Well I for one am made up to see this superb footage of a place which entertained and scared me in equal measure during my childhood in the mid-60s/early-70s. There was so much to do in this vast space, though as a rather timid boy it was the presence of older bullies which was the scary part for me. I'd attract them without even trying, haha. The playground back then had what would never be allowed today, risky 'rides'. The Tea-Pot, (or Witch's Hat, depending on your opinion), the hugely tall slide, it seemed to take forever to reach the top and just seconds to slide down. Then there was the long iron bench like contraption which swung back and forth, elevated only about 3 feet off the ground, but when the momentum really got going ... oh my, lol, watch out stomach contents! The round-a-bout and the swings, even the rides deemed suitable for smaller children, none would get past Health & Safety today. And definitely no 'soft play' surfaces like bark or rubber, oh no, concrete or compacted earth, that was it. There was the roller rink, the miniature railway and a very grubby sandpit. And the Dorman Museum, you could spend an entire day in there and still not see everything. The huge stuffed lion mauling a zebra in the lobby, terrifying! Happy, happy days. Thank you.
Ha ha that's exactly the kind of memories I know from my old local park - Albert Park certainly does sound like a rather lively place back in the day with all its many rides and swings :) Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!
Love this park - it's a huge part of my childhood - my grandma and grandad lived in Waterloo Road, and I have very fond memories of walking in the park with them. The playground and the skating rink... and of course, the lake. Thanks for this walk!

Great Park, I still fish in the park quiet a few times a year, I had many great fun times their to with family and friends...Loved the fishing over the years...
Thank you you brought a beautiful memory back my aunt lived on linthorpe Road and as children we always were at the park my mother played here and i remember at 13 my beautiful grandfather took me here we walked passed the fountain and got an icecream my grandfather couldn't walk far for his breathing and he couldn't go out but i think that day he was determined to try he took me to the roller skating ring as i loved skating sadly my grandfather died a few years later it was our only 1 time out i remember and this video really took me back to that day i truly treasure thank you ❤
Great video! The cannon captured at Sevastopol is actually an original! Like you said many were melted down for ammunition in WW2 but 47 survived the cull and still stand around Britain & Ireland today.
As a boy i used to walk through there to go to Ayresome Park with my Dad to watch the Boro, happy days. Could I offer a little bit of constructive criticism, could you dwell / show a little more of the memorials etc and may be show any inscriptions on them. For me it would add to the walk. As with the town centre video you made it has so many memories for me. Thanks for making it.

@@LetsWalkUK I know you mentioned the Boro hero Brian Clough I think I am correct in saying that the entrance you went into the park, may be 200 yards from there is where Brian Clough was born, there is a plaque on the house.

a pleasure, wished I owned a house fronting one of these magnificent victorian green marvels, such as albert park middlesbrough itself or the botanic gardens in glasgow, roath park in cardiff, sefton park in liverpool, etc etc
The clock at the main gate had an hole in one of the faces my grandad used to tell me it was a bullet hole from when a german plane bombed linthorpe road and machine gunned the area . I think it was the old co.op emporium that got a direct hit .
I like the park walk. Do you have nature trails? In canada we have a big nature trail. Called the don valley in Toronto. We have lots of nature trails in the city of mississauga also. It's great to visit. Looking forward to seeing more of your live video walks 😀

Hi! The park is located to the south of central Middlesbrough - if you walk down Albert Road from the Town Hall through Teesside University campus you'll hit the northern edge of Albert Park. It's only about a 20 minute walk or so. Thanks for watching :)

Grew uo in that park when lived in grove hill always on the swings and slides. Rowing boats and small motor boats on the lake . Youd need a bat if went in there now its shocking especially if a female
