If my research is correct then this is the final episode - complete with break.
The contestants are: Lisa & Mark, Teresa & Barbara, and Jane & Bryan.
Break includes: Bounty, Renault Megane, Dunnes Stores, Powers Whiskey, Tena Lady, Belfast Telegraph, and Renault Megane.

Michael Barrymore is the best, great humour, caring and kind. His connection with people is amazingly beautifu. So tragic we are losing him. Bless you Michael and best wishes. X 😂😂❤❤❤l

Barrymore's walk down the steps at the start is in absolute perfect synch with the music. Note for note, he hits those steps with precision timing.
TrueType a wonderful entertainer . I loved his shows with the children. No one else is as good as him. He was the best.
Ahh yes... 1999. Back then the internet was still pretty much in it's early days, no social media to worry about (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and ITV (and the BBC as well) were actually producing very good happy TV. Love that wee lad Mark, impressing us all with that dance routine, and Barrymore giving him a hug after the game was over!
I think we hit our peak around these years before the Internet completely took over
Loved him, a true entertainer and genuinely funny! Would love to see him back on the screen again.

Oh- this episode got me in the feels- I’d never heard of MB - not in Oz anyway. Grateful it’s uploaded on here. MB’s demise career wise seems unfair - I love the way he could bring out the funny in anyone. I hope his days are happier now.
I just recently started watching Michael-so sad that he no longer does this! Incredibely talented and hysterically funny man!!!

Interesting that cars back in 1999 were still being sold for about £14000... so whilst people complain about cars being expensive to buy nowadays (in 2024), they haven't increased by much especially when you add on inflation over the years!

Strike it Rich came to an end in 1999 as the format was becoming a bit dull. The ratings for the last series in 1999 averaged just 6 million per show, compared to 16 million back when it was named Strike it Lucky.
I thought the format itself was brilliant and timeless. Michael Barrymore absolutely made it. I think the mistake was changing the name and presentation to Strike it Rich, which gave it a cheap American gameshow feel and left many fans of Strike of Lucky thinking this was a different show.
A lot of brash gameshows suffered post-Millionaire.
6 million is much more than what anything nowadays would bring in, that's for sure!
@@TheSpotify95 Yes, but this was 1999, when linear figures meant everything. Multi channel availability was the start of the shrinking of viewing figures. 1980s when video recorders arrived saw the slow shrinking, but multi channel caused a big decline and then streaming came and went for the kill
15:31 Adverts are coming up. Our cousin was round and kept predicting the adverts. Did this for a week and we couldn't work out how. Its annoyingly obvious when he finally told us.

It was nearly recorded "as live" indeed, however the chat at the start with the contestants usually lasted a lot longer than what was seen on TV, usually around 15 minutes altogether, followed by the game. An average episode would take no longer than an hour to film, and so they could film four episodes in one day if they wished.

Watching these is a nice breath of fresh air but a lot of this wouldn't be allowed these day for good reason, I wonder what was too much that he said about religion that had to be cut though with the 3rd couple.

Leave him alone. It was a unlucky series of initiated Fucks that led to high jinx of which Barrymore had nothing to do with. If anything, Barrymore was guilty of taking drugs and should have done time for that.
He was a touch below his normal self here? Ive been watching many episodes and for me, he seems a bit bored and ready to move on here. The golden days of television, no pc / political / woke nonsense to spoil what we saw on the box. A far away world from today.... even the adverts were normal and not virtual signalling to us!
