  • Harriet Tubman, a tiny woman who could neither read nor write, pulled off superheroine-like exploits in the years before the Civil War. With the help of the Underground Railroad, she not only escaped from a Maryland plantation to freedom in the North, she went back, 13 times over 10 years, to guide more than 70 enslaved people to freedom. And during the war, she became the first American woman to lead troops into battle, near Beaufort, S.C. Martha Teichner visits historic sites that were part of Tubman's remarkable life story, and with actress Cynthia Erivo, who plays the iconic figure in a new biopic, "Harriet."

I bet they won't tell you they rapped her mother and father in front of Harrett before they sold her and yes her beauty radiated all over the sea I bet they won't tell you she was going to be put on the $20.00 bill but Trump opposed it and it's not going to happen now. We talk about black history all school year. She was definitely one of my favorite black historians. But of course, the reason my state focused on black history from other states was probably due to them trying to cover up or make like of the slavery, sharecropping and racist history in our state. Even in Louisiana History course, they will load you up on our states Creole history and Indian history, culture and food but wouldn’t dare talk about slavery. You’d have to go to the state building or on Ancestry for that.

It’s my understanding that William Seward offered the land to her as a gift, but she insisted on purchasing it, instead. Besides the old folks home for former slaves, there was a brick making business there, as well. William Seward lived close by. It is well worth the effort to go to see both homes and learn some history along the way.

Their lives were miserable down here but they have no troubles in Heaven, so happy that Harriet and other believers like Harriet are living in eternal happiness with The Lord Jesus Christ. Can't say the same of their oppressors who never repented. They will forever suffer in Hades, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 5:3-12, Matthew 25:46. Can't wait to meet Harriet in Heaven and others who had such miserable lives down here. What a true servant of the Lord!

Yet, I am learning more and more each day! I truly love you "Harriet Tubman!" I thank God for you! I pray that your selflessness, greatness inspires a whole new generation of "Harriet Tubman's" both male and female, young and old, "African Family" and other ethnicities! Thank you God for the movie "Harriet," Cynthia Erivo, Kasi Lemmons, Martin Chase and all of the actors and actresses and crew that put their souls into bringing "The Great Harriet Tubman's Story" to the world! I can't wait to see it...again and again and again...and purchase tickets for our youth to learn about her greatness!!
