Fixing up the Abandoned Vintage Tractor and putting it to work

- The rescued David Brown-25 is in rough shape, the exhaust manifold is badly rusted, the oils are full of water and the filters haven't been changed this decade. So I'll do some maintenance / repairs and get it back to work
"Looking for girlfriend with tractor. Please send photo of tractor".
the fact that you find abandoned old stuff ... kinda amazing lol then fix it like a champ... hats off to you Sir :)
I can’t get enough of these old tractor videos you post, I wish they were longer, I could watch you working on them all day
Yep it’s always better when it only him by himself
Same here. As I have old stuff like this myself, It is very interesting to see how other people do similar repairs when no spare parts are available.
@@knas5289 yeah, certain parts are starting to dry up for the browns
We all want to do that.
Love your videos. Actually grew up in New Zealand from birth until the age of 12. Bucklands Beach in Auckland. Haven't been back since, maybe one day! Absolutely beautiful country.

I saw a movie about a hundred year old ship on the bottom of the Atlantic... something about an iceberg. Let's get the old welder out and see if we can make her float
@@jasonknowles5362 1912? It's been there a while. Think it'll float?
I was thinking that also. I remember visiting an Air Force workshop back in the 1970's and they were using them then. Perhaps the Blenheim AF base chucks their old ones into the nearby bush hehe, not far from where you live.
I thought the guy filming the motor grader had a special gift for cinematography. You're a good director. America loves you.
That was Marty's mate the artist.... who made the snail mascot for the grader and was the owner of the resurrected D2 dozer.
Good job ..., got well knowledge , 74 years of age , you able to make it run , great thing in your life doing , regards from kuala lumpur.
I really like that you repaired that exhaust manifold. I didn't think that you would go that direction...that was awesome! Nice work
Looks like the wife has a tractor now. Lol..
Best way for him to keep getting new tractors is if he gets his wife a few too!
Valentine's Day gift?
You're a romantic Marty, giving the wife a tractor for Valentine's day.
If only all our wives could be like that, the world would be a much better place.

I can hear that tractor breathing a sigh of relief when that oil came out
"oil" I've never seen whatever that stuff was lol, wild
@@M.TTT. Water with a hint of slippery stuff🤭
In the first video I swear I couldn't breathe well after he removed the oil drain plug up until he poured in the new oil.
The tractor must have been on a dairy all it’s life cause that looked like fresh cream to me
@@USN_Ret- I hope he changed that oil again after running it for a little while. It definitely needed a flushing.

Such a sincere "even keeled" narrational voice that's loaded with common sense and logic. Driven by a passion for the resurrection of the discarded and forgotten. All backed by mechanical skills and a love for his craft. A pleasure to watch, listen and learn. Great stuff Marty T.
So True!!!
Ya did all the basic service 'n she runs quite well for a 70 year old tractor....Beautiful find...
Marty it is Valentines day, what did you do for your wife? "Well I got her a shiny red tractor and tuned her up, she still sputters and backfires a bit, but the tractor runs great!" =P
Mrs Marty is awesome...my kind of woman....good stuff as usual, save on those old tractors...they still have much to give.
These videos are among the few that I enjoy sitting through the entire thing.
Watching a "Marty T" video is like mechanical Tai Chi.
It certainly encourages a "give it a go" attitude. I certainly look forward to finding something to give a similar droopy eyed thankful smile like that little "25".
Your content is a great example of why Right to Repair is so important.
I just look at these videos and think 70 years later and he can still get new filters for the thing..
It's amazing for standardisation.
I wonder in the next 80 years if they can say the same thing when tractors are all electric.. (oh, I can't get the proprietary motor controller anymore) blar blar
Absolutely
Louis agree with u
@@ColinRichardson it’s weird to think about EVERYTHING we make and what it’ll look like 80 years from now. Kind of scary. I feel that mid 1900s equipment would last 80 years from now but our stuff would fall apart.
This is the best comment I have EVER seen on any YT video, I fully agree with you. I really admire Marty T. that he can take something old, abandoned, broken etc. and reuse it. It's absolutley brilliant!!
Excellent video Marty top job on the tractor 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I hear you
Your wife is great at working the stick!!!! Great content! :D
Mrs T a tractor enthusiast also - you live in NZ off grid it does not get any better Marty - you are a lucky man.
the girl enjoying the tractor is a SPECIAL GIRL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so pleasant to watch how you renew the old and neglected machinery 😊
Marty l ❤ watching your video's it's much better than watching TV 😊, I ❤it when you talk it through from the start to the end and not like a lot of them other's, what's up etc and trying to make such a big deal out it. Well done 👏 keep up the good work Marty saving these real true good strong old timers machines from disappearing and tell the wife that she is an absolute awesome wife allowing you to save all these old timers from disappearing.😊
16:49. I'm reminded of an old farmer's joke. An ad placed in the rural paper. "WANTED: WIFE WITH TRACTOR. IF INTERESTED, PLEASE SEND PICTURE OF TRACTOR..."
I find women, who like to work on stuff with you, and don't look like a tractors themselves, utterly attractive.
Thank you Marty. Really appreciate your videos.
Was I the only one that thought “ now that’s a knife” when he was scraping the gasket off?!?!😉
My thoughts exactly! You just beat me to the comment, lol
I was scrolling down to see if there was a "gasket scraper aussie/kiwi accent knife" remark, and here we are

