From Season 2, Episode 7 'Inflatable' - When Mike's hand is forced, he can no longer hide his frustration; Mike and Jimmy work together to keep the peace.

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Lol, Jimmy gets the job from hard recommendations by Howard and Kim, refuses the job in front of them, then gets it anyways, picks up his bonus, orders a 7000$ desk, damages the company's reputation with an unauthorized ad, and finally starts a campaign of being the worst worker ever just so he can keep his bonus. All in the space of a few months. That's Assholery any% speedrun.
Lmao
I always felt like the "damaging the company's reputation with an authorized ad" was overblown by Cliff. Sure Jimmy overstepped his boundaries, but you would have thought he gave another Chicago Sunroof by the way Cliff acted.

Come on. How could Jimmy do anything to build trust at all? His best resort is to get out of that shithole.
Since the partners sent a second year associate to supervise Jimmy this ugly result is already made. Those who decided to hire him of course must absorb the risk.
@@FrankACai Did you actually not pay attention. Jimmy was upon entry given a high enough rank that he was given assistant with 2 years experience to boss around.

@@JESUSLIVESAMEN I'm sorry but what? I didn't miss anything here. Jimmy had a supervisor. That's the big catch? The fact that the new employee had someone making sure they were off to a good start? When you get hired, especially for a good paying job of course you will have someone checking up on you. Jimmy was given every chance to make D and M work. It wasn't right for his character, so he quit. But you are getting the entirely wrong idea if you think that Jimmy was "forced out" or wasn't given a fair shot.

Always felt bad for Cliff here. Dude did not deserve to have Jimmy acting like an ass around his workplace
Cliff did nothing wrong
@TheOneTold a lot of people have a soft spot for Jimmy like you but cliff didn't deserve Jimmy being a *beep*. You can't make your own advert on your own for a lawfirm of 50 or so people without telling anyone. The reputation is at risk, built up over many years. The ad could have damaged the reputation of the firm and damaged the jobs of many people.
@@user-tj1dy8ze3f Man I agreed with you until you went and did that "Ur ComPrEhEnSiOn iS ToO LOW yOu NeEd TO HavE A HiGH Iq To UndErStAnd BEttEr CalL SaUL"
@TheOneTold The commercial defintely wasn't an overreaction. You don't just go off on your own in a big firm like that and approve ads when you're not even a partner. Cliff said it clearly. The Sandpiper case wasn't the one keeping the lights on in Davis & Maine. Jimmy took liberties that weren't his to take and could have seriously damaged the company's reputation in front of its stakeholders.
Cliff in fact went easy on him by not firing his ass despite having just cause.
He's a lawyer, he deserves it.
Most of Jimmy's suits aren't even that outrageous, like silver with a blue or green shirt or beige with an orange tie. It's just that he went for the most aggressive combo right off the bat with a salmon suit and bright blue shirt lol
that silver one is actually amazing
I like the salmon suit a lot actually, and I would wear that silver/green combo unironically.

To think he did all this to get fired, when all Id have to do is show up late TWO times
I believe he was specifically trying to get fired without cause, at least cause that would hold up in court. Not showing up on time repeatedly is objectively a fireable offense, but fashion sense in suits on the other hand most juries would not accept that. Ditto with playing an instrument, can't fire him for that when the partners play their own instruments.

Suits aren't cheap. Jimmy spent thousands in those suits.
I'm inspired to get some colorful shirts. Already have the ties that look like I threw up on them. LOL
If you consider the bonus he cept that way it was cost effective. Plus he used the suits later on as Saul.
The ones he bought were probably cheap to add to the look he was going for.
That silver one looks cheap as hell some polyester or what
@Adrian Vegas Basically when I was in Korea I was browsing a bazaar. There were all sorts of places selling ties; every time I expressed any interest in a tie, the shopkeeper would approach and tell me how good it looked on me. So I just decided to see how far he’d go - looked at the most hideous ties he had, and strangely they all “looked good on me.” I bought a couple just as gags, so his tactics must have worked!
I love that Jimmy bought and probably still owns a bagpipe for the express purpose of getting fired
I think i saw it in his mansion in 6x1
When i watched this i thought how funny it would be if him and cliff ended up in a stalemate for so long that jimmy genuinely learnt how to play the bagpipes
He probably just rented them

He pretty much had it all. Great job, very good pay, a chance to be partner of a firm who actually took a chance on him and appreciated him and saw his potential but he threw it all away for cheap, unfulfilling thrills that will see him rot in prison for the rest of his life.

It's funny when you first see this, but Jimmy ruined a good thing here. He finally got a job at a respectable law firm, his own office + secretary, and great pay. Working at this law firm for a while would have eventually gained his brother's respect for him that he changed from 'Slippin Jimmy', and he could have lived a good stable life with Kim. But Jimmy just had to do things his way, get fired to do what he wanted, and it eventually leads to his life in ruin and on the run.
Chuck would never have changed his personal and professional perception of Jimmy.
@@Anime_Lover_PHX_SAC_ABQ Chuck may be hesitant to change his mind, but I think even he would soften if Jimmy worked there for a few years without any issues.
Yeah Jimmy should've just made the commercial and showed them before pulling the trigger on advertising it. But cliff should've had more respect and not give Jimmy a babysitter.
Keep in mind when Chuck told Jimmy he wasn’t a real lawyer, it broke Jimmy. When Jimmy said “I am done” it wasn’t just him saying he’s done with Chuck, it was Jimmy cracking and slowly but surely becoming Saul. From that point forward began the transformation and without Chuck being the role model Jimmy always perceived him as, there were no holds barred.
Chuck would never change, not in time, he was a dying man and he hated jimmy for the rest of his life, and would continue to

It got some killer dance moves.
This scene is such a fun watch, but it serves such an important narrative purpose. A lot of Jimmy's story has him characterized as an underdog trying to garner a better life through becoming a lawyer and heading towards the straight path. With His brother attempting to stifle his influence/power, it's easy to think of Jimmy as a victim who isn't being given a fair shake after cleaning up his life. But this segment of the story gives him everything he thought he wanted. A stellar job with great pay, respect as a lawyer, and the trust and admiration of a mentor/surrogate for Chuck....But Jimmy ( and the audience) come to realize this isn't who he is, he would never be satisfied working within the rules of the legal system and under authority/as a team. In order for Jimmy to become Saul we had to know that he had what we all thought he wanted and walked away in the MOST Jimmy fashion ( couldn't even resign with dignity...he had to manipulate his boss through an elaborate charade so he could keep his severance pay) ... he just could not turn his back on his true nature which is a guy that loves to scheme, take short cuts, and outwit people while turning a profit. What a great show, I am gonna miss it so much. Jimmy/Saul/Gene is such an amazing character.
Edit: We think of him as a con man by trade, but he is actually a con-man by nature.
