  • We made a DIY Moon which looks like an old vintage paper moon prop display or photo booth. The moon sculpture was created to be used as a photo backdrop or photo op for a 1920's Halloween party. This DIY moon project is the perfect project for trying to create that fun old fashioned picture with friends or selfie. This glowing moon was made of 3/4" plywood and sculpted foam. The carved foam was hard coated and covered with a concrete spray texture. The realistic moon photo booth was given a custom paint job bringing out all the perfect moon face features as well as fluffy clouds. The moon art project was placed in front of a starry night back ground for an even more immersive feel. We were so crunched for time we didn't film more of the process for this crescent moon tutorial. If you're looking into how to make moon decor or a moon craft for a wedding or a high school prom here's an idea. If you are looking to start a DIY moon sculpture or lunar moon project hopefully this video may give you some ideas and inspirations.

    Oh wow guys this is so pretty. Just beautiful. You know, this would look really pretty at a high school homecoming dance. Now that would be something for the kids to remember.

      Yes! The Winchester gets rented out all the time for weddings and proms. They will definitely offer it as apart of their package I'm sure.

    Very nice! I’ve always liked anthropomorphic suns and moons. Yours has that quintessentially ambivalent expression which was characteristic at the time these were popular, though there were some that had a leering/creepy visage. It would have been really neat if the photo op employed a stereoscopic camera (a two-lensed affair) so that a stereoptic (3D) photo could be produced. These types of photos-viewed through what was called a stereopticon-were popular from roughly the 1850s to the 1920s. Well done you two!

    I have never seen something like this before.
    I didn't even know it existed, to be honnest. The result is amazing.
    Your moon has a really vintage look and I love the fact that 3 people can sit at the same time.

      I wonder if McDonald's ever had any fiberglass ones made for their restaurants? If so I wonder if they're collecting dust somewhere or in someone's house 😅

    So nice! I’ve had this kind of project in my mental back pocket (also a photographer) just waiting for the opportunity or client. Of course I hadn’t planned out a build, but this is a lovely execution! I feel like when you guys use foam, it’s going to be more creative, and I wasn’t wrong! Love the craters especially, and The overall build steps are so nice to see.

    Would like more information on how you did the foam face please! 1:18

    • @HollywoodHaunter
      @HollywoodHaunter  7 місяців тому

      We took inspiration from old photos of moon faces and carved it out. We typically use a curry comb (horse brush) to get the majority of foam sanded down. Then to create finer details we use smaller wire brushes and metal files. I carved organically but you could project a face onto the foam to give you reference points.

      Unfortunately this is the only footage we have of this project. We do have other videos of us carving foam that may help. It will show you our process and tools we use.

    How do you prop up the plywood?
    I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a few months.
    Randomly found this video the same day I started to figure out how to make my take on a papermoon bench after several years of sporadic brainstorming.
    No clue how I missed this as my wife and I have watched you for years.
