  • Here is a video that touches on a lot of different aspects and issues with pop up spray heads for sprinkler systems. These types of sprinklers are very common and usually easy to fix. I will cover:
How to fix a spray head that is not spraying.
How to fix a leaking spray head.
How to replace a sprinkler head.
What are some different types of sprinkler heads?
How to adjust pop up spray heads.
    What are rotary spray heads?
    And some other helpful tips!
For a lush, green lawn, proper planning, installation, and maintenance of sprinkler heads are key. Thoughtful placement ensures your grass gets the right amount of water, avoiding both deserts and swamps. Proper installation prevents those annoying leaks and crooked heads. And remember, fixing leaks quickly is crucial-nobody likes a lawn that's better at filling the pool than the pool itself! Regular maintenance, like cleaning and adjusting heads, keeps everything running smoothly. With these efforts, you'll have a lawn that makes your neighbors green with envy.

Nice tip on tapping the nozzle to improve the spray pattern. Ive always just cleaned the ooening with a finger 👉 or a tool but didn't always have great results. Ill definitely try tapping it next time. Also, i like to carry locking wrench to hold the popup after the water 💧 is turned off. Great info on how to troubleshoot the sprinkler heads!

I have Toro spray heads that are male threaded. It seems difficult to find replacements here in Canada as most seem to be female. Any advice on how to upgrade them without going crazy. Looks like I will have replace whole spray body for compatibility.
Also if I need to replace the bodies could I use a larger radius to reduce the amount of spray bodies? My current ones are 8 to 10 ft apart.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

The price for the spray head (the whole thing) is minimal and personally, it’s worth upgrading to a new one. For a few dollars it’s a cheap investment. Once the body is upgraded you can replace the nozzles up to 18ft radius. But those use a lot more GPM (gallons per minute) and could affect the performance of the rest of the zone. You can upgrade to rotary nozzles, which can have a radius up to 24ft but you would need to replace all of the nozzles and possibly the heads (bodies) too. With rotary nozzles you have to double the time per zone because they put out about half the water.

What if the shaft is broken off?

If the shaft is broken , then you should replace it. But you can twist off the top of the sprinkler and leave the body. Replace it with the same sprinkler (same brand even). Simply screw the new one in place of the old one. Or if you have to replace the whole sprinkler, you’ll have to dig it up.
