You are still going to get finger oils on those coins after extended use with those thin cotton gloves...can see your skin through the weave. Consider double-gloving with latex underneath, THEN white cotton gloves over top. Own several sets of cotton gloves; use one for a bit then put in wash; store current pair in zip lock bag when not in use. Handle coins with coin tweezers by edge when possible. Stop coughing and heavy breathing around the coins; wear a facemask to avoid moisture droplets geting on coins that will show up later...found one or two of these years later on mine. Stop dropping coins on the table top...have a rubberized desktop mat(s) from Lighthouse Supply. I learned these lessons the hard way and coming back to my collection after 15+ years and upgrading from Dansco to Lighthouse storage systems...needed to replace several spotted/tarnished proofs from my early handling mistakes.

Among the many ways to potentially damage a coin is cracking them open from their hard plastic cases.
I'd rather keep mine intact , undisturbed

Interesting video. I have a 1971 S proof Eisenhower dollar that has a damaged case and some marks on the coin that I might open up for my Dansco album (it is the last one I need to complete the album.
I also have some 2005 silver proof albums that I got from my aunt after she passed that I might crack open for my Dansco album, as the plastic has some mold spots on it.

So Well . My LCS has Crates full right now for $5.00 each . I found a Mint set of The Presidents collection from 1964 in there and I looked those are going for $35.00 on eBay right now , My LCS also has Walking liberty Halves at $10.00 each and to me that's cheap as I was Paying that for them in 2017 and I watched them go to to $14.00 during the Pandemic . The thing I do like and enjoy about the Mint and Proof sets is They are so clean and new that if you get them Graded your sure to get a good grade and they are fun to Look at . Also Some Really are worth more than the $5.00 for sure as an Investment . It's up to you if your going to buy less than $2,99 face for $5.00 Hey you might get Lucky , you never know :) QC

Now this year in 2023 I have been running into issue of these reverse proof mint sets specifically having toning issues. I have bought several of them on Ebay from different people and they have all had issues with toning. Maybe I am unlucky. The last set I just got only has slight toning on a few coins, so I am going to crack them out and put them in something better as these mint containers are not that great. I cannot believe they just leave one side open with no protection. These 2018 RP sets are not cheap either now running 90+ bucks a pop a ebay. Have a good one.

I feel like if you buy the proof set, why not crack them? If you truly love coins, why would you want to keep them all in the case forever? If you crack them, you get to hold them (even if for a short while) to put them in individual cases so you can enjoy each coin on its own. If you sell them in the slab, it is so the next person knows they are not even touched, so essentially you are giving the joy of you owning it to someone else, then they do the same thing. Life is short; if you have a real love for something, who cares how you choose to enjoy your things. Some people personally like them more in the slab, but if you are sad that you need to keep them in the slab, you don’t have to. You do you.

This is just a warning to me to never buy proof sets online, since there is absolutely no way to know if it/they have been cracked open and cherry picked, leaving the dogs in the "proof set" that's suddenly up for auction as if it were new. In the meantime, the 69s and 70s that frankly 99% of these coins should grade if the mint manufactured them correctly, will never be found in a set since they're all slabbed and flipped 15 times until an actual collector finally decides to keep 'em.

I can't understand this grading theme.
For me there is just no productive element in doing it.
You pay some experts saying your coin looks nice and people pay more.
If you buy a graded coin you just pay for the extra work and don't profit on long term value change just because there have to be a. Loser the old null sum theme.

    • @robertgunther851
