It's always funny riding that thing and wondering why more people aren't using it. Most times, I actually get downtown faster riding the train and don't have to worry about finding parking.
I loved riding MARTA when I lived in Atlanta. It being a relatively newer system, the architecture of the stations is just marvelous. After I visited other cities, I also realized how fast MARTA goes compared to them. It's much faster than other systems. I just got back from Toronto and the subway there was super slow.
Nice system I gotta say, the design is simple yet efficient and I really like the genuine rock walls in the underground stations. It's really a nice touch. And I'd recognize that R188/Green Line propulsion sound anywhere. No matter which city I never get tired of hearing that one.

MARTA was not built for the purposes of regional commute nor local commute. It's specifically for the multiple convention centers, the multi purpose arena and the football stadium. This is why all lines have the exact same origin. It's for the tourists, out of town business people and sports enthusiasts. It takes you exactly where it was designed to once you fly into the Atlanta Airport.
Which is really unfortunate, because you can see a lot of people who are clearly locals using the subway. People without cars have to work around it somehow.

It is 2019 and MARTA should be twice as big as it is. In 1990, Atlanta had about 40 miles of rail transit and Denver and Dallas/Ft. Worth had 0 each. Today, Atlanta has 50 miles (including streetcar) while Denver has 90 (light rail and commuter rail) and DFW has 175 (light rail, commuter rail, and streetcar). In 2023, Denver plans to have about 110 miles while DFW will have 200....Atlanta will still be at 50 (and the traffic will still be hell and getting worse).
DART in Dallas is already working on it's Second subway Downtown..it's under construction. And Dallas is getting a Bullet Train as well. Not to mention DFW will be upgrading to Metro Trains instead of Light rails
MARTA was originally planned to be much bigger by now but politics has stopped most efforts to expand. To put it bluntly too many suburbanites have the attitude of "I don't want that train bringing ghetto Blacks out to my nice White World." and keep voting down referendums. And while Atlanta is liberal the state of Georgia is mostly run by hillbilly Republicans that don't want to spend a penny of State money on MARTA.

I live in Dallas Texas now and when I lived in Atlanta for 17 years I love riding Marta. Marta system started 3 years after DC Metro and its a shame the Marta system is no where near miles of rails as the DC Metro. How was DC Metro able to convince the suburbs to get on board with rail and Marta couldn't? SMGDH. The MARTA rail system should be equally as long as the DC Metro today.

When attend Georgia State, I was stuck in traffic many of times communing from the airport area to downtown and then to work at VA Hospital in Decatur. No harm meant you made a great video but there is so much more info you could be added for the viewers. I'm new to Atlanta and I'm finding it hard to get around and meet people.

I agree the coaches are cool. However the whole MARTA in itself is far from modern, developed or convenient to use. Some European cities with a fraction of the metro Atlanta population have way more functional, clean, etc. systems. It's a shame
It’s definitely convenient to use Marta here in Atl. They provide buses for transportation all throughout the city and train routes that stem to North, South, East, and West Atl. Always beats traffic during busy hours too

The only solution to traffic is attractive public transit. The boomers in Gwinnett and Cobb can enjoy their two hour long commutes. Not everyone is 'crying' racism. That is the loud minority.

Like there are a lot of crazies and homeless folk that you see, even "able bodied millennials" begging for money." What about the arguments and fights and the ratchet behavior that goes on? Every Station is a work of art. Great network, I use to ride daily as a kid in Atlanta. All the way to the airport to do some plane spotting.

These trains actually use the Adtranz propulsion system which sounds really similar to the Bombardier MITRAC propulsion system.
