I actually watched the entire series . . . not because I liked it . . . but because I knew it would be terrible. I was curious to see just how badly they could screw it up.
Each episode was a new low . . . and half way through it actually got exciting. 😉 What can they do this episode to make it even worse? How can they top the last debacle? And yet every episode they somehow delivered! 🤣
Zero desire to repeat the process for another season however.

Sadly I had no choice. I think there were a few good visuals (though very gamey), but the story, the dialogue and a narrative bereft of all logic… that was hard to get through. I think the worst part was how proud the showrunners were. “Improving Tolkien” and comparing their work with Shakespeare… God it’s hard to make something up that sounds more arrogant 😂
I guess season 2 will bring us more moments like that 💀

In addition to being unfair to people who have the experience yet are not hired, it’s actually also very unfair to the people who are put into positions for which they have no experience. Nobody will respect them, they will be very stressed out, the product will be very poor and probably nobody will hire those individuals again.
It also really stinks for the people working for the clueless person in charge.

Rings of powers was destined to fail. The lotr fandom has a lot of common with other old fandoms such as star wars or star trek. These fandoms take the lore and their universum seriously. Every detail will be analysed and one does not simply cash in on a legacy fanbase.
I think the final nail in the coffin of rings of power is that their product can't stand on its own. It is just a bad product and you can learn how to not write a TV show. That Amazon is even attempting to "make" a second season says something about them.

Firstly: All 16 rings were meant to go to the elves (300-500years world of infiltration & deception down to the drain) but Mairon of the Maiar(primordial angelic beings in simple terms as they are sort of beyond angels) disguised as a high elf named Annatar when he came to the elves pretending to be an emissary from Valinor on behalf of the Valar so it makes sense how alluring the ring is and how strong it’s pull on people is. (A bit too instant in the movies though) Galadriel soon saw right through him and especially when after speaking with him regarding not remembering him when in Valinor long ago where she learned from all the Valar thanks to being dominantly Vanyar/Teleri side over her Ñoldorin side where she gleaned from that encounter that she did not study under Aulë the Vala with any elf named Annatar ! But later named Sauron by the elves meaning deceiver! After all of this, The three elven rings were made in secret without Saurons touch upon them thanks to Celebrimbor! Remember Gandalf before he became Gandalf was the same species of entity Sauron used to be!! Wow hey? The Rings, in this case, would have lost their powers eventually due to the lack of the One Ring and possibly because they were designed to defeat evil, and evil, in the form of Sauron, had been defeated. The Three Elven Rings served their purpose for a long time. Two out of three of them had several different bearers Unlike the other Rings, the main purpose of the Three is to "heal and preserve", as when Galadriel used Nenya to preserve her realm of Lothlórien over long periods. The Elves made the Three Rings to try to halt the passage of time, or as Tolkien had Elrond say, "to preserve all things unstained". I can expand upon this based on any further statements & questions you have for me as a reply to this comment ! ❤
There is problem here with the Rings, the Three were supposed to be never touched by Sauron and that's why they were not corrupting…Sauron had not taken part in their making which made the Three more 'pure' unsullied by his dark power, unlike the Nine and Seven Rings! But Sauron in the show touched the very material they were made of!!! So technically he could have tainted them and corrupted!
Even appendices of Lot tell us the order of making the rings, so they didn't even need the righs to more detailed writings in UT or Silmarillion:
    1200
Sauron endeavours to seduce the Eldar. Gil-galad refuses to treat with him; but the smiths of Eregion are won over. The Númenoreans begin to make permanent havens.
    c. 1500
    The Elven-smiths instructed by
Sauron reach the height of their skill.
They begin the forging of the Rings of Power.
    c. 1590
The Three Rings are completed in Eregion.
    c. 1600
Sauron forges the One Ring in
Orodruin. He completes the Barad-dûr. Celebrimbor perceives the designs of Sauron.
    1693
War of the Elves & Sauron begins.
    The Three Rings are hidden."
'Did you not hear me, Gloin?' said Elrond. 'The Three were not made by Sauron, nor did he ever touch them.
But of them it is not permitted to speak. So much only in this hour of doubt I may now say. They are not idle. But they were not made as weapons of war or conquest: that is not their power. Those who made them did not desire strength or domination or hoarded wealth, but understanding, making, and healing, to preserve all things unstained.
These things the Elves of Middle-earth have in some measure gained, though with sorrow. But all that has been wrought by those who wield the Three will turn to their undoing, and their minds and hearts will become revealed to Sauron, if he regains the One."

