i’m kicking my feet in the AIR. also Zach would have so much to say
FINALLY y’all are talking about classic cinema
Ok the song ultra violet is a bop 🙌
My favorite scene is when she showed up to the party dressed as an olive 😂😂😂
And found out her friends betrayed her. 😅
"They spy a lot." I feel like that was also a big stapple in 2000s movies lol
the movie that began my love affair for Aaron Taylor-Johnson and also my campaign for his freedom 😭💔
for months i would randomly say 'i wrote a song abt you its called bitch in uniform' in a bad british accent bcos it just made me laugh so hard
I looooved this movie growing up 🙌
I still quote it
Yessss me too!
Small correction - lush when used as an adjective means great or gorgeous - as a noun a lush is an alcoholic! Don’t call your British love interest a lush!
It's lowkey a crime that you didn't talk about the olive costume and the banger that is ultraviolet but I still loved this episode 😊😊
Recommendation for another iconic British classic - Bend it like Beckham!!
Hi, British person here. 16 is the legal age for sex and 18 for alcohol. It feels like we all do this way younger than you, I remember seeing kids from school (13 or 14) absolutely hammered on the residential steets on a Friday night.
Also- the "club" I'm guessing they are referring too is a Working Men's Club/ Community Club/ or Village Hall which would have a spare function room upstairs from the regular adult patrons. The upstairs room normally has a separate bar, usually has a stage of some form for a hired DJ etc and would be useful for all occasions; Christenings, Wakes, Charity nights, birthdays of ALL ages, U12's football awards, school discos, and more. So it is very common! And a cost effective in a community hub, usually in a residential area 😊 a 15 year old birthday party would have a dozen adults present at least 😅
So glad you watched this, a blast from the past! More British Classics on the Pod please 🤞🏻
Little note, drinking age is 5(at home), to buy beer, wine in a restaurant with family its 16 and 18 for harder spirits
I was OBSESSED with the book series in middle school! I remember when the movie came out while I was in high school, it definitely seemed a bit more bubblegummy and tamer than the books. The books were WAY hornier and more crass, but also genuinely laugh-out-loud funny.
I love that they loved this movie as much as I did growing up but if Kelsey calls Lindsey “Heather” one more time I’ll pop 😅😅😅😅
This book series was my go to comfort read - the only book that I would actually be cry laughing out loud throughout the whole thing and it would happen on every reread. Never got old 😂 so happy y’all watched this
Her sister in the books is one of the funniest characters in any books ever.
@@Meg_Sprite so true! Didn’t do her justice in the movie but she is a real treasure in the books
In the books Georgia really learns and grows. Really would have loved a tv show about it
I'd say in the UK having parties in clubs isn't normal at that age, but house parties with all genders and booze from 15-17 before you do start going to clubs is very normal. I think a large part of it is the adults know the kids are going to be drinking and all the other stuff, might as well let them do it at home where they're safe rather than in a park or something
I was so obsessed with this movie growing up. OMG. I MEMORIZED NEARLY THE ENTIRE MOVIE.
So i grew up in Mexico and there we had “quinceañeras” which is basically a sweet sixteen party but at 15!
So i read the Angus, thongs and full-frontal snogging series at about 13-14 y.o. and thought nothing odd about her party wishes due to our culture. Some people would rent out wedding venues and have a formal quinceañera and others would rent out clubs and have more of an adult bday party🎉
I cannot BELIEVE you guys reviewed my favorite movie of my teenage years
"A badge of honor" to be the last Generation to talk to people without the internet (Millennials). Never thought of it that way, but I dig it!
Edited to add: Garrick and Kelsey's "big sibling"-like advice for Rainie is so heartwarming but also GREAT advice!!
I just screamed when I saw the title of this video
Aww, Zach's commentary would have been so fun for this! But I love yall Kelsey & Garrick!
My dad bought me this book and when i saw the title i was like uhhh what? But he had read a passage about her grandad farting and thought it was the funniest thing, and then I was obsessed with them for years ❤
This movie has a really great soundtrack. I loved these books so much. It’s such a fun series. I wish they made more movies.
