a long list of platinum records. Can't explain it. I would have thought Who's Next would have been Diamond (10X platinum) or close to it.
One overestimate that sometimes. The best-selling album is "Tommy" (1969) with approx. 20,000,000, only one more album (Who's Next, 1971) reaches more than 4,000,000 copies (always assuming that these lists are halfway correct...).
Ha! I was trying to telepathically yell to you who it had to be. As long as Zeppelin is in the top ten, it's all good. I'm surprised Tom Petty did not make this list.
Tom Petty(+the Heartbreakers) are listed with 7 albums, that have sold at least 1,000,000 copies. At first "Greatest Hits" (1993) approx. 13,000,000 sales, 2. "Full Moon Fever (1989) approx. 6,000,000, 3. "Wildflowers" (1994) 3,500,000.
I LOVE how the BEATLES are not a "newer artist" but a "CLASSIC ARTIST" and they are STILL NUMBER ONE in sales today, in fact the number is higher than it is in this video.
True but also you can't compare the physical era to the streaming era. Of course artists during that time are gonna have more sales when ppl had to buy the record to listen to it. Nowadays, its all about streams & billboard counts 1,250 streams as one album sale.
Robbie Williams at 75 peak! Amazing british solist. He was so huge! But he is unknown on USA. He has 4 gigs on the top of more attendance, and He has 2 Record Guiness, 1 for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day. You should to hear his songs and gigs. Regards from Argentina
very interesting, glad you did this. remember many bands had breakups or other issues that cut their careers short. Like Zeppelin. also with our larger more affluent population today, a lot of current artist show big sales. also ethnic sales like BTS who sold so many albums in assia. Same for ABBA and number one in thier homeland forever.
How do you explain then, that the BEATLES are number one in sales here (actually it's probably more than that now) when their recording career, touring, movies, was from late 1962 till their breakup 8 years later in 1970? Next year, on Feb. 9, 2024 it will be 60 years since the BEATLES performed LIVE on the ED SULLIVAN SHOW for the first time in the U.S. Their FIRST U.S. concert was 2 days later in Washington D.C at the Washington Coliseum on Feb. 11, 1964 (which is available to watch their entire performance here on You Tube) and the next day on Feb. 12, 1964 their second U.S. concert at New York City's CARNEGIE HALL. The BEATLES were the FIRST ROCK BAND to play at CARNEGIE HALL. So just because a band had a "short" career, doesn't mean it affects their sales. When music is EXCELLENT, it lasts and will always be popular.
At 4:15, the biggest surprises for me are Ayumi Hamasaki and Johnny Hallyday. I have a massive collection of post-war (WWII) Pop music, and I've got 0 songs from those two. My collection could obviously use some fixin'.
I’m I’m 45 and from the U.K. Johnny Halliday was a name that always came up as a big French star when I was young but I never heard any of his music. I think it was just before my time so the music wasn’t still about but the name was.
The Beatles and The Jackson 5, who's Sales Were added to Michael Jackson's Total Sales are Considered Groups, meaning individuals within the group's had hits of their Own Adding to the Total Hits of the Group. According to the Guinness Book of World Records Elvis Presley, Is To This Day Considered The Top Selling SOLO Artist Of All Time With Well Over One Billion Records (Singles, Albums, 8 Tracks, Cassettes, CD's etc) Sold World Wide And They Were ALL HIS Individual Hits, so that puts Elvis on Top. Finally someone who knows that there is no way MJ should have had that number two spot. I'm not even sure if MJ is number two after e, I think it may be someone else. Elvis is also the top selling male artist of all time in the U.S. I'm surprised he didn't take a second to fact check the top 3 afterwards.
Hi, I discovered your channel a couple of months ago. I think you might enjoy Billy Joel or Hall & Oates. They are a couple of my favorites. I love Queen and love watching the videos when you react to them.