I guess there are racists in all communities? I think a lot of criticism have falsely been labelled racism (both good and bad criticism). To claim all criticism is related to this is false, as House of the Dragon did something very similar, but was a huge success in comparison (on many parameters, btw).
I agree with you that suddenly these "experts" spring up out of nowhere claiming to defend the fandom, though they're in reality casual fans that just watched the films. (I even used a meme with Óin saying "He says he's an expert" among other Tolkien enthusiasts). Nerdrotic, Just some Guy and George the Giant slayer are probably the worst examples. Knights Watch tried not to comment on the lore and only did it vaguely. I must admit I shook my head a couple of times listening to them commenting on the lore (often wrong - especially in the minor details). There's also a couple of extreme leftish trying to argue the show was great (even superior to Lotr), but I haven't been able to make it through a video yet.
I'm impressed you liked Corey Olsen's coverage of the series. I tried watching a few of his videos, but I have never seen anyone grasping for straws that desperately. He even became a bit of a joke among some of the Tolkien channels, that had the same view on his stance. I think he was paid for it, so it's understandable he is willing to do all he can to portray it in a positive light - however it's not a very honest take. I don't have anything against him personally, but I think that kind of mentality is a weak character trait and I certainly won't silent the truth for a few pennies.
      Cheers!

@@anni.68 In what way did the show runners "ignore everything Tolkien wrote" you ask. Well...
      * The origin of mithril in RoP bears no resemblance to anything Tolkien wrote. The elves didn't need the light of the Silmarils to stay in Middle-earth, and Mithril had nothing to do with the Silmarils in anything Tolkien wrote anyway.
      * The forging of the 3 elven rings also bears no resemblance to what Tolkien wrote; they weren't forged before any of the others, Celebrimbor wasn't informed about the concept of alloys by Sauron, Sauron disguised as Halbrand wasn't introduced to Celebrimbor by Galadriel. Nor were they forged all together the way they were depicted in the show - and how did that work anyway? They used the same molten alloy mix to create the three rings, but one of them comes out a different colour, and therefore composition, than the other two?
      * The character of Galadriel bears no resemblance to anything Tolkien wrote. She wasn't the leader of the northern armies, or indeed any other army. She hadn't misplaced her husband. She wasn't pursuing Sauron for a thousand years, nor indeed any amount of time, on a revenge trip to avenge her dead brother. Her character in RoP was antithetical to the way she was portrayed in Tolkien's writing. Neither was she sent back to Valinor by Gil Galad, and she certainly didn't jump overboard from a ship as it came within sight of Valinor, to try and swim across an entire ocean, to meet by chance Sauron in disguise on a raft. That's the equivalent of jumping overboard a ship sailing to the USA when it comes in sight of the Statue of Liberty and trying to swim back to Liverpool in England. Tolkien never mentions her going to Numenor in the company of Sauron
      * The Numenorians didn't dislike the elves because the elves were taking their jobs; Tolkien was very clear on why that was. Isildur never had a sister, but did have a brother, missing from RoP. Nor was he a spoiled ineffectual generic teenager. Nor did she induce the Numenoreans to send an invasion army to see off the orcs in the Southlands. Tolkien wrote quite clearly when the Numenoreans did send forces to Middle Earth, why they did so, and at whose behest, and it wasn't Galadriel.
      * Mordor wasn't created in the Second Age, and it certainly wasn't created by someone sticking a broken sword key into a rock, to send a stream of water to blow up Orodrion. The whole Southlands in RoP was a pure invention by the RoP writers. Tolkien was very clear when and why Mordor was created; by Melkor in the Elder Days before even the First Age.
      * Tolkien wrote very clearly about how, when, and why Galdalf arrived in Middle Earth, and it wasn't in a meteor.
      * Tolkien never mentions Hobbits or Harfoots when writing about the Second Age beyond brief hints of them living in settlements near the Anduin.
... and those of just some of the ways the show runners ignored everything that Tolkien wrote.

Another one to note on the ainur having children:
"Melkor had corrupted many spirits -some great, as Sauron, or less so, as Balrogs. The least could have been primitive (and much more powerful and perilous) Orcs; but by practising when embodied procreation they would (cf. Melian) [become] more and more earthbound, unable to return to spirit-state (even demon-form), until released by death (killing), and they would dwindle in force. When released they would, of course, like Sauron, be ‘damned’: i.e.reduced to impotence, infinitely recessive: still hating but unable more and more to make it effective physically (or would not a very dwindled dead Orc-state be a poltergeist?)."

Gothmog was a child of sorts that he had with Ulbandi. The children of the other Valar were a result of their spiritual union, which may or may not even had any physical form of “sex”, at least not in the form we may imagine that word. Heck even in Valinor the elves hardly ever seen the Valar and the more likely ones were the Vanyar and any from the house or Finarfin.