Oh no, you were not alone, but I was waiting for Marty to take his hat off, hold it skyward, and tell us the time!
The ole tractor is earning its keep already!!! Nice Job!
I really love these old machinery restoration you do Marty - looking forward to see more of this old "beast" lol. Thanks for the video, and stay safe down there in New Zealand.

All across the United States you see abandoned cars, trucks, buses even planes sitting in the weeds. One tractor in New Zealand shouldn't surprise anyone.

Good one!!! LOL I think Marty is actually a brainiac stuck in a lab all day and does this to get the cobwebs out of his head.🤣🤣🤣
Don’t tempt him (Marty) he would have a go at recycling it back into use.
@DD PN The part that worried me the most wasn’t her stupidity, it is the fact that she is 40 and an educator and did this. What does she teach the children that would horrify us more than her doing that to herself?
your little shed addition is really coming in handy, keep up the great work.
That tarp is 100% marine grade. Those are the only tarps that last that long as they're both UV stable and have that anti salt leach substance in them.
p.s 3:57 now we know where milk shake comes from. :))
Always enjoy the those moments with your family. Now go till up those garden bed for the missus!
I collect old iron like this. That oil bath shows signs that the water level was higher. I bet when you walked her out of the beans that she slobbered out some water. It might have been a result of years of being abandoned. But keep an eye on that intake. Sometime they get aquatic after a rain... I bet however you know this...
Would have been an idea for OEM to have welded or folded a "skirt" to shield that join between the bottom of the mesh filter housing and the oil bath itself...
DUDEZILLA! If binge watchin' your channel is wrong , well then BY GOD, I DON'T want to be right!!!
Hey Marty, you should do a vid of your tractor and tool collection.
Yes I would absolutely watch that
I would also absolutely watch that as well. Also any other vids you got!
Watching your wife drive reminded me of my young self driving one in the field during hay season.
Remove old fuel tank and patch while hiding a plastic boat tank inside it should look original . Great to see old stuff running. Cheers from Australia
I see what you mean about the water in the tires. It was actually a blessing so you could drive it out. I think I got the 40 years when you might have mentioned the oil probably hadn't been changed in about 40 years. Very cool video.
It was quite common to put water in the tyres to add weight and traction.
Another great upload. What ever you do don't paint her, the patina is well earned.
I’m 14 from Israel after seeing your Videos you give me the desire to learn Mechanics and now after yer of hrs work ie finally complete to fix moped by myself thanks to you ( now in the corona home study ie work on engine mor then I learn sometimes ween I learn 😜)
Love that there is no obnoxious intro to these videos. You go straight into the interesting part of the video.
i love your videos my man!! you take pride in what you do with what you have. keep up the good work
Hi Marty, That tractor has only ever been a petrol only model. The TVO version had the classic "double tank" - A small petrol tank of about half a gallon, inside the main TVO tank. Plus, there were other items of equipment in the exhaust manifold that have never been on yours. In some territories the exhaust would have been as yours, with a silencer, on my UK model, it had a 'choked stack pipe' which gave the exhaust a very rich and fruity sound, but importantly, improved the effectiveness of the manifold hot spot' and Priestman vaporiser - which yours doesn't have.
On the hydraulic lift, it will always lift the arms with no load on them, so I'd suggest trying something like a Ransomes TS-59 three furrow plough on there, and get the oil fully warmed up and see how it performs then. A good test of the hydraulic power is to fill a standard 4 ton farm trailer with earth, and see if it can tip that! If it can, it's a good one! The hydraulic pressure on these tractors was only ever quite low, around 400 to 500 psi, if memory serves me, so don't expect too much out of it.
I was looking at those front wheels, and it looks to me as though you have commercial vehicle rims welded to the original DB centres. The original rims would have been 19" and mounted in the same adjustable manner as the rear wheels - The front axle on these is fixed, and the track adjustment is done by repositioning the rims and centres as necessary to obtain the correct track, also one good reason to get rid of those truck tyres.
I'm guessing that yours has been used as a trailer tug in its later life? - They were quite popular in that role over here, on caravan sites and to a lesser extent, as a boat launcher.
Brakes always seemed to be good on these, but they should squeal! There's something not quite right if they don't! A lot of subsequent DB models had a bad habit of leaking oil on the brake drums, and rendering their brakes ineffective.
I have a Cropmaster and a 25 here in NZ. Both were found in much the same condition as Marty's. Both my engines were frozen however, so I had to remove rocker shafts, stake valves and then blow penetrating oil though each cylinder. They are Petrol only models and the Cropmaster has the double tank arrangement still but nothing else TVO related. The 25 has the single tank and is near identical to the machine Marty's wife now has. Your comments are spot on..
@@kevinsmith467 Thank you. 👍
Great work you did on that tractor...
Awesome to see mama run around with the 70 yr old buggy! She made it seem easy Marty! Better step your game up ;)

