Just that this game twist they make the bad guys good and the good guys bad.

It was a given in Norse mythology that if the weapon was magical, it had a soul. To the extent that it would refuse to be draw under certain conditions in some cases. The name of Arteus’s sword/Freyr’s sword (Ingrid) is Summerbrandr, or Summerbrand. Turns out that he was destined to be slain by it by Surtr after he traded it for marriage to an ice giant.
I love how the game gives you a little more insight on how manipulative Odin can be especially towards Thor. Notice in the beginning how Thor was refraining from drinking and was making a lot of sense on things such as Loki being in Asgard. Then to have Odin belittle him for thinking and saying "I liked you better as a drunk" because Thor is more manageable drunk than sober. If Thor is half giant like Loki then there's no reason why Thor shouldn't be intelligent like most giants half breed or not. This can shows that Thor was raised to only be a killer for his father sadly.
Tbf the game does warn you about spending as much time with him as possible before it's not a possibility. Just not in the way they make you think initially

To me all the dialogue is translated into the parlance of our time so it's relatable to us. That said, I like it better when they stick as close to the original idioms and thought processes as possible; not for language realism but for _cultural_ diversification. Like when "Japanese" appear in Hollywood movies, often they not only talk like Californians with a goofy accent; they _think_ like Californians. _Kill Bill_ benefited greatly from having the foreign characters talk and _think_ like they would in a way that's new and unique for the audience. When the old Japanese sword-maker talks in English, he still keeps to the types of topics and attitudes he has when he's in Japanese; the yakuza guys banter like how Japanese people do when they're shit-faced drunk, and the old kung-fu bastard talks like an old Chinese bastard, with the appropriate brand of racial animal-comparisons that you would hear from Chinese racists which is different from American racism. _Kill Bill's_ not realistic, but it does a better-than-usual job of making each country _feel_ like a different country. The Odinssons work well as a stand-in for dysfunctional white American families; but having them act and think like actual Nords would've been even cooler.
@@RomanvonUngernSternbergnrmfvus There's always the option of getting actual Norse actors. But given the American casting, the actors' natural accents is a perfectly valid approach.
Honestly I'd like it either way. There is something about Odin's American banter that makes him seem so real it just immerses me right into the story once he starts talking. But at the same time I would also think a more Norse approach would be really cool in it's own way. I think that for the American relatableness they went for that they couldn't have done any better, his voice actor did an amazing job
They have to modernize the dialogue for entertainment. Would be a snooze fest. I agree though I would expect more people to have an accent at least of that area. Odin was great either way.

Atreus: My sword, actually. And I heard Leviathan and the Blades of Chaos, too. They've been pretty chatty for quite a while, a few years, actually. You should polish them more often.
Kratos: ... This is my life, now. And I suppose the spear also speaks? (Summons a Draupnir spear)
Draupnir, with a legion of different voices: We stand ready to serve, general. Point us at your enemies, and we will see them bested.
Kratos: ... 😐
Atreus: Father?
Kratos: ... 😊
Thor is part giant. Makes sense that he could communicate in the way Atreus could. He probably could also hear Ingrid.
Atreus: Mimir.
Mimir: Yes, laddie.
Atreus: You talk kinda funny.
Mimir: Ach, how dare you laddie!
🤣😂
This game’s twist is amazing. Like how real mythology Loki is an evil trickster, in this game he’s also a trickster: almost convinced Thor to be good, get on some asgardians’ good side, and the things he does that sometimes lead to chaos is his god of mischief version of the game. Just that this game twist they make the bad guys good and the good guys bad.
Giants
You sound like wendigoon
Lmao i would talk to my weapon if i was a good. Imagine zeus that boi probably strokes the bolt like a cat on his lap
I see it as the same reason people talk to their cars. Sometimes inanimate objects provide better company than people, and in Thor's case I doubt he has many people he can confide in so he turns to the one thing that's never let him down
Thank you.
Wtf, I never thought about this.
Thor being half giant like Atreus makes sense.
Thor is 3 quarters giant, Odin is half giant
@@jonathanpilcher337
Odin's half giant in real Norse Mythology. In GOW, his lineage is unknown.