The Beatles are now over 600 million albums alone. Doesn’t event count singles, which they didn’t put onto albums! Or their solo work. (Btw, I love that whoever made that video trolled the Stones by using a picture of The Beatles 😂.) It’s even more impressive because back then you had to go to record stores to buy albums… I’m surprised NSync wasn’t in there (I’m going to check their numbers) and that Britney wasn’t higher. I love seeing Prince but damn he made it hard to find his albums for a long time.
600 million album sales might be slightly too high , from my research on dozens of sites I estimate it's well over 450 million , maybe as high as 500million. Both Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd sold more studio albums than any other band including The Beatles. The Beatles total is overwhelming boosted by all the big selling compilation/ best of albums including The Red , Blue, Love, 1, Anthology, Past Masters etc taking them way past both Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for total album sales . Peace
@@pauldocmusic2411 But for the Beatles you have to add their sales of singles as well. Most of these artists, certainly from the 70s onwards, didn't make singles, only albums.
Hi Salvo! Sade is pronounced Shar-day and she has an amazing voice. For Sade I'd suggest "Smooth Operator" For Meatloaf, of course "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" For Rod Stewart I'd suggest the song "Every Picture Tells a Story" or "Maggie May" With Springsteen, my favourite would be the live version of "Born to Run" Cheers from Canada!
Great response except for the Springsteen recommendation I just never could get into the man... I understand how people love it It just was never my cup of tea It all sounded the same to me...
This list is somewhat suspect, but regarding your surprise at the BeeGees - I'm wondering if the sales numbers also include sales of songs they wrote but didn't record. They were a songwriting powerhouse and wrote hits for many other artists. The BeeGees were around long before and long after disco, even though many people think of them as a disco act.
I think these sales numbers in general seem off... but in terms of where she's placed... #5 is probably pretty close. She certainly hasn't sold as much as Elvis, the Beatles or MJ, but she is definitely very high up and certainly the top female. Folks who want to claim this or that female artist is the Queen of Pop are delusional. They may be YOUR personal queen, but they are not THE Queen. Put some respec on it.
Actually there really was no surprise. I pretty much felt certain people would place close to where they landed. I knew from the start that the Beatles would be #1.
I think that Bruce Springsteen would be good for some Salvo G reactions. There's 50 years of material there. For starters, go back to 1975. Born to Run, of course, and try 'Jungleland' from the same album.
Bee Gees are amazing! If you haven't delved into their various eras you are missing out. 50+ decades of genius. I'm actually surprised they were not higher on this list, but people often under estimate them.
Hmm, the title said "The Rolling Stones" but the pic was the Beatles. That was the most surprising for me, that someone made this and didn't know what the Stones look like.
I don't know who put this list was put together, but ABBA have well over 400 million in sales - pretty much on par with The Beatles - and still selling ☺
I don't think ABBA is quite as large as the Beatles (no one is, really) but they have definitely had a massive career and maybe one of the best outside of the US and UK. Frida is my favourite.
You still don't understand the scope. The Beatles are at #1 but their actual sales dwarf the number you have here. I'm not sure of your source but Wikipedia and Guinness have Elvis at #2 with global sales of 500 million to 1 bill, making him the best selling solo artist in history. Michael Jackson has sold a lot but his actual comparative amount brings him no higher than 3rd or 4th. The RIAA(US) have Presley #3 behind Garth Brooks with Jackson maybe 6th although Brooks admits Presley is ahead of him. Both the Beatles and Elvis have huge back catalogs (Especially Presley whose list of recorded songs stands at over 700) and album sales continually are derived from them. In the 2010s the Beatles and Elvis were the only noncurrent artists to rank in the top 10 in album sales. Incredible! It's important to separate solo artists from any time they're associated with a group. They aren't the same entity. This list was circumspect in that regard with Ozzy. I'm not sure it's clear they were as diligent with everyone. This list seems to be an outlier. But it was still interesting if curious.
Hmm. How is this determined. I know Dame Olivia Newton-John has sold over 100 million records and Sir Cliff Richard has sold over 250 million records globally.