Marty, my boy, you're gonna be fighting that DB 25 for the wife's affections.
Great to see Mrs T enjoying the find as well.
I waited for this, sounds great Marty, even with all the repairs and TLC, the price is still right
That's a neat tractor, you do a great job with these older machines. I've got a English built 1957 D 270 Allis Chalmers petrol great little tractor runs really well, it at a vintage machinery museum over here in just north of Brisbane. Love the old stuff.
Probably the bramble vines and bushes helped shelter that tarp from the elements
That brings back happy memories of driving vintage tractors to steam rallies! The furthest was 40 miles from home and I had to overtake a little Kubota on the way as it was going slower than me😂😂
She's a real beauty Marty, and the tractor was lovely also.
she sure is cutie pie !!
Simple repairs that makes the difference! Great video!
Hi mate home made ultra sonic cleaner simple steel tray on a palm sander or a vibrator works great
Might have to try that, cheers
Right to repair is such an great thing! So nice to see someone fixing and using abandoned machines. Good on ya! Love the old red tractor, such an amazing piece of history and built to last!
That tractor wasn’t abandoned, the owner came back from lunch to find some silly sod has driven off with it.
When I saw that oil pooping out in the first video I was like "oh that poor girl" I'm glad to see all the proper cleaning and especially the rubber boots on the shifters to keep water out of where it doesn't belong. Great follow up video.
The water in the wheels was probably for wieght. Old farmer's trick when they didnt have wheel weights or couldnt afford them.
Yup, normal practice to half fill them.
And it was as good as any but you all so had too add anti freeze
Or when you need more weight than the wheel weights. My dad's tractors always had water in the wheels
Over here it was water with magnesium to avoid rust.
Many folk here in the Canadian Prairies use Calcium in the tires.
The old tractor is coming on really well Marty.👍👍
When you were cleaning the filter, i said to myself, i told him to get an ultrasonic cleaner and no sooner that that you said, i need an ultrasonic cleaner and i dont have one of those... lol
That front trailer hitch is sure going to come in handy bro. Worked out a lovely Valentine's gift for the wife too. Safe travels
Marty: takes a couple looks at a part...takes it apart
Me: let me take 6 pictures of this before I even think about taking this apart
Yes...the bit with the magnet screen was amazing to me...6 or 8 different pieces dropped in the bin randomly. And back they go in a jiffy!
He's filming for himself, not us!
Great videos I wish we were neighbor's so that I could learn from you. stay healthy .
Looks really good but please add a roll over bar, a friend died aged 19 when he rolled his parent's tractor
I think this is a valid point, especially if someone inexperienced is going to be using it. No reason why he could not fabricate a ROPS for it Of course, fresh paint might make a ROPS stick out like a sore thumb against the patina of the rest of the metal....
A valid concern but after 30 years sitting on primordial semi-swamp, I am not sure what frame Marty would find sound enough to weld on; perhaps a couple of "wheelie bars" out the back end.
Came here to say this. ROPS is a must. Maybe a 4 point system off the rear axle and somewhere up front might be appropriate given the suspect nature of the frame?
A ROPS bar saved me when my Chinese Jinma rolled over on a slope. I just hung on to the wheel and climbed out when it stopped on its side. Gave me a hell of a fright. I widened the track to prevent it happening again.
Awesome video as always Marty. It’s nice to watch a Family orientated video. God bless you and your family Marty.
