@@bethcosenza8848 I’ve been working with primates for past 9 years. But the article where you got that sentence from actually correctly states. Lip smacking CAN ALSO be a sign of affection or contentment. But no one actually 100% knows even scientists are still discovering more about the meaning and people always disagree. The only thing we do all agree on is that is very important within the troop and more complex that we can possibly imagine. But that is referring to wild monkeys not abused and molested baby monkey. They use it as kind of (I’ll be good please don’t hit me again kinda thing) and when I said other monkey I actually meant the creature (woman)
But regardless of what it says in articles… if you are watching monkey videos on UA-cam you usually see extensive lip smacking from mother to child when she is trying to teach it something or from lower ranking females to alpha or high ranking members but most noticeable when another monkey trying to take a child from low ranking mother and she uses lip smacking as kind of pleading gesture (please don’t take my baby). And monkeys who are being kept as “pets” but are actually current stars on UA-cam abuse videos are using it as submission gesture and expressing fear and anxiety.

Lip smacking also means submission. Baby monkeys will do this with their mothers and off spring as well. This is not a fear smack at all. This woman has formed a good relationship with with this baby monkey as far as
