My favorite Clash song. My dad and I used to fight a lot in my teenage years but everytime we were alone together, we would listen to this. I still remember being 5 and singing the chorus at the top of my lungs with him in the car. Our family is Spanish but I never connected the dots until now. Dad passed 5 months ago, I hope he knows that everytime I play this, I’m thinking of him and wishing we could sing this at the top of our lungs for one last time. Miss you Reginaldo Peres, you’ll always be my Spanish bomb.

This actually might be my favorite song of all time. Musically great, but lyrically intelligent and educated. There is little doubt in my mind that listening to The Clash made me more aware of the world around me and my place in it. This album gave me a thirst for knowledge and led me to attaining a history degree. I hope to someday teach future generations about the world the way Joe taught me.
"This album gave me a thirst for knowledge and led me to attaining a history degree" Talk about a siren's song leading you into the rocks. What the fuck do you even do with a history degree besides go back to living with your parents and bussing tables at TGI Fridays?
@@ItsMcDude hah! I am definitely not working in the history field (a huge majority don't work in the field they studied), but I don't regret the degree for a second. It expanded my knowledge and critical thinking skills, I did it for me, not for some job. but I have been considering going back for a master's or teaching certificate lately.
This song honestly might feature Strummer's best lyricism. That third verse (Starting with "The hillsides ring with 'free the people!') is just unreal.
Hard to believe that the days of ’39 were just 40 years before this. London Calling is now 44 years old. A boppy history lesson in just three minutes. Mick and Joe always sang with so much conviction. Love the final guitar bend.

And I’m very glad, being American the Spanish Civil War very much echos the state of my country today.

Fedrico Lorca ❤❤❤❤❤ la amé forever, The clash yo te quero infinito!!!!
My favourite song by The Clash. Contrasts contemporary Spain (with its beaches, casinos, and many tourists) with its violent history (a murderous authoritarian successfully coming to power) and instability hidden just under the surface, in which Western tourists are unaware or ignorant to the countries disturbing politics. The song mixes unsettling political and historical references ("Federico Lorca is dead and gone" "The freedom fighters died upon the hill") with trivial and superficial phrases ("Spanish weeks in my disco casino" "I'm flyin' in on a DC 10 tonight") and nonsensical Spanish lyrics. The songs upbeat positive tune also contrasts with the stark lyrics.

I was 20 when i bought this just on the strength of i fought the law.a cover song.this album changed me me in a way i have never recovered from.god bless the boys from england with gituars and a superior drummer.
I'm just sad about Catalonia. One of those moments where a new society was imagined, and crushed.
Hang in there Rojava.

@@kevinwillems8720 Rojava is literally capitalist lmfao, they get their money from selling oil and are (were, now getting crushed by the Turks) supported by American soldiers.
Came back to this song after what's happening in Gaza, history repeats itself
The Spanish civil war was a fight against communism, what is happening now in Gaza is just mass murder of the Palestinian people
Yep, a new kind of fascism crushing the oppressed, free Palestine!
My favorite Clash song. I think. Hard call, but yes, when of the best for content and melody.
A Fantastic song. I don't even know how they pulled this off
A lot of us are still trying to figure that out, let alone what came after.
@Bill Carson By the way it's Español (pronounced Es_ PAN_yol) not Espenol. The first Spanish lyric, "ventana" means window. The Spanish lyric, "Señorita" pronounced Sen-YOR-it's means miss as in Miss So and so. The Spanish lyrics in the chorus, "yo te quiero infinito, yo te acueda, oh mi corazón" means "I love you to infinity, I remember you, oh my heart"
By the way, Señorita is pronounced Sen-YOR-ita not Sen-YOR-it's- it was just annoying autocorrect.
'I want you forever, I remember you' a beautiful song
@Bill Carson What's the name on the grave?
My favourite song of all time from my favourite band. This song has everything. I saw The Clash 14 times. When they were on form there are not many bands ever that could better them live.
LYRICS:
Spanish songs in Andalucía
The shooting sites in the days of '39
Oh, please, leave the vendanna open
Federico Lorca is dead and gone
Bullet holes in the cemetery walls
The black cars of the Guardia Civil
Spanish bombs on the Costa Rica
I'm flying in a DC 10 tonight
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
Spanish weeks in my disco casino
The freedom fighters died upon the hill
They sang the red flag
They wore the black one
But after they died it was Mockingbird Hill
Back home the buses went up in flashes
The Irish tomb was drenched in blood
Spanish bombs shatter the hotels
My senorita's rose was nipped in the bud
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
The hillsides ring with "Free the people"
Or can I hear the echo from the days of '39?
With trenches full of poets
The ragged army, fixin' bayonets to fight the other line
Spanish bombs rock the province
I'm hearing music from another time
Spanish bombs on the Costa Brava
I'm flying in on a DC 10 tonight
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
Spanish bombs, yo te quiero infinito
Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón
Oh mi corazón, oh mi corazón
Spanish songs in Andalucía, Mandolina, oh mi corazón
Spanish songs in Granada, oh mi corazón
Vaya pedazo de canciones: " Spanish Bombs","Should I stay or should I go","London Callin".....son geniales
Guernica set to music.
I'm hearing music from another time
Escucho música de otros tiempos
My favorite part of the song so beautiful
To think where the Clash were with the eponymous album 2 and a half years earlier both musically and lyrically to releasing London Calling is night and day, when this came out I bought it within a day or two of it’s release date and it blew me away..it was, is and shall forever remain my favourite album of all time ❤️
Love it❤
mon morceau favori du Clash !!
El mejor grupo punk de la historia!
Fantastic song. So catchy. This would have been a great single.
This has always been my favorite clash song, after becoming an anarchist I love it even more.
✊❤🖤🔥
I really like this album, every song is great, and Joe Strummer has secured a place among the immortals as a musician and poet, and The Clash as a band as well...
Top class tune by a a top class band. I've always loved The Clash.
Hermosa música. Gran banda
In 1999, I was 15, it was the 20 year anniversary of the album; it was in a special showcase in Tower Records in Mountain View, California. Looked cool, bought it. Was blown away!
