Really well done! I like how you help tease out the difference between showing "real life" vs setting up a scenario in which someone's dyxfunction will be amplified. 😞 I got a teensy view into the world of reality TV when my brother and I auditioned for LEGO Masters. Perhaps this is just my naivete, but what struck me most was how much the show was *cast* rather than *auditioned for*. The producers were looking for a set of flashy personalities they thought would sell on TV. Personalities who would hold attention when placed within a franetic game show environment. During our audition process, we worked with a casting director who'd try to help "pitch us" by simplifying, filtering & exaggerating parts of our story. (Neadless to say we didn't get cast, ultimately.) Your excellent analysis makes me think about how Zeus cast a set of characters and then placed them in an environment where the worst parts of them could be on display. I like that you call out how the forces of capitalism encourage this. I suspect there's (at least) one specificaspect of capitalism at play here: venture-backed enterprises need to provide a return on investment quickly, or be shut down. Risk is not rewarded -- quick wins are. So, while a show which fosters redemption & balance might actually achieve a lot of success eventually, it is much riskier to pull off than quick, toxic spectacle. Toxic spectacle that often fits the racial & genre stereotypes Americans know well 😔 To me, there's at least one thing I can do to help counter this: stick with creatives as they find their voice & niche, even it if takes a while. I feel optimistic that the more decentralized world of online media (UA-cam, TIkTok, Patreon), in contrast to centralized networks like Zues or Netflix, can help foster this. Curious your thoughts!
I really your comment on this it spoke to a lot. That’s really an interesting story about your experience with Lego because evidently it tells a lot about the entire culture of reality tv. And I definitely agree with your last statement. Social media has allowed us to view so many talents that would’ve otherwise gone unnoticed or had have been broken from extensive loopholes. Thank you for watching by the way!
“I genuinely can’t understand how none of them chose to jump that lady from the way that she treated them, since they like to fight so much” 😭 😭 😭 😭 FACTS i say this shit all the time literally!
“Just because something is black owned, doesn’t mean it’s good for you” A mf bar😮💨🔥 this is really sad when all broken down fr.. on all sides; for producing, for participating, and for consuming on a brighter note though, I love the commentary and research you can tell their was a lot of work and thought out into this! keep going 💪🏾
I never understood People makeing a Mockery of there self for a quick bag this is what makez the money in this Generation an what Recently happened with that girl smilily on that show is Disgusting Getting paid off of people's demise is nasty work an the People who consistently support them need to get Therapy
That lady in that second show you talked about does that act from the camera you can tell because it doesn’t sound right when she curses 😂, so tired of the lack of good black media gotten to the point where I’ve watched every episode of family guy more than I can count, I don’t think their gonna stop making content like this eventually people will get bored of it but it will unfortunately have its successor
It’s bizarre that Chrisean and Blueface have a show. Their show really exist.
Right…

Destorm started zues??!!?? wow i used to know him for “What’s up world! it’s…monday” 😂
I used to like him to for his vines and the skits he used to make. But king Bach used to irk me for his stereotyping

Sorry we can’t blame them, we have to blame us as the consumers! We don’t care to watch positive things. There just copying the layout of reality t.v!