Who here still says like "nippy noodles" and "ho hum pigs bum" because of this book series
Ultraviolet will forever be one of my favorite songs lol
Please do: Easy A, Step up 3, Edge of Seventeen, John Tucker Must Die, Princess Diaries, BURLESQUE, Melissa McCarthy month and finally Now You See Me
Shoutout to Gurinder Chadha for adapting this cult classic! 👏🏽
oh my god i had no idea she was behind this movie!! okay, between this and bend it like beckham, she is a BEAST. i owe her my childhood.
This movie was actually a Fast & Furious prequel, before the girls get into the LA racing scene
THE WAY I GASPED this is such a classic
Oh my gosh!!! I loved the books series, I wish they’d do a reboot!
Those books were so important to me! They are so funny.
THERES A BOOK SERIES?!?!?!?!?!
Just a small correction, the American Library Association is an organization that promotes literacy among our nations libraries and advocates against banned books. A banned book means that some government regulation or some organization have banned the books inclusion in libraries and in school curriculum for whatever reasons, but the American Library Association advocates for its inclusion.
Also totally loved the little advice session at the end - as a 32 yr old I wish I had this advice in my 20s 😂
theres a whole series! the first book is angus, thongs and full frontal snogging (as in kissing with lips and bodies facing) and its as chaotic as the movie implies. they took a lot of heavy creative license for parts of it for sure. but i read it fresh out of high school and it was hilarious.
editing to add, the books are written in diary format, by Louise Rennison
I havent seen this movie but i read this book in 6th grade and it became a part of me to the point i call my parents "mutti" and "vatti" like the girl in the book ever since then.
49:25 I’m 30 and love the advice you gave Garrick and Kelsey ❤
7:27 British Teenagehood in the media is usually more dark and realistic.
I never thought this movie would get covered!! This movie is my absolute favorite 😍😍 thank you for talking about this one!!
Grew up on this movie. It would play on Nick a lot I believe. Robbie was the pinnacle of hotness to me growing up.
this movie was WILD 😂 thank you for talking about it!
OHHH MY GOD MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES OF ALLLLL TIME IM SCREAMINGGGGG!!!!
i was literally slumped on my desk dreading work when garrick gave that advise on being in your 20s. I think I needed to hear that.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE GROWING UP!! This is the movie that made me fall in love with Aaron Taylor Johnson
thanks garrick for mentioning acid rap….. I haven’t listened to this album for a loooong time, and it was also a big feature in my early twenties (I’m also 32 lol)……. I had a cry for some good and bad stuff I had gone through then, and it made me so happy to reflect on how much I’ve grown since I first listened ❤❤❤ also this film slaps, top 5 coming of age movies imo, also the soundtrack to the movie is great, ultraviolet is one of my favourite not real songs (the song robbie’s band songs at the end) and i’m genuinely sad it wasn’t mentioned haha
Growing up British if you hadn't watched this movie you were basically and outcast😂
didn’t know I needed this, ily besties thank youuuuus
peak cinematic experience!
KELSEYYYYYY MAAAAA'AAAAM,
"justice" is just Limited Too. idk how common those stores are everywhere else but our mall has one, I only knew they were the same bc the font and location didnt change at all. I could never even afford to buy anything there but it was THE PINACLE of tween fashion
Shout out to Kelsey for repping no drinking!
this movie legitimately changed my brain chemistry as a child
Never pressed play so fast, I love this movie
this movie and wild child are my fav movies growing up
Did you know that the actress that plays the main character is actually in a committed relationship with Rupert grint? ❤
I am SO obsessed with this film, you’ve made me a very happy Brit
Him saying Aaron taylor Johnson wouldn’t be James Bond but he is!!!!!!!! 😂😍
Uhm… he’s been *offered* the role and has yet to accept it because it’s reportedly causing conflict with his kraven the hunter obligations
I had to pause this, go watch it and come back. This movie made me feel 14 all over again!
as a Brit who watched this movie when I was 13/14 with my group of 4 girl friends we did the ranking game and I still think about it to this day 💀 we were brutalllllll! I feel so bad for all of us 😭😭
Also you're so right about girl politics and being the last one to kiss a boy and friends getting boyfriends before you being the most friendship breaking thing oh my god it was all so dramatic and complicated 😅
Omg I read all these books growing up. So excited!
