2024 still listening to the greatest accordian player of all time greetings from bakersfield Calif. My brother played accordian RIP Candelario carrizales.
He was known for recording every instrument track by himself first and then teaching his musicians how he wanted it to sound! Amazing genious in his genre!
MASTER of accordion technique! Simply the best of the best! This man IS the creator of what we refer to as Tex-Mex music. Believe it, SJ is also an originator of Tejano as well. He will forever be in my top ten favorite singers of all time. A Mariachi who can sing the blues! R.I.P. Sir.
No se mucho Ingles pero a mi corto entender este senor es y sigue siendo Uno de los mas grandesas acordeonistas de todos Los tiempos , adelantado y sin respeto a sus tiempos ah! Y amigo de chich morita.!!
Talk about the greatest, If u wanna learn to b the greatest, watch and learn. practice and dont stop. cause this dude spent everyday doing that. His music will always live on in my heart.....
You are absolutely right! I knew the names of the other bands but unless they were playing at same venue I never heard their music. Los musicos I knew.
So much praise on here about this AWESOME musician , yet , while in San Antonio to vist my brother Art , we were music bar hopping . At one bar ,don't recall the name ,we walked in and there was Steve Jordan ! He only had a drmmer and a bass player , who was filling in the bajo sexto part also , on his bass! But the bar was empty except for a couple of guys drinking . It was my brother ,his wife ,our sister an me. Steve and his guys sounded great as usual and we had the floor to ourselves. But it was heartbreaking . To see this monster of an artist being ignored like this in a town like San Antonio.
I just mastered this song of his and by myself let's see when I'll post a video of my playing. Esteban jordan was my idol ever since I found Tejano music.
@@bobbycastaneda9091 for those of us who cant see the angels. It makes me ecstatic that he still comes to visit quite often. Thank you Dad for keeping me sane. lol
The first time that I heard him was on blues guitar and just blew me away. He then picked up the accordion and played blues like it happened been played before. Unquestionably the music master.
You guys need to Google - Steve Jordan and The Jordan Brothers. These kats were playing swing rock jazz back in the sixties before they played conjunto. Estevan is on guitar...Awesome! Also Google - Squeeze Box Man by Steve Jordan.
Can anybody tell if two lives, professional story lines of Esteban Jordan and Flaco Jimenez was somehow crossed each other, why Flaco is more popular, why people say no one liked Esteban , for what, what is the story of this two musicians do you know?
I've thought about this for years, and I came up with a a few reasons during this time. Flaco plays VERY simple, even by Conjunto/Tejano standards. Simple music is easier to digest and more relatable, as such it has a broader appeal. Versus El Parche playing very complex arrangements and often blending in different swings/grooves. Funk, jazz, "chicano music" as he put it, whatever else like phase shifters, echoplex, etc. I think that's a hard sell for Tejanos, because culturally speaking, Tejanos are conservative with their ways, and Steve always complained that "gente" (Tejanos) doesn't like any change. When your "home crowd" isn't supporting you like other people, then that kinda reinforces that idea he had. I remember I told myself I had to go see him at Salute Bar in San Antonio since he's getting old and he may not have longer. I remember walking there, opening the door, and being in disbelief that I was hearing jazz on accordion. Point is, at Salute, where he had a residency, there was about 3 or 4 people there to see him. After that show I saw, he died a few months later. Flaco also "crossed over" and starting doing covers of very popular English (white American) songs, as such it broadened his fan base and appeal by being more relatable. Tejanos also listened to the same songs too, so that was relatable even even for them too. I'm sure another thing that didn't help Steve was that he was very tight with his image/intellectual property. He didn't like/didn't allow people to record him, take pictures of him, or get his autograph! I remember him saying that he didn't allow/do those things because he thought everyone was trying to screw him over. How I took it, is he didn't want to get exploited over his intellectual property, whatever that might be. I don't know how he would be in today's world with Facebook Lives, smart phones, Instagram, etc. I remember there being a sign at Salute that cameras weren't allowed. You're kinda alienating people, especially people who like what you do, when you don't do stuff like that.
I bought almost all Esteban records, went to see him at Rosedale Park and Salute on St. Mary's street all the time.. where can I buy recording of this entire concert? incredible performance. as much as i loved every time I saw him, this is amazing performance with awesome band, please what is the source, and where can I get the whole thing???
Great performance! Does Jordan bring in a pre-recorded accordion part? The part is too long and complex to be some type of Frippertronic, tape looping, right? What is that device he turns down before stepping back to the mic?
Exactly. A loop machine. You see the bassist go over and trip it on, the accordionist plays 36 -or thereabouts- bars until the machine has recorded it and spits it back out in sync. He can then step away and the machine continues playing those 36 bars from memory. At the end, yes he's playing on top of his own playing. Nowadays that can just be recorded beforehand. But now it's mainly used for vocals (can you say Beyonce?)
Ramon ayala con la más corriente de sus canciones se chinga a cualquiera Pero no se desprecia a este señor Es excelente pero compararle sus éxitos con los éxitos de Ramon nunca