Meatloaf is great. Check out "It's all coming back to me now." I just found your channel thru Fleetwood Mac and I'm enjoying watching you react to music I grew up with. :) Edit: Rod Stewart - Tonight's the night
And the BEATLES sales go continue to go up daily, and for a band that broke up in 1970, and all the other groups mentioned here (or singers) have been together or active for a longer period of time than the Beatles were. This will FINALLY PROVE the POINT that the BEATLES ARE the GREATEST BAND EVER with the most DIVERSE catalogue of any group! I WISH you would react to the BEATLES, the BEE GEES, and ABBA!!
A lot of these totals are calculated weirdly . Queen for instance have only sold 90 million studio albums, their greatest hits contribute a boost to sales obviously above that. They add to the album totals with streaming and views on various sites. These are not album sales and shouldn't be added. The biggest 3 bands are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin then Pink Floyd for album sales. Floyd and Led Zeppelin then drop to 7th and 8th after solo artists inclusion. Peace
You are absolutely correct. There is no way that Queen have ever topped Zeppelin...in fact, only the Beatles have outsold Led Zeppelin in album sales, and the Eagles have recently been up there with Zep as well ( not counting solo artists like Garth Brooks). Queen should be and have always been quite a bit father down the list. They are nowhere near the top 5 sellers. Not sure where these numbers are coming from, but they don't figure correctly at all when you look at the actual numbers. The lists ( unlike this one) have always been pretty consistent - at least the reliable & trustworthy ones, for several years. The top 5 have always been the same top five for 20 years or more. As for LZ, their album sales alone are between $300-400 million and have been for quite some time. Not the $200+ million or so that was shown in this video. They surpassed that amount many years ago.
@@MJEvermore853 agree mate , The Eagles are still about 60 to 70 million sales behind Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Their greatest hits is their biggest selling album. There are another 4 or 5 bands including Queen close together after that. Some sites count 10 streams of say Bohemian Rhapsody video as an album sale for Queen which is frankly ridiculous. Peace
The Beatles are the number one selling group but Elvis Presley is the number one selling solo artist of all time with over a billion worldwide sales. Not sure how MJ got that number two spot on there because im not sure he's even number two behind Elvis i think it's someone else. You don't have to take my word for it look for yourself. Elvis is also the number 1 selling male artist of all time in the U.S. Seriously only takes a sec to verify if this video is actually correct or not.
Elvis is the number one selling solo artist of all time with over a billion worldwide sales and he is the number one selling male artist of all time in the U.S. Not sure where or how this chart was made because it's definitely not accurate. I don't even think MJ is number two behind Elvis I'm pretty sure it's someone else. He should have at least fact checked the top three after the results lol
The totals for the bands in the list are miles off. The Eagles didn't make enough studio albums to boost their totals. Their greatest hits album was their biggest seller. They still done well to sell around 200 million albums. Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd are the 2nd and 3rd biggest selling bands after The Beatles. Peace
ABBA sold more than 375 Million records WW that is according to their label Universal Music Group. Also, No way BTS sold more than Rihanna what a joke this list is🤣😂
@@UFGHF365 then ask UMG, ABBAs record label.. They're the one who awarded ABBA a plaque commemorating 375M records sold way back in 2004. There's no way ABBA sold 375 million singles.. Therefore That 375 Million is combined singles and albums
These are very interesting numbers. Take for instance Carpenters. On Wikipedia it states they have sold MORE than 100 million. Is it groups or musicians because i see both. Top 5 is correct.Olivia Newton John is another one.
Fleetwood Mac was and is a British band. The band was formed as a blues band in the 1960s by English musicians Mick Fleetwood and John McVie - hence the name of the band Fleetwood Mac. The rest of the band were also English, including the gifted guitarist Peter Green. By the mid 1970s only Mick Fleetwood and John McVie remained, so they recruited John's English wife Christine and then a Californian couple, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. Given that all of the band members of the original band were English and that Nicks and Buckingham were invited to join the already existing English band in its second incarnation, what on earth is "wild" about calling it an English band?