Considering GOW Odin can't sense spirits and he's not good with language, it's difficult to believe he's any part giant.
@@Kay_The_Coffee_Weirdo the god of war wiki says otherwise, I can't send links or apparently even mention the dreaded g-word though(thanks youtube!), so just look up 'god of war fandom odin' and 'god of war fandom bestla'
@@Kay_The_Coffee_Weirdo its possible that Odin just rejects his giant lineage, and refuses to use those powers
Now imagine if the spear has broks soul
I can only dream of that sadly.😢
brok during the Heimdall fight just cursing him out for being a cocky upstart
Volley from the sky of a 1000 pointy Broks like "Hey FUCK-FACE! You fergot some'in'!"
And the blades of chaos have Ares…
He also places a bit of mead on the hammer upon the first meeting with Kratos.
The blades of chaos: "see Kratos; youre not the only one who hears voices."
Kratos: 'Silent grunt'
Odin sounds and talks kinda like Saul Goodman here, lol
And he gets to talk to a sword? What a sick joke!
Well at least Ingrid sort of talks back, Mjolnir just sits there and listens
mjolnir is really good at listening to people, including their screams.
You don't want to know what Thor pays for a 24/7 therapy session with Dr. mjolnir
Even during casual conversation, Odin can't help but be manipulative. Amazing
Thor is half giant, talking to souls trapped in weapons is a giant thing
Jotunn: < Can talk to the souls inside enchanted weapons. >
Odin: -HATES the Jotunn.-
Yeah, makes sense he'd hate anything that can talk to the souls of animated weapons.
Where is it stated that giants can talk to weapons?
It was a given in Norse mythology that if the weapon was magical, it had a soul. To the extent that it would refuse to be draw under certain conditions in some cases. The name of Arteus’s sword/Freyr’s sword (Ingrid) is Summerbrandr, or Summerbrand. Turns out that he was destined to be slain by it by Surtr after he traded it for marriage to an ice giant.
Yeah my parents get disturbed when I talk to my sword.
Odin being genuinely good: Don't talk to your sword
I love how the game gives you a little more insight on how manipulative Odin can be especially towards Thor. Notice in the beginning how Thor was refraining from drinking and was making a lot of sense on things such as Loki being in Asgard. Then to have Odin belittle him for thinking and saying "I liked you better as a drunk" because Thor is more manageable drunk than sober. If Thor is half giant like Loki then there's no reason why Thor shouldn't be intelligent like most giants half breed or not. This can shows that Thor was raised to only be a killer for his father sadly.
I wish the game could warn me that after the last mission I wouldn't play with Atreus 😭 I miss him
I liked having Freya back, though
@@JackgarPrime yea she is cool but I miss hearing Atreus having a Father-Son moment with Kratos
Wait, when do we not get to have Atreus again? After the whole thing with the chick in Ironwood?
@@squidymeares by the end of the game hes off to go get ready for one of the future god of wars
Tbf the game does warn you about spending as much time with him as possible before it's not a possibility. Just not in the way they make you think initially
The face of Kratos digesting what boi and head is talking about.
When Odin deadpan cautioned Atreus not to talk to his weapons, I just bussed out laughing.
This is even funnier after Thor: Love & Thunder!😂
Both Ingrid and Mjolnir are sentient and they hate each other for some reason.
I get "cat and dog" vibes, given how Thor and Loki historically get along.
Yeah they definitely hate eachother.
During the barfight in Asgard, you can witness Mjolnir and Ingrid fighting eachother while everyone is distracted.
I mean, Ingrid's original owner was tortured by Mjolnir's owner. They have bias/affection to their owners
Mjolnir has no soul, if it did, Atreus would be able to hear it.
@@tatersalad76Was Thor with the group of minor Aesir that burned Freyr? From what Mimir said Odin saw the benefit of better crops for Asgard and wanted to keep him around, and it’s hard to believe Thor would defy him back then.
Can't unhear Ezra Bridger in his performance...
“no…just a weird bloke”😂
Freya at the end explains that freyr made Ingrid with consciousness while forging it. it's not a giant thing that's never mentioned in the game at any point.
