Harriet Tubman's road to freedom
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2019
- Harriet Tubman, a tiny woman who could neither read nor write, pulled off superheroine-like exploits in the years before the Civil War. With the help of the Underground Railroad, she not only escaped from a Maryland plantation to freedom in the North, she went back, 13 times over 10 years, to guide more than 70 enslaved people to freedom. And during the war, she became the first American woman to lead troops into battle, near Beaufort, S.C. Martha Teichner visits historic sites that were part of Tubman's remarkable life story, and with actress Cynthia Erivo, who plays the iconic figure in a new biopic, "Harriet."

To teach the multi ethnic African American it's true heroes, or their accomplishments. Is too much for this country to bear. It means all that are in darkness, can shine once in the light...
For many this is true. But other than her friendship that gave her a farm nothing much is news to me. I was blessed to have African American teachers of history class in grade school who were history majors themselves. Especially in 7th grade I learned a great deal about Ms Tubman and her work freeing slaves, leading troops to battle and being part of the first wave feminist movement.

Idk I grew up in the deep south and my History teachers talked about slavery in great detail. I find early in History courses they have more freedom to express how they feel and I had an amazing history teacher who talked about Harriet Tubman a good bit. But I believe that most of these stories are not required by curriculum, which sucks balls.
@@imunique10 they've touched it now and are lying and twisting her/ our history.
Seth Prestenback yes, I’m very southern as well. I grew up in Louisiana and we talked about Harriet Tubman ALL THE TIME! We talk about black history all school year. She was definitely one of my favorite black historians. But of course, the reason my state focused on black history from other states was probably due to them trying to cover up or make like of the slavery, sharecropping and racist history in our state. Even in Louisiana History course, they will load you up on our states Creole history and Indian history, culture and food but wouldn’t dare talk about slavery. You’d have to go to the state building or on Ancestry for that.
Bored Wife Exactly
A Queen. An authentic hero. A saint. 💜
Harriet Tubman was a remarkable human being. I was proud to bring my granddaughters to her home in Auburn. It’s my understanding that William Seward offered the land to her as a gift, but she insisted on purchasing it, instead. Besides the old folks home for former slaves, there was a brick making business there, as well. William Seward lived close by. It is well worth the effort to go to see both homes and learn some history along the way.
I drove past it. I need to see it💯🔥‼️