Literally the name of the band bears the names of two British members, never ever in Fleetwood Mac's life were there more American members than British members.
Hi. Have you heard of the new rock group out within the last five years called Gretta Van Fleet? The were compared to Led Zeppelin with their song Highway Tune. Please react to Heat Above. Please, please, please!🤗😁
Nothing personal, but Gretta is not compared to Zeppelin by any real Zeppelin fans. The only connection is that their lead singer works really hard to sound like Robert Plant. He just doesn't have the feeling behind his voice. Guitarist is no Page. Other two can't compare to Bonham or Jones. Robert's lyrics, the music. No one comes close. I've heard that Gretta tries not to sound like Zeppelin now. That would be a good thing. (Sorry, don't mean to slam them if you're a big fan of theirs.)
@@livingreflection5 Yes all that is true, but the wail in Highway Tune does remind one of Roger Plant. Greta has since come into their own sound with Heat Above. Broken Bells is a good listen too. These guys are good.
I was surprised Phil Collins was as low as he was; but when you include sales with Genesis he falls just below John Lennon and Michael Jackson (as I read elsewhere recently)!
He is the best selling male artist of the 80s. If you combine his Genesis and solo work, Phil Collins outsold Michael Jackson in the decade; only Madonna had more 80s sales. (Jackson did better overall because he was bigger in the 70s and 90s)
You should know these lists are only for voyeurs and not to be taken seriously. McCartney was the first Arts/Entertainment/Sports billionaire. Followed by Tiger Woods and then Michael Jordan. The rest can sell perfume or fashion…but does that really count? Rhianna 🤣

Yeah add Paul + John + George + Ringo's Solo Albums, and the Beatles go higher by another 250M. Nobody can ever catch them. Ever.
Surprised The Who weren't there and that Shania Twain was so far down the list.
6:57 - Since when was Phil Collins an American!?
Bee Gees are amazing! If you haven't delved into their various eras you are missing out. 50+ decades of genius. I'm actually surprised they were not higher on this list, but people often under estimate them.
Hmm, the title said "The Rolling Stones" but the pic was the Beatles. That was the most surprising for me, that someone made this and didn't know what the Stones look like.
They had Phil Collins as American and one direction as Irish 😂
The Bee Gees are great…I'd be down for reactions to them. Huge library.
You should explore Steve Wonder's music. He's incredible.
That was interesting. Too many thoughts about it to share them all. I'd watch this kind of content again.
Elton John is actually 350 sales now
This list has so many inaccuracies and artists missing, not to mention some nationalities are incorrect also.
I noticed they have phil collins with an american flag,he's british
I think this is about album sales, not streams or youtube videos.
Hmm. How is this determined. I know Dame Olivia Newton-John has sold over 100 million records and Sir Cliff Richard has sold over 250 million records globally.
You have a good point. Cliff Richard had a very long career and was extremely popular. The list is a bit suspect.
Also, Garth Brooks is the only country artist listed but I will wager he did not sale as many records as Johnny Cash.
@@impudentdomain he actually sold more.
Meatloaf is great. Check out "It's all coming back to me now." I just found your channel thru Fleetwood Mac and I'm enjoying watching you react to music I grew up with. :)
Edit: Rod Stewart - Tonight's the night
Lol!! Screaming "The Beatles" into my phone!!! 😅🤣
Album sales, decades worth, still selling!!
I thought Phil Collins was from England.
Peace
I got the top three right, but wasn't sure about the order. .o0
I think the Bee Gees are higher because they are still selling their albums and can't keep them in stock. They are my favorite group.
The Bee Gees are from Australia
Rod Stewart and the Faces have some great rocking songs!
The rolling Stones had a beatles photo wtf??
The Beatles are the number one selling group but Elvis Presley is the number one selling solo artist of all time with over a billion worldwide sales.
Not sure how MJ got that number two spot on there because im not sure he's even number two behind Elvis i think it's someone else.
You don't have to take my word for it look for yourself.
