I listened to this episode on Spotify and really wanted to thank you for talking about this movie. For years, I wanted to know how actual native people think of this movie, and I have struggled to find any native opinions on this movie because it's largely fallen into obscurity. This was very educational and very entertaining and thank you very much for this. I watched this a lot as a kid, and rewatching it as an adult with a more critical eye has made it one of my favorites. Being white, it really showed me that the layer of benevolence painted over America is complete bull***t if you even take 5 minutes of an honest look at the US's treatment of Native Americans. *Edited for typos. I typed this while at work.
This is SUCH a good movie. It's one of the all time great Native films. Definitely my favorite Graham Greene movie. In my next life, I hope I come back as Walter Crow Horse.
I've always loved this movie!
Same! Loved it growing up, glad it still held up. Solid movie with a lot of parallels to real events.

Didn't Fred Ward play Leaphorn in Dark Wind? I remember him from Remo Williams & he was Joe Dirt's dad.
Fred Ward has played Natives a few times! Pretty wild. Yes he was Joe Leaphorn in the old Dark Wind with Lou Diamond Phillips
