I agree with Piers regarding his brother’s military service. In todays world we do not see this often. My husband served 41.5 years in the Army. We have a friend who served 45 years. Therefore, I know of the sacrifices these two individuals endured while serving our country.
I served 13 years also in the US Army as - Vietnam Veteran. I did NOT want to give another year of my life to this country plus, I was stupid enough, I joined the NG two years, I woke up real fast and I got out. AGENT ORANGE recipient.

I'm not 100% sure, but i suspect it's similar to European Republics that have a President and a Prime Minister.
The powers of the president are:
- Throw down the government and demand re-elections (usually done if the government is very unpopular with the people).
- Veto legislations in parliament (same reason as above)
- Highest ranking within the military forces (like any leader of state).
There is a clear separation between the leader of the state (monarch) and the leader of the government (Prime Minister) and it's a counter balance with each other.
If the US had a monarchy, probably the US government would have fallen by now and you would have re-elections.
As an American, I have great respect for the Queen and am in awe of her service, dedication and love for her country. She is truly an inspiration not just to her own people, but to all women and other people around the world. She is truly a one of a kind queen that we will probably never see again. We all know the inevitable will happen someday and I will be crying. God bless her!
