@@DavionLane In retrospect, it feels like Miya spending time on secondaries kept his G&W from improving, perhaps even making him less effective. Now that he's focusing exclusively on G&W, his level of play has gone up a lot. I think it's decently likely that, had he had his current form, he wouldn't have lost to some of the people he lost to at his three US events. What supports this idea is that Maister's worst placements this year are at Japanese tournaments.
Also, he's already won a major in the USA last year. So he clearly can win the US.