Charming the steel? Is that a thing?
its kinda like a tradition or something.
like you are charming the steel so it will work better in a fight and wont let you down by suddenly breaking during a fight.
Respect and care for your weapon, And the weapon will always protect you.
mimir's "noo.." sounded so disgusted
Odin had a party at Shaegorath's place, just look at those "Fine Clothes"
I have a feeling this was them throwing shade at marvel
No. It was simply a reference to Giants in-universe and their ability to _hear_ any enchanted weapon talk.
I know that Odin is evil, but the rest of the gods are douchebags, and Odin still isn't as evil as Zeus. That guy, literally tore humans in half, so that they would spend eternity in torture until they found their other half.
Odin killed off an entire race, enslaved and wiped out alot of vanaheim, basically forced the dwarves to work only for him AND he had no regard for his family
@@drewarnett3180 Not as evil as Zeus. A douche yes, but a far sight more reasonable of a douche.
@@drewarnett3180 well lets agree that they are both evil.
zues and odin kills people, schemes, and mostly dont care about family if it wont benefit them.
Odin is consumed by his own quest for knowledge, so much so he's willing to sacrifice anything for it.
Type in UA-cam Atres reminding Kratos of the horrors Odin have created
Thor: "Odin thinks I'm crazy when I talk to Mjölnr, but when he talks to that broken mask it's all normal"
Y'all don't talk to your weapons? I thought this was common!
Even after beating the game it’s still so jarring to hear Odin talk in a modern tongue like he just left America last week😅they do such a good job explaining the little things like that, I was hoping he’d give a little hint like “I’ve traveled to worlds you couldn’t even imagine”. Then it’d be like “okay that makes sense”. When he says shit like “shit I’ll even sweeten the deal! I’ll deal with my ex” did people back then really just refer to their pass spouses as ex? Highly doubt it lmao
Eh I prefer they play with their limitation and go with the death of Stalin approach vs butchering the dialogue to be accurate and failing.
I think that for the American relatableness they went for that they couldn't have done any better, his voice actor did an amazing job
now that you mention it, the way the everyone in Scandinavia speak sound like a very modern tounge
everyone, except kratos
Odin was such a great casting voice.
Odin: Oh hey Thor, didn’t see u there
I really don't like the Modern Way they talk. I mean it's a bad look? that's something I expect a teenager to say not a god
They have to modernize the dialogue for entertainment. Would be a snooze fest. I agree though I would expect more people to have an accent at least of that area. Odin was great either way.
Personally I think it’s nice not having every fantasy person speak all fancy and (often) British but hey opinions opinions
I think it's kinda been like this throughout the God of War series
The "skirts of Athena" accent style will always triumph this woke garbage
@Jackton Sauron can you cite ONE "woke" line?
I love Odin looks like Santa Claus 🧑🎄 with that christmas hat on
Odin is so passive aggressive. He's like straight out of curb your enthusiasm.
It's just that special bond he has with mjolnir, how we talk to our belongs that we hold close to
I love how Odin wears that little Santa hat. I wonder if it’s a nod to the fact that he was an early inspiration for Santa Claus
I loved that bit in the bar fight where Ingrid and miolnir were fighting lol.
Blade of Chaos: "Korusei"
Kratos: "Wait wha-"
Odin be like: That boy ain't right
I like how it cuts Mimir off when he says "No! Just a weird blo-"
“HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!”
I talk to my sword all the time especially when we're about to slay
“Don’t talk to your sword.”
*Proceeds to talk to birds*
I don’t ever talk to my sword. I gently stroke it.
Bro feels like the hammer is the only friend he has
MCU Thor has a full on romance with his hammer and axe
"Mjolnir, come here boy"
*Whistling sounds*
Aaahhh. Of coudse he reflects it and scares him by gaslighting.
Such an Odin move.
Thor was rizzing up his hammer
Odin in the background looks like an off put Santa Claus.
Mimir: You’re weird Buddy, YOU’RE WEIRD
Thor is just lonely - live in an abusive pantheon long enough, you're bound to make friends with unexpected objects.