I loooved this book series back in middle school
bold of you guys to assume i ever had any energy when I got into my twenties. i’ve been exhausted since i was 16
hiring a club is not a common 15 year old bday party activity in the UK at all don't worry lol, most you'd see is being hiring out a youth centre / community centre hall
i remember the pencil test! i’ve always passed lmao
this is the one i have been WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!
I loved the movie and the whole book series it’s based on, growing up! I’m crying 😭
omg what a stellar throwback!
LOVE THIS!
OMG I was hoping you guys would do this one
This is the best episode yet! Dropping jems at the the wnd there. Very relateable and very much facts.
I still hope in case you‘re looking for more guilty pleasures that are actually guilty, that you watch a german movie like Fack ju Göhte. Its a teen movie about a ex convict who has to pretend to be a teacher to get access to the cash he stole from a bank, the only problem? they assign him the most disliked class with loads of problem students. It definitely united an entire generation of germans the way a lot the pre-strike american 90s movies did. It’s also one of the most successful german movies ever (along with Schuh des Manitu, a winnetou parody which I would also highly recommend as it is very funny AND guilty)
THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE!!!!!!!!
I loved those reflections about your 20s highkey
YES OMG. this is one of my favourite movies ever lol not even a guilty pleasure
Omg omg please do Easy A as an episode of you haven’t already, I’m dying to hear the opinions
Omfg!!! I love this book series! Movie was so great!
I still can’t believe this movie was Nickelodeon made🤣🤣. I remember watching it in 5th grade and knowing it was risqué
I can't believe you didn't mention that Alan Davies is the dad 😂
I have never clicked on an episode so fast
I've been WAITING for this one
YESSSSSSS MY ULTIMATE GUILTY PLEASURE MY ADOLESCENCE
automatic like for reviewing this
I forgot Garrick was Angelino until he said the Bridge, may it rest in leave. Ifykyk especially the black folk 😂
I LOVOROEOEKEEBE THIS MOVIEEEEE
Omg I watched this as a kid on Nickelodeon I think 😂😂 it was so funny
Remember MTV Sweet 16 tv show 😂
You need to check out ‘Tomorrow, when the war began’. Australian brilliance xx
When you're back to Hollywood movies I think if you covered Lake Placid and Wrong Turn it'd be hilarious and a lot of fun.
I LOVE the books and movie! :)
It’s a pleasure with a guilty concept
i love this and i just have to say that my formative years were spent consuming two vastly different british teen media: angus, thongs and perfect snogging and skins lmao
I read this book series in middle school. I remember it being AMAZING. Very cringe, but realistic for teens. Also liked the movie.
A masterpiece 🤘🏻👏🏻👏🏻💋
kelsey looks extra pretty in this ep
Recommendation: The Dressmaker (Australia, 2015).
If you loved this and want something that's DEFINITELY a guilty pleasure, I highly recommend checking out the Taiwanese drama Lost Romance. Soap opera family drama, romance, a hot CEO, and sci-fi linked coma dreams 😭 I think you guys would love it, my friends and I adored how good and terrible it was.
I watched this when it airs on Nickelodeon I was 7 and so embarrassed to get caught watching this. I would change the channel every commercial break so my sister wouldn’t make fun of me.
Stop it!!!! I saw this movie as a teenager 😂ps in an Aussie
Youre telling me all this time it was angus COMMA thongs? I always thought the movie was about a british girl named angus thongs
Ok gotta do Super Star next
Zach would love Survive Style 5+ (its a foreign film, and it has Vinnie Jones in it) Rainie pls if you see this im begging you