Elvis is also the number 1 selling male artist of all time in the U.S.
Seriously only takes a sec to verify if this video is actually correct or not.
What part of America does Phil Collins come from...?
I always heard that Elvis was the biggest selling male artist?
Elvis is the number one selling solo artist of all time with over a billion worldwide sales
and he is the number one selling male artist of all time in the U.S.
Not sure where or how this chart was made because it's definitely not accurate.
I don't even think MJ is number two behind Elvis I'm pretty sure it's someone else.
He should have at least fact checked the top three after the results lol
These figures are skewed towards downloads
Surprised by The Eagles .. seems they would've had higher sales.
Peace
@@pauldocmusic2411 Right .. I see that. Thnx for ur update. Enjoy ur evening 😊
@@ramonaalvarez7559 sane to you pal
Yeah, right .. in any list Zeppelin have over 300 million albums in sales along with Flyod who are above 250 million ..
lol, why is one direction down as Irish? 😅
Watch interviews of your favorite musicians, there are some good ones of Ian Anderson, Frank Zappa and Led Zeppelin to name a few.
Robert Plant's podcast is great. The episodes are about a half hour long and each one focuses on just one song.
ABBA sold more than 375 Million records WW that is according to their label Universal Music Group. Also, No way BTS sold more than Rihanna what a joke this list is🤣😂
Records is not the same as album units. Records is single sales.
@@UFGHF365 the term "records" sold means combined albums and singles... 🤦♂️
@@mikesmithson6805 you can't combine album sales & single sales like that. They don't weight the same. This video is showing album units alone.
@@UFGHF365 then ask UMG, ABBAs record label.. They're the one who awarded ABBA a plaque commemorating 375M records sold way back in 2004. There's no way ABBA sold 375 million singles.. Therefore That 375 Million is combined singles and albums
@@mikesmithson6805 & you can't combine single sales & album sales like that. RIAA & Billboard don't.
These are very interesting numbers. Take for instance Carpenters. On Wikipedia it states they have sold MORE than 100 million. Is it groups or musicians because i see both. Top 5 is correct.Olivia Newton John is another one.
Them saying Fleetwood mac is an English band when we all know the most popular person from that group is American is pretty wild
Why no response to my comment?
Literally the name of the band bears the names of two British members, never ever in Fleetwood Mac's life were there more American members than British members.
You have to check out Tom Petty.....Free Falling
I am I wrong, but if you add MJ plus the J5 sales he maybe #1.
Not accurate. Mariah Care has sold well over 225 million albums. ALBUMS. That doesn't include the sales of her singles.
Who would think that Michael Jackson has sold more than The Beatles???
This is not accurate. Phil Collins is definitely British.
oops 8:18
Phil Collins - United States? Really!
Phil collins is not from USA he's from London
I was surprised Phil Collins was as low as he was; but when you include sales with Genesis he falls just below John Lennon and Michael Jackson (as I read elsewhere recently)!
He is the best selling male artist of the 80s. If you combine his Genesis and solo work, Phil Collins outsold Michael Jackson in the decade; only Madonna had more 80s sales. (Jackson did better overall because he was bigger in the 70s and 90s)
According to this list, Phil Collins also became American! 😆
I think you'll like Dire Straits.
Did I miss it…was Aretha on the list?
I was kinda surprised Mylie Cyrus was on there at all. Next time they do this, I think she'll drop off. JMO.
You should know these lists are only for voyeurs and not to be taken seriously.
McCartney was the first Arts/Entertainment/Sports billionaire. Followed by Tiger Woods and then Michael Jordan.
The rest can sell perfume or fashion…but does that really count?
Rhianna 🤣
One Direction Ireland?
Only 1 member is Irish and other 4 were English 😂
Phil Collins is from UK
1d was considered as an english irish band
One Direction Irish…well 1/5th of them is and Phil Collins American 🤦
Sting and the Police both there... so Sting has two slots in the top 100. .o0
Phil Collins is English