If the rumours are true then it will be way worse than season 1, If anything Simon Tolkien is the one to blame, if Amazon finally got some rights to silmarillion, its very likely because of him as he is in charge of Tolkien estate now. I just think Simon really don't care about his grandfather's legacy, he did write books but they are not successful, a mediocre writer at best. He's been under the shadow of his grandfather for far too long. Too bad he shares same surname , and that name is lucrative that big corp like Amazon is willing to pay top dollar to get some rights, I guess he will milk it as long as he can while he is sill alive.

The secret flame is actually the Flame Imperishable and the only one to have contact with it is Eru Iluvatar.
It's doubtful that Sauron and Dwarves were friends or even acquaintances. They were for the most part immune to Sauron's wiles. It was the men who came under Sauron's domain, with the nine rings for mortal men.
As for Sauron having a child, I very much doubt it. After the War of Wrath Sauron was given the choice by Ëonwë to return and present himself to the Valar, because the Herald did not have the authority to forgive Sauron. Sauron then disappeared into the depths of Middle Earth instead. He was not seen or heard from until the Second Age when he appeared as Annatar at the fhe gates of Lindon. Gilgalad and Elrond mistrusted him and sent him away. He then went to Ost in Edhil, a city of Elves in Eregion. Where he then assisted Celebrimbor to create the rings. The three rings were created solely by Celebrimbor.

It makes zero sense and breaks the lore for them to call him Mithrandir, as that is a Sindarin (Grey Elf) word. The music of the Ainur was long before the awakening of the Elves (the Gods were still creating the world).
If this rumor is true, it just shows how little disregard the showrunners have for the source material. They can't even be bothered to do a little research.

    • @Makkaru112

Teleri are a sub group of Sindar. Sindar essentially are OG elves that touched divinity upon visiting Valinor then returning back to Middle Earth(GreatJourney), where several like Elwë was an ambassador along with his two other brothers Ingwë and Elwë. Highly close to the likes of Tata&Tatyë, Enel&Enelyë & Imin&Iminyë. But it is interesting how Finwë was also a close friend and actual brother of Elwë(Elu Thingol) but Finwë became(Ñoldor) meanwhile Ingwë was the greatest of all but was a Vanyar and brother to the previous 2! Meanwhile Elwë’s other brothers Olwë and Elmó etc were both Sindar like him. And Elmo had a child named Galadhon who was the father of Celeborn! Guess who that one married. Yes. Artanis/Nerwen AKA Galadriel as he named her! ❤
But one more thing about Elwë’s brothers being from other clans. I’d have to say they’d have to be some form of half brothers or back them the OG elves of the Cuiviènen and the region around that where the other elves awoke and gathered up by one of the three main groups of elves belonging to one of those to 3 brothers had to have been a bit more ambiguous with how that they were ancient beings/creatures and all…. Because they all eventually are related to eachother via different r get grapevines. It’s very similar within certain races and cultures around the world. It’s just like this with my Native American friends who literally have so many different internal cultures that result in unending inside jokes about this sort of thing where everyone’s your aunty, which shares similar note in Korean; both with the respect thing and closeness level calling someone older than you aunty all the time and hardly getting a chance to use their given name unless you’re super close to them. But also a bit of “we’re all related some way or another so I just call you aunty” haha.

Black elves in a tale that didn’t contain them (just to virtue signal). Tolkien was a well mannered reasonable chap but not prone to suffering fools. I feel sure that this whole disgusting enterprise could have been avoided if he'd just added something to his will to the effect that "no Americans should ever be allowed near my work". He lived long enough to see the early flourishing of vapid cheapness, sensationalism and stereotyped histrionics across the pond. IMO Jackson gets a pass - a well meaning Kiwi was up to the challenge - at least until he tried to stretch a slim simple charming children's story into an epic nine hour slog.
Tolkien deliberately chose to write Silmarillion as "disputed history/myth" not dramatic narrative. He also had the wisdom to abandon a brief attempt at a sequel to LOTR, reasoning that the story was told and the only way to contrive a grand struggle between good and evil was through the failings of mortals and moral decay.
if these rumours are true, it seems the silly Californians are planning to attempt foundation Middle Earth lore in the manner of a damn superhero story.

I don't understand defenders of Rings of Power. Especially "Tolkien fans" who say "Would you rather not have any Middle Earth shows?" I'm like "Yes. RoP is barely a Middle Earth show. It uses the names and labels. That's it. It's insulting." Most "fans" who like RoP have either only watched the movies and not bothered reading any books outside of LOTR and The Hobbit... or are schills looking for revenue and perks from Amazon.

