Thanks a lot! Much appreciated in small town Upstate New York where there are no known accordion instructors. This great instrument is about to stage a comeback - and I am going to be at the top of that scene! Keep up the great work.

This is a subject that interests me and I had to see how your method related to mine. The experience is different of course if the first note of your run is on the counter bass row but you will always use the standard bass and counterbass alternately. I like chromatic runs, both to add interest to the bass line between one beat and the next, i.e. instead of a triplet G A B C you could go between the G and C completely chromatically, or sometimes going down like that is nice.
It is also good to be able to go down one semitone at a time in a bass line as this gives a strong bass line and good harmony. So when you are used to playing complete or near complete chromatic scales this becomes a doddle. Sometimes of course you get a better rhythm by cutting one note out, e.g. C D Eb E F. I am thinking a lot about this at the moment through learning to explain ti to a friend.
The main problem with doing chromatic runs of course is that you can land up a long way from the matching chord key when you finish on the counter bass row particularly. The stradella bass is a fascinating subject overall, all the better for only being obvious when used very simply.

George your bass tuition is awesome. How about some tuition on some jazz cords. Dave.

George Whitfield It's easier to play a Chromatic scale w/ the Left Hand very fast on a Free Bass system which is the Mirror image of a Chromatic Button accordion.

You need to use the Master Switch on both keyboards, the bass side has lots of buttons, but not that many reeds, because what's interesting is that the Bass side only plays 12 individual bass notes one octave.

Very useful piece of demonstration George. As your surname suggests.. Whitfield---I have caught a thief

I quote a text from memory

Alors quand mon mari était ailleurs."

I can tell right away that the Lowest Pitch on the Bass Side of this Accordion is a D1 that's 3 Frets (a Minor Third) above the Low B String on a 5 String Bass.
