- Using Fusion 360 sheet metal to model a small air chuck/tool holder for the shop. We will build it in the next video. They are super handy and way better than the coffee can I had screwed to the wall. And honestly, there are not a lot of sheet metal projects shared on YT.
I want to share with you some of the things I learned about using the new sheet metal tools in Fusion 360, as well as some good work flow practices.
The Space Mouse I use in Fusion 360 is amazing. Here's a link if you are interested: amzn.to/2DxZkOm

This was really useful, Preston. I haven't messed with the sheet metal functions yet but as I get set up in my new space I can see this as being incredibly useful. I need to organize!! Thanks for the introduction...
Best wishes,
TZ
You could take the with parameter and for the distance on the side you enter with / 4 / 2. For the distance between the holes you enter with / 4. With thad you have equal distances between the holes and half the distance to each side.
Great video.
Keep up the good work
I believe using the "pattern" function on the "create" drop down menu will allow you to create equal spacing of your circles. Great video!!
Hmmm.....Ya. One direction. I'll play with that. Thanks. ~P
rectangular pattern; complete the one slot first, might also be able to use slot function
Neil Jensen I'm not familiar with the slot function. I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip. ~P
@sbirdranch Great video, I was hoping you were going to cut this on cnc plasma! Any chance of a follow up video showing how to complete the Fusion 360 setup for plasma cutting?
There is a chance for sure....however I still (kicking myself) haven't finished the plasma table. It is going to be miserable hot this coming weekend so I'm promising myself that I will make more moves in that direction. ~P
I just create a set of 6 Parameters
Width 200mm
Height 100mm
NumHoles 6 how many holes do you want
Hole (1/2)*25.4 this lets me add imperial sizes in to the mix
HoleGap Width/Numholes
EndHoleGap (Width/Numholes)/2 Equally spaces the holes from each end
create the first hole with Hole Parameter for the size and dimension it from 1 corner using Height/2 and endholegap for the 2 dimensions, then create a sketch pattern and use numholes for the quantanty and holegap for the spacing, change distance type to spacing and hey presto a fully Parameterised sketch.
That makes sense. I think I'll give it a try just for giggles. Are you familiar with using 'mm' after a dimension when in an imperial based drawing? It converts for you, but leaves your parameter in mm. It was an easy way for me to mix in a metric shaft spacing in a drawing I just completed. ~P
I wasn't aware of that, as a UK based user we work in mm, but that is definitely info to remember.
the whole imperial/metric stuff winds me up, we even still have some things that still come in imperial sizes,, we have pints of milk/beer for example but paint and petrol is in litres.
Michael Shore It works the other way too. I think you add `in` after the number and it will show up metric.
Awesome. I need to spend some more time in Fusion 360. Question: How do yo access the Shop Drawing screen that you show at the one minute mark? Thanks.
In the top left corner of the F360 window where you choose Model, CAM, etc....The last item is Drawing. You have to create the drawing by selecting "From Design" and then clunking your way through. The drawing tool can be less than elegant, but it works. It creates a separate file and you can export them as PDF or print them direct out of F360 (new feature). I know not everyone wants to play with Fusion, so I try and make a drawing available for things that might be of interest. I have started putting them on my web site for the CNC Plasma table. What web site? www.sbirdranch.com (shameless plug) ;) ~P
lol shameless indeed :) Thank you. It will be nice to have a formatted portable visual to work off of for once.