    • @CounciloftheRings
      @CounciloftheRings  11 місяців тому

In my experience it’s also people that never understood the cosmology of Middle-earth or what Tolkien’s stories were actually about. They treat the world as any other fantasy and miss all the deeper layers beneath that makes it what it is.
Sadly a lot of modern people suffer from “presentism”, which clash with the spirit of what Tolkien wrote. Just look what Lindsey Weber said; “It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like,”. That’s the complete opposite of what you find in Tolkien’s works where there’s always a deep longing for the past. Something lost, that can never be regained. You only have to listen to the opening of the Fellowship of the Ring to get that; “Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.”
Anyway I’ll do a whole video on this.

    • @CounciloftheRings
      @CounciloftheRings  11 місяців тому +1

I wasn't actually talking about their race-insertion, but no I don't think Arondir fits in with his modern barbershop fade haircut. Elves have long hair in all cases we know about. He is a Sinda in the show, not one of the Avari (that live in the east, not the south as far as we know).
Black dwarves is pure wish-thinking, there's no evidence for it, but then one could argue that there's no statement about them all being white - however they're very clearly based on the Dwarves from Norse Mythology, so there's that.
No I was actually referring to the spirit of the series as a whole. It's full of "presentism" which a lot of modern people suffer from. They think they are wiser/ superior/ better than people in the past. Everything now is better/ smarter/ superior. They feel better than them - though for different reasons. This is also seen in dialogue like "the past is dead. We either move forward or we die with it." It's pure arrogance and the complete opposite of what Tolkien wrote throughout The Lord of the Rings. Some interpret this deep longing to be united with a greater past to be their desire to be "reunited with God (Eru)". I think this is an interesting way of seeing it that connects well with Tolkien's faith. A different aspect they completely neglected.
I'm not saying you can't like the show, you're free to do so, but it goes against everything Tolkien wrote and stood for. Simple as that.

@@anni.68 The fundamental problem with RoP was that the showrunners have shown they have little interest in accurately recreating Tolkien's written works, but to use the Middle Earth IP as a framework to write their own stories and ideas within. Which would be excusable if they didn't then change the story points, timelines and major character motivations and personalities.
Proof 1: Galadriel was with her husband during the Second Age, trying to establish a kingdom of her own in Middle Earth to rival Valinor. She didn't have a buddy adventure with Sauron.
Proof 2: Galadriel's motivation during the SA wasn't revenge on Sauron, but to make an alternate kingdom away from from the Valar and Valinor and be with her husband (who was never MIA).
Proof 3: The Harfoots were sociopaths in the show. Tolkien would've never written their lore that way.
Proof 4: The "they'll take our jobs" plot in Numenor. The men of Numenor were the greatest examples of mankind. They were tall and wise. It wasn't until they actively worshiped Morgoth that they began to diminish at the very end of the SA.
Proof 5: Character accuracy. Book Galadriel was 6 foot 4 inches tall. This was because she was a Noldor. The actress who plays her in RoP has to look up at everyone when she talks to them.
Female dwarves not having beards. Their skin color doesn't matter, but Tolkien was clear about females having beards.
Proof 6: The istari didn't arrive in Middle Earth until the beginning of the Third Age. This is very established by Tolkien.
Outside of those examples of have no interest in rehashing an argument on how inaccurate RpP is. There are articles and videos that go into detail about it.

Nothing to apologise for! It's just one of those fake Tolkien quotes that gets passed around a lot, especially by Nerdrotic and other large channels than don't care about checking their sources 😄It's far from the only one though. I have considered to do a "top 5 fake Tolkien quotes" or something like that, but it's not that interesting to be honest haha@@maoalexandros

I never dreamed of the day that some people have the guts to butcher Tolkien's beloved myth to advance their woke message.

Tom Bombadil and his wife should be played by Jack Black and Lizzo, like they did in The Mandalorian. 😂🤡

Dum and Dummer 2.0 they are even more stupid than those writers of Game of Thrones. On the occasion, they still made some good dialogue. But these guys oh this is so bad.

The state of film making in general is in a dire state a quarter of the way through the 21st century.
The 20th century on the other hand...well, _the proof is in the pudding._

Paraphrasing an unforgettable character from Chernobyl - TV series that is one of the best I've ever seen, in contrast to Rings of Power, which is one of the worst if not the worst...
"This series will not be accepted by the actual Tolkien fans. It never happened. It will remain so immaterial to the fans that when it finally does die, it will be exceedingly hard to know that it ever existed at all. So why worry about something that isn't going to happen?"
The life will go on, people will continue to read the books, they will still watch PJ's trilogy. Bezos' wannabe GOT project is just another activist mainstream film fart in the wind. Pardon my French.
