Awesome job, Carl. Perseverance, timing and skill is what makes a QRP operator successful.... as you have so brilliantly displayed. Even better that your first 6m contact was on a homemade antenna using an old military radio. These are the things I find to be the most enjoyable in this hobby.
Suscess mate pleased you had a good outing there. I am also a fan of Gil's channel and was lucky to have an SSB contact with him on 80m when he was in Northern France. Larry M3 MPD
I know exactly how you feel, today I fired up my (new to me) clansman PRC320 and managed two contacts into spain on the battle whip and 3w. Really chuffed. Good luck, 73.
I've wanted to buy a Clansman radio ever since I started watching Radio Prepper's videos but the shipping to the US is enormous! If you ever travel to the coast you and Gil should try making contact across the channel. Enjoyed the video!
Great to see the Clansman finally get a contact for you on video :) i've really got to look into 6m myself, never really worked on there so will definately look more into doing so. All the best Carl, 73's
Heh! Brilliant mate. Great to see how pleased you were to make that contact! Glad I heard it in real time! Big fan of Gil's channel myself. Catch you next time Carl! 👍👍
Hi Carl, further to this one.....I got a ‘new’ 351 on Friday so had it out testing with a Ground Spike Antenna yesterday. Managed to speak to a friend of mine 26km away! I’ve also managed to get my paws on a Yaesu VX-7R...... it’s got 6m on it too, just trying to convince someone to help me with testing it for range 👍🏻👍🏻.
Us govt shares 6 with amature operators. (ham being secondary.) My best was by accident. In 1973 I made a call to LIma ohio.from plumbrook ohio. The station from grey army / air force Base fort Hood Texas came back to me. On my PRC-25 back pack tranciver. (Used to be stationed there) they recognised my voice. And was recognised. No more than that. But that was the best ever. 6 works . 20 some years later I took the plunge. de Kv4li
Great video Carl. EXCELLENT on the 6m Clansman contact too !! Is the Clansman really narrow filtered, I wonder? Some great tropo on 2m today. I just put a video up of some FM contacts from Peak District late Sunday afternoon. Keep up the good work !
Im going to have a look at that pole. Ive been using the DX commander 10m strpaed to the sparewheel carrier on pand rover for /p as its a good thick pole to the top but obvipusly no gpod for backpack portable so ill have a look atthat
I'd check the top section of your Sotabeams Tactical Mini. It is (I believe) supposed to be hollow all the way through. Mine certainly is, and very handy for poking a paperclip down to form a quick fixing point at the top! Can you blow down it? That should prove one way or the other.
Hi Carl I know this is an old video but I have heard that the Military VHF radios have a much wider bandwidth signal than ham gear and that ham gear will not 'excite' military radios well. Do you find this to be so? I'm a subscriber and I love your channel. Many thanks from Texas. Robert K5TPC
Carl I'll listen out for you on the 6 meters mate I've got a Yaesu FT-950 and I've also got a Watson W-2000 and that does 2/70/6 meters and I've got it low in my back garden but there is a chance that we could possibly make contact on the 6 meters if your out static mobile mate OK. Thanks and best 73's cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.
this is what amateur radio is all about, nice one Carl...

Great! Let's arrange something, I usually have Sunday 11-3 ish and the occasional weekday if I give myself a day off
Sounds like a plan Carl, I’d be doubtful if it would reach to Stoke from where I normally go, but I’m certainly willing to give it a go if you are 👍🏻
I'll probably be up the Peak District or Mow Cop which should be fine
Great, I’ll try to get up to Chapel Fell which is 625m, but it’s weather dependent up there 😂.
A Sunday afternoon between 2-3 would be good for me 👍🏻

Cheers, not sure about the filtering TBH.

Good point, I read it was hollow but then saw it was not, let me check..
Just checked, I had to poke a needle down it, yes it's hollow as described. I'll make a note on the comments.
@@M0SZT Pretty narrow, I have to admit!
I too have yet to have a QSO ) OR hear any one )on either 6 or 4 mtrs on my 352 or my VRM 5080
6m I've never had any luck, but 4m I don't think I have ever put a CQ call out that wasn't responded too.
I will give 4m a go soon.
